Following the running of Race 7, after significant showers passed through the vicinity of the racecourse, Stewards downgraded the track to a Heavy 10 at 3:20pm.

Race 1 - LADBROKES COX PLATE RACEDAY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD PLATE 1000 M

The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 mins, owing to SEJATA becoming fractious in the mounting yard and dislodging Apprentice A. Roper. Subsequently, Apprentice A. Roper was examined by the Official Club Doctor and cleared to fulfill her remaining riding engagements.

CELESTIALMESSENGER – Shifted in on jumping away. Raced greenly in the middle stages.

SEJATA – Over-raced in the early stages and when attempting to settle with cover leaving the 700m, had to be steadied off heels for a number of strides. Continued to race greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer’s representative H. Gregory was advised that SEJATA would be required to officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.

DIP WITH THE HIP – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 2 - LADBROKES TOTE WIN +10% IN OCTOBER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 2200

ZWEIG (IRE) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing at Doomben on Wednesday 21 October 2026 and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following today’s disappointing performance, Trainers representative J. Morris was advised that ZWEIG’s nominations for future metropolitan and provincial races would be refused until such time the gelding’s form improves to the requisite standard.

ARTFUL GIRL – On entering the home straight, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of EMPRESS ASPEN, which shifted out to improve. Jockey A. Jones the rider of EMPRESS ASPEN pleaded guilty and was charged pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding, the particulars being that leaving the 400m, she allowed her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of ARTFUL GIRL, resulting in Jockey R. Stewart having to take hold and lose his rightful running. Jockey A. Jone’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 24 October and concluding midnight 1 November 2026. Jockey A. Jones was advised of her right of appeal. Lost its near hind plate.

GALWAY FLYER – Trailed the field in the early stages and lost contact with the field in the middle stages. Retired out of the event at the top of the home straight. AMELIORATION – Began awkwardly.

EMPRESS ASPEN – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3 - LADBROKES WINX 2018 NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1300 M

BONDED AFFAIR – Raced three wide without cover in a leading position for the majority of the event. Apprentice E. Pozman was questioned regarding her riding tactics, particularly the decision to maintain a three-wide position whilst racing at a significant distance ahead of the remainder of the field. Apprentice Pozman explained that she was instructed to position the gelding forward without placing it under undue pressure, as BONDED AFFAIR had a tendency to over-race. She stated that passing the 1000m, she allowed her mount to improve three wide to the outside of MUSIC FEVER, anticipating that runner would continue forward to obtain the lead along the rail, which would afford BONDED AFFAIR the opportunity to settle outside the leader. However, when ANGARA improved to the inside of MUSIC FEVER, she was left racing three wide without cover. Apprentice Pozman further explained that leaving the 800m, she placed her mount under pressure in an attempt to improve forward and cross the runners to her inside but was unable to do so. She acknowledged that she was unaware of the significant margin the three leading runners had established over the remainder of the field. With the benefit of hindsight, she conceded that rather than continuing to pressure her mount in an attempt to obtain the lead, the preferable option would have been to restrain BONDED AFFAIR and endeavour to obtain cover. Co-trainer S. Kendrick confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice Pozman and agreed that, given the circumstances of the race, she should have attempted to restrain her mount rather than becoming involved in a sustained contest for the lead. Stewards advised Apprentice Pozman that, whilst acknowledging her relative inexperience, she had erred in her judgement by continuing to pressure BONDED AFFAIR when positioned three wide particularly given the significant margin the leading division had established over the remainder of the field. She was advised that, in similar circumstances, she would be expected to demonstrate greater awareness of the tempo of the race and exercise better judgement by considering alternative options to afford her mount the opportunity to finish the race competitively.

SMOKE ON THE WATER – On entering the home straight, shifted out to improve into clear running.

MUSIC FEVER – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Hampson reported that her mount was placed under significant pressure in the early and middle stages, with BONDED AFFAIR racing to her outside which in her opinion had a detrimental effect to its finishing efforts.

Prior to the running of this race, Stewards identified that the horse presented to the mounting yard as STREET CHASE was not the correct runner. Fouracre, and Assistant Starter C. Hurley.
