Following a track inspection stewards identified areas of concern where sections of the track were softer than the remainder of the track. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey T Chambers stated that she could offer no explanation to the performance other than the fact that after beginning only fairly from a wide barrier she was trapped wide and had to restrain to find a position closer to the rail, resulting in her mount getting further back than anticipated which proved detrimental to the finishing chances today.

NOBLE MASTER (NZ) – Carried wider near the 100m by GREYLIST resulting in LADY CONSORT being hampered.

Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 150m. Jockey R Silvera Olivera reported that he had dropped his whip near the 100m. Stewards inquired into the reasons for LADY MASQUERADE being presented to race without the declared pacifiers. It was established that trainer T Williams had errantly failed to request a gear change for the mare from its previous start on a dirt track, as it is common practice for him to apply pacifiers to LADY MASQURADE when racing on dirt surfaces. Stewards approved for the mare to race without pacifiers today as Mr Williams did not have any on course, nor did any other trainer. This was broadcasted by the on-course announcer. Mr Williams subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR227(a) for negligence in failing to request a gear change. Mr Williams was fined $200.

MISS TEAK – Slow to begin and impeded shortly after by LADY MASQUERADE. Laid inwards when placed under pressure. Jockey R Faehr reported that after his mount began only fairly it may have proved detrimental over the final stages. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance trainer L Horstman stated that she was pleasantly surprised with the run and that MISS TEAK had been working well in the lead up to today’s event. She further added that the mare may have appreciated the softer going today.

KOBE ROCKS (NZ) – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the performance apprentice G Semmens stated that the gelding being second up today and a step up in distance proved detrimental over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an insignificant abrasion to the left hind.
TRICKY BEANS – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance trainer T Williams stated that TRICKY BEANS had gained significant fitness from its previous runs and also the addition of a senior rider today proved beneficial in the geldings chances.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the right foreleg. Trainer G Bell was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
NASSAU COUNTY – When questioned in relation to electing to improve wide during the early and middle stages jockey R Faehr stated that when the pace had slackened his mount commenced to over race and he elected to allow his mount to travel where comfortable, however it was not his intention to establish such a lead during the middle stages. Stewards noted the comments.
LADY TOWNSON (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice J Bussuttin was reminded of her obligations to ensure she rides her mount out fully to the finish. When considering stewards were mindful that Ms Bussuttin’s actions did not compromise her mounts finishing position.
