GENERAL
After a track inspection by stewards at 11.30am the track was upgraded to a Good 4 reading.
Race 1: EMERALD ISUZU UTE Maiden Plate 1000M
READY LIGHTLY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
WOKEN BROKE – Began awkwardly. Hung out noticeably rounding the home turn and a warning was placed against the racing manners of the gelding.
ANGE – Began awkwardly. Laid in entering the home straight and bumped with SUNSHINE RUBY resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed swelling to both hocks. Trainer J Kuhn was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horses next start. Traner J Kuhn advised that she will be assessing the immediate racing future of the mare.
PARTY ISLAND – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.
SUNSHINE RUBY – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout. Bumped with ANGE entering the home straight and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: MILNE BROS EQUIPMENT Class B Handicap 1000M
WARHOL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BARRY’S GALAH – Briefly became fractious in the mounting yard resulting in rider N Summers taking a harmless fall before quickly remounting. Raced wide throughout.
EL QUINTO – Began awkwardly.
WAYFARER’S WAY – Began awkwardly.
SAY WHEN SUTTY – Apprentice T Orr was unable to claim his full allowance and was replaced by apprentice J L Devine. Apprentice Orr pleaded guilty to an associated charge under AR1434(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance and was fined $100.
Race 3: TJF MILK QTIS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1280M
BOYFRIEND MATERIAL – Began awkwardly and then raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.
STARHATTAN – When questioned regarding the improved performance jockey A Butler advised that he was of the view that a significant drop in class and being able to obtain a soft trailing run were the major contributing factors.
ZEQUEL – Beagan awkwardly. Jockey T Townsend advised that she was of the opinion that the gelding will derive fitness benefit from further racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MIMMY’S SECRET – Began awkwardly.
FINAL MISSION – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
IMPERIONESS – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages.
SHY REBEL – Crowded between runners on jumping and as a result was slow into stride. Eased from heels for a number of strides leaving the 700m.
Race 4: PIRTEK EMERALD OPEN Handicap 1280M
FINE SHOT – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
HEYINGTON STATION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TRICKEY BEANS – Jockey R Silvera Olivera dropped his whip in the home straight.
IMAGINE THAT – Apprentice J L Devine reported that the mare raced flat and in her view, had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
MAMARAGAN – Slow to begin. Improved wide during the middle stages.
MUSIC AWARD – Over raced during the middle stages.
Race 5: PRIME PLUMBING BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1615M
DIVINE COURAGE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
SHABOOH SHALAA – Slow to begin.
GREGARIOUS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding racing three wide throughout, apprentice M Mankelow explained that her mount raced keenly and as a consequence she was unable to restrain to obtain a position closer to the inside. Apprentice Mankelow further added that she did not elect to progress forward and apply pressure to her mount as she was mindful to attempt to conserve her mount in an attempt to allow it to finish the race in a competitive manner. Apprentice Mankelow also added that due to the work endured after racing wide her mount was unable to finish the race off as well as expected. Miss Mankelow informed stewards that she was of the view that her mount is better suited where races are run at a genuine tempo and over a further distance.
BRANDS – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer G Bell was at a loss to explain the geldings disappointing last start effort, other than the track conditions may not have suited.
