GENERAL
Following a track inspection the stewards upgraded the track to a soft 5 at 12:00pm.
RACE 1: CMF RURAL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
WOKEN BROKE – Made the bend awkwardly near the 500m.
PARTY ISLAND – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 700m. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
GEECEEDIAMOND – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with TWIN ISLAND (NZ). Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer D Rideout advised stewards that he would consult the connections regarding the mares immediate racing future.
STRAZ DANZ – Bumped on jumping with JACKYLLS DANSA. Shifted wider near the 500m to improve. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice S. Bailey was reminded of her obligations to ensure that she stops riding and straightens her mount in similar circumstances. Trainer J. Hancock was advised that a warning will be placed on the geldings record for hanging in.
SAINT ANNS – Began awkwardly and bumped with SMART COLOUR on jumping. Over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels on a number of occasions near the 800m.
TWIN ISLAND (NZ) – Bumped with GEECEEDIAMOND on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
RUN FREDA RUN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing for an extended period and was cleared to start. Fractious prior to the start and was a fraction slow to begin as a result. Laid in under pressure in the concluding stages.
SMART COLOUR – Bumped with SAINT ANNS on jumping. Had to momentarily ease shortly after the start when TWIN ISLAND (NZ) stepped out marginally. Put in an awkward stride near the 350m.
JACKYLLS DANSA – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with STRAZ DANZ. Raced wide throughout. Trainer J Hancock advised stewards that he would now likely send the filly for a spell.
RACE 2: FAT MAN SMALL MOTORS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1615M
BOSTON OF TUFFY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
FLOP TURN RIVER – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
ICONIC PRINCE – When questioned in relation to the performance, jockey A. Butler advised that his mount never travelled at any stage throughout the event and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. The rider further added that in his opinion, the gelding may be better suited to races over a shorter distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SHY REBEL – Had to shift out and check away from ROY’S ROAD near the 1000m when that runner shifted outwards. Apprentice N. Olzard was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for carelessly shifting out resulting in SHY REBEL having to be checked.
ROY'S ROAD – Shifted in and contacted the running rail racing around the first turn. Apprentice N. Olzard reported her mount raced ungenerously during the middle stages and near the 1000m had to shift out across the heels of LOVEZELADYS and as a result SHY REBEL had to check out and away from that runner.
FLYBALL – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
TERMITE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst being restrained upon entering the course proper.
LOVEZELADYS – Jockey E. Bell reported her mount raced keenly in the early stages so therefore she elected to progress forward in an attempt to get the rig to settle.
RACE 3: CORNERSTONE RISK GROUP OPEN HANDICAP 1615M
TRICKY BEANS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice J. Devine was reprimanded under AR 132(7)(a)(i) for using her whip on 3 consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
THREE GONGS – Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. Soon after joining the course proper, near the 1500m had to restrained from the heels of BRANDS when commencing to over race. Trainer G. Teal was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for standing flat-footed at the start.
PACKAGE – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
BRANDS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
GENERAL WOLFFE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the performance, jockey T Chambers advised the gelding may not have handled today’s track conditions and further added that GENERAL WOLFFE may have got its tongue over the bit during the run and therefore recommended gear changes to trainer M Stephens.
RACE 4: FARM & CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS CLASS 6 PLATE 1000M
FINE SHOT – It was noted that shortly after the start, apprentice G. Semmens, adjusted her near side iron. Over raced in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
JUST SUPER – Trainer G. Bell was fined $100 under AR106(1) for presenting the gelding to the mounting yard whilst not wearing blinkers which was on the geldings declared gear.
PALAZZO SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and hung in throughout. Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight and bumped with JUST SUPER near the 200m Trainer P. O’Toole was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for hanging in throughout the event.
DELUXE LEGEND – Raced wide in the early stages.
I SAY BOOM – Raced wide throughout.
TOKYO SINS – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Hung in under pressure in the home straight and made contact with the running rail near the 200m. When questioned in relation to the vigour shown over the concluding stages, apprentice J Devine stated that the mares tendency to hang in whilst under pressure made it difficult to fully test her mount, she further added that she was mindful of improving onto the heels of PRETTY SLICK over the final stages. Considering the explanation stewards could not be satisfied that Ms Devine’s actions reached a degree of culpability to issue a charge however was reminded of her obligation to ensure she ride her mount out with sufficient vigour to the finish.
GROWL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned in regard to obtaining a position closer to the lead in comparison to the geldings most recent starts, jockey E. Bell stated that GROWL had began quicker than anticipated and had a tendency to race keenly, as a result she elected to allow her mount to improve and travel where comfortable.
OUTBACK RINGER – Began awkwardly.
RACE 5: AB POWER CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200M
PEACEFUL PRINCE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing for an extended period and was cleared to start. Raced in restricted room over the final strides.
BAILE FERVOR – Bumped heavily on jumping with DEN END. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
GUNBOAT – Began awkwardly and bumped with MONDAY CHOICE. Shifted wider near the 400m in an attempt to improve. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PRESSZORA – Began awkwardly.
DEN END – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with BAILE FERVOR.
HI FRANK – Began awkwardly and bumped with MONDAY CHOICE. Raced wide throughout. Switched out across the heels of GUNBOAT at a point near the 100m when that runner laid in.
MONDAY CHOICE – Bumped with HI FRANK and GUNBOAT on jumping. Hung out rounding the home turn. Leaving the 100m, when inclined to lay in, improved and became awkwardly placed on the heels of BAILE FERVOR and had to be checked for a number of strides.
AZURE DE LAGO – Over raced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the left fore-leg. Trainer J O’Sing was advised that AZURE DE LAGO would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
RACE 6: MARABOON TAVERN BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000 M
FREDDIE EDDIE – Began awkwardly. Held up in the home straight until shifting outwards near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
DISCOVERED GOLD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
IMMORTAL LASS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing on the 20th of September and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and bumped with KAYTEE WISDOM.
TENNER – Slow to begin. In the early part of the home straight shifted out under pressure, resulting in OUR HEART THROB being inconvenienced for a number of strides.
IMPERIONESS – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide throughout.
WARHOL – Raced wide throughout.
KAYTEE WISDOM – Bumped on jumping with IMMORTAL LASS. Raced wide throughout.
TOO MANY KISSES – Fractious prior to the start. Raced wide throughout.
BARRY'S GALAH – Raced wide throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
BRISKET – Fractious prior to the start.
OUR HEART THROB – Trainer T. Cook was fined $100, under AR106(1) for presenting OUR HEART THROB to the mounting yard wearing blinkers which were not on its declared gear. Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced for a number of strides near the 250m when TENNER shifted out under pressure. Apprentice, G. Semmens, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear. Inclined to lay inwards over the concluding stages.
RACE 7: FAIRBAIRN BAKERY CLASS 4 PLATE 1280M
ACEDROD – Raced keenly in the early stages.
DARK GLEAM – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey W Satherley stated that he could not offer any explanation, however added that DARK GLEAM would derive fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery.
SCHMOOZER – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with DEEP FURY. Shifted wider near the 350m in an attempt to improve.
ALL ENGLAND – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
BOYFRIEND MATERIAL – Stewards were advised following the event, by jockey E. Bell that the tongue tie had become loose enroute to the barriers however was unable to be re-fitted by the barrier staff.
CANNY BE BETTER – When questioned in relation to the performance trainer S. Green stated that she was at a loss to explain the poor performance and given an undertaking to advise stewards should anything were to arise in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DEEP FURY – Bumped on jumping by SCHMOOZER. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
JUST FRANK – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice T. Orr was reminded of his obligation to ensure does not persist with his whip when out of contention.
ODEGAARD – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 950m briefly raced in restricted room and momentarily had to steady.
MARTINI MOMENT – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
