STEWARDS REPORT

EMERALD JOCKEY CLUB
SATURDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2025

WEATHER – Fine
TRACK RATING –  Good 4
RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – Shane Larkins
Stewards – Ethan Suli, Hayden Gillett & Gary Wust

GENERAL

Due to the forecast temperature, stewards implemented measures in accordance with the Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat Policy.

Following a track inspection conducted by stewards at 11:30am, the track was upgraded to a GOOD 4.

RACE 1: ROBERT BELL MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (1000 M)

I'M NUMBER ONE – Blundered soon after the start.

PRIDE OF ICE – After refusing to load, was declared a late scratching at 1:55pm by order of stewards. Prior to the declaration on correct weight, stewards ordered that all bets placed on PRIDE OF ICE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers:

32 cents in the dollar for the winner (WORKSMEUP)
27 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner
27 cents in the dollar for 2nd place (MARRERO)

Trainer Patrick O’Toole was advised that PRIDE OF ICE would be required to trial on two (2) consecutive occasions to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Trainer O’Toole stated to stewards that the immediate racing future of the gelding would be considered within his stable.

STELLAR LEGEND – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly.

MARRERO – Began awkwardly and as a result was marginally slow to begin. Made the bend entering the home straight awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

WORKSMEUP – Began awkwardly. Laid outwards and raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 2: EAGLESHAMS MENSWEAR BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1615 M)

BOYFRIEND MATERIAL – Began awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

GUNBOAT – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow to begin.

CALYX ROSE – Slow to begin. Jockey Warwick Satherley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for applying his whip 3 consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.

SHY REBEL – Inclined to lay inwards during the early stages of the home straight.

HOT SUMMER – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

OUTBACK STEP – Commenced to over-race in the early and middle stages.

FIELD MASTER – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Pulled hard during the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the middle stages. Tired noticeably over the final 350m to be beaten 25 lengths. Jockey John Rudd stated to stewards that with the addition of winkers for the first time in today’s event, FIELD MASTER over-raced significantly which ultimately proved detrimental to its competitive chances. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative was advised that FIELD MASTER would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start.

ROY'S ROAD – Raced wide throughout.

RACE 3: LOWES PETROLEUM BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1200 M)

Following this race, stewards reminded the starter of his obligations to ensure that all runners are loaded in their correct order, unless permission from stewards is granted.

ALL VALOUR – Began awkwardly and knuckled shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.

OUR MISSILE – Briefly tightened for room near the 100m when I’M STELLAR shifted inwards under pressure.

HOLY CROWN – Approaching the 700m, improved onto the heels of OUR MISSLE before being directed to the outside of that runner into a tight run to the inside of TWIN ISLAND (NZ), resulting in HOLY CROWN racing in restricted room for some distance, having to be steadied by its rider. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Natalea Summers became unbalanced close to the finish, which resulted in her being unable to ride her mount out fully to the finish line. In not taking action against jockey Summers, stewards were mindful that her actions did not result in her mount finishing in a lesser position.

I'M STELLAR – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer Jenny Bell was advised that a further warning would be placed on I’M STELLAR’s record. Shifted inwards when placed under pressure approaching the 100m and as a result, OUR MISSLE was briefly tightened for room. Jockey Emma Bell was reminded of her obligations in keeping her mounts on a straight course over the final stages when under pressure.

HVARDANCE – Slow to begin.

TWIN ISLAND (NZ) – Briefly tightened for room near the 700m when FANCY LEGEND shifted inwards before being corrected by its rider.

EMERALD JOY – Was reluctant to load. Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride and then trailed the field throughout. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey Chris McIver stated that EMERALD JOY became awkward in its action in the middle stages and elected to not place the filly under any further pressure. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed minor heat stress. Trainer Glenda Bell stated that EMREALD JOY would be sent for a spell, however stewards advised Trainer Bell that EMERALD JOY would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

FANCY LEGEND – Shifted inwards marginally near the 700m before being immediately corrected by its rider, and as a consequence TWIN ISLAND (NZ) was briefly tightened for room.

RACE 4: QUARRIES OF QUEENSLAND QTIS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M

Correct weight was delayed when a protest was lodged by apprentice Gabrielle Semmens, the rider of fourth placed MOTION LEGEND, against the winner (JUKEBOX LUCY, ridden by jockey Emma Bell) and second placegetter (REBELIOUS RED, ridden by jockey Warwick Satherley), alleging interference over the final 100m. After considering the statements from all riders involved, trainers/ trainer’s representative and viewing the available replays, stewards determined that near the 100m, JUKEBOX LUCY shifted inwards when under pressure before being corrected by its rider, whilst at the same time, REBELIOUS RED had shifted outwards under pressure before also being corrected by its rider. As a result of the shifts by both of these runners, MOTION LEGEND was impeded for a short distance. In close proximity to the finish line, REBELIOUS RED again shifted outwards under pressure, and as a result MOTION LEGEND became awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner when reaching the finish line. Stewards could not be satisfied that the degree of interference suffered to MOTION LEGEND in both of these incidents warranted reversing any placings, particularly considering the degree of interference and the margin between the runners at the finish, therefore the protests were dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings. Jockeys’ Satherley and Bell were both reminded in the strongest terms of their obligations to ensure their mounts maintain a straight course. Apprentice Semmens was also strongly admonished for the language in which she used when crossing the finish line.

GROWL – Raced wide throughout.

MOTION LEGEND – Was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn. Was impeded for a clear run briefly near the 100m and again very closely to the finish line.

JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) – Bounded on jumping and as a result was slow to begin. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

TOKYO SINS – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until a point near the 150m.

INREADYNESS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

REBELIOUS RED – Began awkwardly. Inclined to shift outwards when placed under pressure on occasions in the home straight.

SALT LAKE BETTY – Began awkwardly.
