GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 7: Rider C. Taylor +1kg (56kg)
Prior to race 1, the Judge advised Stewards that there was a malfunction with the official photo finish equipment. After attempting to remedy the issue, it was determined that the equipment would not be able to be used at the meeting. Stewards decided that the Judge would be assisted on all races by a QRIC Steward and a video camera was positioned on the finish line, along with the official race day footage, to assist the Judge in the determination of placing’s as per the provisions of AR214(2).
SIMPLY TINA was declared a late scratching at 10:40am after becoming fractious on the float prior to coming to the races, in the process sustaining minor injuries to its rump and withers. Trainer K. O’Neill was advised SIMPLY TINA will need to obtain a veterinarian certificate prior to racing again. LIPSTICK LIES, which was also on the float at the time of the incident, was also declared a late scratching at 10:40am after trainer K. O’Neill advised the mare had become distressed following the incident.
As rider G. Geran was absent and unable to take his ride on SCION in Race 6, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary. Rider G. Geran was reprimanded pursuant to AR127(1) for failing to fulfil a riding engagement. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account his excellent record under this rule and the extenuating circumstances which resulted in him arriving late on course.
RACE 1: KRUGER FENCING AND STOCKYARDS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (800 METRES)
The start of this race was delayed by approximately 12 minutes while attempts were being made to remedy the malfunction of the official photo finish equipment.
Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice K. Lenton, rider of second placegetter GOOSE STEP, to view the Stewards footage to establish if there were grounds for a protest. After viewing the footage K. Lenton declined to lodge an objection and Stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.
I AM A WINNER – Raced three-wide throughout without cover.
QICKWIT – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BARBRA – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
PEE DEE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
BLUE EYE DAME – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
MISS WATERLINE – Began awkwardly.
SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 2: THE AINSWORTH'S 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1200 METRES)
AUSSIE ADAPTOR – Slow to begin. Checked near the 500m when THEIF BY NIGHT momentarily shifted in whilst racing ungenerously.
BLACK ’N’ DEADLY – Near the 800m was momentarily steadied when BABALOLA shifted in when not fully clear. W. O’Connell the rider of BABALOLA was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Inconvenienced on entering the home straight when the riderless MISHANI GLAZE shifted out.
THIEF BY NIGHT – Over-raced for the majority of the event. Near the 500m, bumped with AUSSIE ADAPTOR and FAR CRY when racing ungenerously. Trainer R. Hilton was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its racing manners.
BABALOLA – Leaving the 400m was restrained when tightened for room by the riderless MISHANI GLAZE which shifted in.
MISHANI GLAZE – Stumbled shortly after jumping and dislodged its rider. Apprentice C. Lowe was assessed by QAS and cleared of any injury. The riderless MISHANI GLAZE, after completing the course, attempted to jump the exterior rail and landed heavily on its side. After a veterinary examination, the filly was found to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer D. Stanbridge was notified that in accordance with AR79(4), MISHANI GLAZE shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
RACE 3: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL BM55 Handicap (1200 METRES)
DUKE OF LANCASTER – Slow to begin
SKY BLUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground
THE MANIPULATOR – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI STELLER – Raced three-wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 4: TYNNE MACARTNEY OPEN Plate (1200 METRES)
UNDER THE LIMIT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
MR WANDJI – Over-raced in the middle stages. Leaving the 1000m bumped with SUPER QUICK on several occasions when racing in restricted room to the inside of WARILLA GORILLA.
SUPER QUICK – Leaving the 1000m when over-racing, bumped with MR WANJI on several occasions and became unbalanced.
MIDNIGHT MIRACLE – Slow to begin. Rider N. Thomas reported that his mount was not suited to the step up in grade.
RACE 5: NOEL BROWN PLUMBING QTIS Maiden Plate (1460 METRES)
HURRICANE HANK – Apprentice I. Jessop reported her mount was inclined to lay in throughout the event.
SAVEA – Approaching the 200m improved onto the heels of UP OVER’N GONE and had to steadied before shifting out and being steadied from the heels of ENDLESS ELLIEGANCE.
TOGETHERWE CONQUER – Rider R. O’Sullivan reported his mount failed to respond to his urgings on entering the home straight and felt that his mount had come to the end of its preparation.
UP OVER’N GONE – Passing the 200m shifted in when struck with the whip and had to be steadied from the heels of MISTEMBA.
BOLD BEAUTY – Tailed off throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near-fore. Trainer B. Davis was advised BOLD BEAUTY will need to obtain a veterinarian certificate prior to racing again.
CAIRO QUEEN – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
ENDLESS ELLIEGANCE – Apprentice K. Johnston reported her mount raced greenly in the early stages.
BETTER GO TORQUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 1200m was inconvenienced when racing between SAVEA and BOLD BEAUTY which had commenced to weaken rapidly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 6: Australia wide Floor Covering QTIS Maiden Plate (1460 METRES)
SCION – Rounding the home turn, bumped and became awkwardly balanced when BILLILICIOUS (Apprentice A. McColm) attempted a tight run to its inside. Apprentice A. McColm was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Momentarily steadied near the 150m when BILLILICIOUS shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
TRANGO TOWERS – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early stages.
CHIMBORAZO – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Apprentice V. Soulsby was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(c) for using the whip when out of contention.
LAKE OF FIRE – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
READY TO BOIL – Slow to begin.
NUZANA – Tailed off from the 1000m and finished a significant distance behind the rest of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a heart murmur. Trainer B. Davis was advised NUZANA would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance inclusive of an echocardiogram prior to racing again. Trainer B. Davis advised it would likely be the intention to retire the filly after todays performance.
RACE 7: BRISBANE VALLEY ROASTERS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1460 METRES)
KAREEM – Held up rounding the home turn until entering the home straight.
BOTANICA – Rider K. Yoshida reported his mount jumped awkwardly and he lost the use of his near stirrup iron for a short distance after the start.
DOLLY DISCO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
UNIQUE ELLE – Slow to begin. Placed awkwardly on heels rounding the home turn.
