General:
FAST ANNIE, PERFECT RAINBOW, ZATSACAT, NAIL ‘EM and ASTRONAUT which all competed at yesterday’s Ewan meeting were inspected by the club’s veterinary officer and passed fit to race.
Riding Changes:
When jockey D Evans was indisposed due to illness, steward’s permitted the following changes as per the summary. Jockey D Evans was told that he must furnish a medical certificate.
Race 1: Rotary Sunrise Benchmark 60 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – SERGEANT SHRIVER 2nd – SHADOWS OF SIN 3rd – PERFECT RAINBOW 4th – ROSE OF CLARE
MONDUKE – Was slow to begin.
KISS ME QUICK – Wide throughout.
FAST ANNIE – Raced ungenerously throughout the middle stages and had to be continually steadied away from the heels of runners in front.
Race 2: Stockyard Maiden Plate 1200 metres:
1st – MADEMOISELLE ZARIZ 2nd – JOHNNY FIX IT 3rd – ZEDAHEEL 4th – OLD RED
PRIME SEQUAL – Slow to begin.
ZEDAHEEL – Began awkwardly.
Race 3: Ewan Memorial Shield Benchmark 74 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – ARCATRAN 2nd – EXCELLENT STYLE 3rd – ZATSACAT 4th – REGENCY ROYALE
DASH OF BLACK – Due to no phone coverage in the Ewan area stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer R Nelson regarding the late scratching of the gelding.
EXCELLENT STYLE – Shifted in abruptly at the start.
REGENCY ROYALE – Was slow to begin.
ARCATRAN – Began awkwardly. Rounding the home turn was carried wider on the track by another runner then had to be shifted back to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running.
BOLT FROM THE BLUE – Rounding the home turn was carried wider on the track by another runner. Passing the 100 metres was momentarily inconvenienced.
Race 4: George And Lorraine Colburn QTIS Added Stakes Class 2 Handicap 1300 metres:
1st – OUR HUSSLER 2nd – MANDALONG PASS 3rd – ROCKET BILLY REBEL 4th – LOG CABIN
NAIL ‘EM – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer C Hurle for the late declaration of R Graham as the rider. Rounding the home turn was momentarily hampered while racing tight to the inside of another runner.
MALIBU ROSE – Began awkwardly.
RED BOHEMIA – Was slow to begin.
MANDALONG PASS – Stewards questioned Apprentice N Nelson regarding her riding from the 500 metres where the eventual winner was able to improve to her inside. Apprentice N Nelson stated that her mount was inclined to lay out rounding the tight turning track however concurred with stewards that she should have made a greater effort to remain racing one off the fence. Stewards were also mindful of Apprentice N Nelson’s relative inexperience.
Race 5: Landmark Ewan Cup Benchmark 72 1600 metres:
1st – GODDESS OF LUCK 2nd – SAN RAYMOND 3rd – MAY NELLY 4th – CRAIGLEA FOCUS
SAN RAYMOND – Was slow to begin.
GODDESS OF LUCK – Was slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA FOCUS – Jockey S Wilson reported following the race that he sustained an injury to his right foot after the mare began awkwardly.
