LOST LAMB – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure over the final 100 metres.
SHE’S A SWEET STAR – Slow into stride. Shortly after the start, raced ungenerously and attempted to buck for a distance, losing ground. Dipped nearing 400 metres. Trainer Terry McGovern was advised that SHE’S A SWEET STAR must trial or jumpout to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
Race 2: INCITEC PIVOT RATINGS BAND 0-55 Handicap 1300M
FALLGUY – Hung out for the majority of the race. Shifted out under pressure and bumped SILENT ANGEL approaching the 150 metres. When questioned regarding the horse’s racing manners, rider Chris Meehan stated that FALLGUY, having its first race start for new Trainer Tom Button, had several pieces of gear removed leading into today’s event and hung out despite his efforts to straighten the gelding over the concluding stages. Rider Meehan expressed the view that in his opinion, FALLGUY may be better suited with some of the removed gear from today’s event being re-applied. Trainer Tom Button was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners, and he was advised of Rider Meehan’s comments.
VANCOUVER BAY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
STARMEIRA – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Failed to muster speed in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, rider Isabella Teh advised that STARMEIRA began awkwardly then received kickback which it resented, resulting in STARMEIRA settling further back than intended. She advised that STARMEIRA had run home well. Explanation was noted.
SILENT ANGEL – Bumped leaving the 150 metres by FALLGUY which shifted out under pressure.
THE EIGHTH I AM – Raced wide without cover throughout. KING’S CASTLE (FR) – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear racing room nearing 200 metres. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted in today’s event, rider Wanderson D’Avila stated that KING’S CASTLE was outpaced in the early stages and settled rearward as usual to its racing pattern. Rider D’Avila advised that when the gelding started to lose touch with the field from the 1400 metres, he elected to ride the horse hands and heels at that point, to which gelding did not respond immediately. Rider D’Avila added that KING’S CASTLE began to pick up the bit passing the 600 metres and when asked to improve, commenced to run home fairly. Stewards noted the explanation.
