ICE ELITE – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice J Cornish advised that her instructions were to ensure that the gelding jumped well however after being slow to begin, she settled in a position further back that anticipated. She added that approaching the 500m when she endeavoured to obtain a position racing to the inside of KIRASOVA, the gelding was not travelling well enough to improve into that position. She further added that rounding the home turn she was held up when her mount was unable to improve at that point and when the gelding obtained clear running in the home straight it finished the race off well. App J Cornish was advised that in hindsight the preferable option would have been to improve to the outside of the heels of KIRASOVA, as to afford her mount clear and uninterrupted running.

Rider T Brooker was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a)) in that near the 600m she permitted her mount to shift out when not clear of MYSTERY ROAD, causing that runner to be taken out onto the heels of QWICK, resulting in it clipping heels and blundering. T Brooker’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence midnight 3/7/21 and to expire at midnight 14/7/21. In considering penalty, stewards were mindful  that the carelessness was determined to be in the medium range and that there was a minor shift from QWICK.
