ANTONIO- When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance, App. W Peel advised that the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise throughout the event which she felt was the major contributing factor to the poor performance. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer D Reynolds expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding and would now monitor the manner in which it recovers from today’s event before deciding whether to proceed with the gelding’s current preparation.

The start was delayed when FLASH GURU broke through the barriers galloping a short distance before being restrained. Upon returning to the barriers the gelding was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by App M Wishart the rider of the 2nd placed HOKE’S RUN against FLASH GURU being declared the winner alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that whilst FLASH GURU did lay out under pressure in the home straight resulting in HOKE’S RUN being taken slightly wider on the track, they were not satisfied that the interference suffered to HOKE’S RUN exceeded the ¾ length margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges semaphored numbers.

Race 5: HARMAN CONCRETE Class 4 Handicap 1400 metres

SEA ECHO- When questioned in relation to the below market expectation performance Jockey B Andrew advised that as a result of racing in a rearward position she was forced to make a long sustained run on the gelding to improve into the race. Jockey Andrew added that the gelding peaked on its run early in the straight and ran on only fairly. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a level of mucus in the horses trachea. Therefore Trainer B Andrew was advised he will be required to obtain a Veterinary Certificate including the results of a endoscopic examination prior to next racing.

SECRET CONQUEST- After beginning well settled further forward than anticipated. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer S Field advised that he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of mare last start when racing first up from a significant spell on that occasion. He added with the benefit of race fitness and the engagement of a senior rider he had expected a forward showing from the mare in today’s event.

RUBY RUSH- Raced wide without cover for the majority.

Race 6: BOWES ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1400 metres

GREY NOISE- Blundered on jumping. Hung out rounding near the 1100m.

Trainer C Saunders was advised that as this was the 2nd occasions on which the gelding had bled it would now receive a life ban from racing.

Stewards will inquire into the reasons for App. J Molloy failing to fulfill his engagement as the rider of COSSIE at a later date as App Molloy had left the track. Subsequently App M Savva was the replacement rider for the horse.

Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight Stewards reviewed the start to determine if CHEESIE and SPLASHING ROSSA had been afforded a fair start. After reviewing the patrol footage it was determined that the barriers of CHEESIE and SPLASHING ROSSA were slow to open and therefore denied both runners a fair start. As a consequence Stewards acceded to requests from the connections of both runners to be declared non runners on the basis of being denied a fair start.

Upon the declaration of Correct Weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CHEESIE and SPLASHING ROSSA be refunded with the following deductions to apply-

1st- 7 cents the win, 7 cents the place
2nd- 8 cents the place
3rd- 10 cents the place.

Stewards further considered whether ENTERPRISE ELECTRA whose barrier was slightly slow to open was denied a fair start. Having reviewed the footage, Stewards were satisfied that ENTERPRISE ELECTRA was not impeded to any tangible degree to warrant being denied a fair start and therefore no further action was taken.

COSSIE- Began awkwardly.

DREAM WEAVING- Blundered on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.

FOXY RIPPA- Stuck heavily by the rebounding barrier gate on jumping.
