Race 1: 1 REDMOND PRODUCE GATTON Maiden Handicap 860 metres

Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to determine if HELEN’S DREAM was afforded a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing submissions from starter Mr K Watson, trainer Mr T Lambourn and rider M Wishart, Stewards were of the opinion HELEN’S DREAM had turned its head to an adjoining stall prior to the start being effected and as such was declared a non-runner, with the following deductions to apply:

1st MY MOSES – 11c win, 17c place
2nd INVANESS – 11c place
3rd GOLDEN GGROOVE – 6c place

GUTHO – Slow to begin. Rider L Barr reported the horse was inclined to race greenly throughout the event.

SLEEPDANCE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

JOHNNY DEEP – Jumped out at the start and bumped INVANESS.

CHILLI MOMENT – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MAX'S SOURCE – Jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.

HOT OR NOT – Approaching the 100m tightened for room when weakening to the inside of BECAUSE THE NIGHT which shifted in marginally.

Race 4: NOLANS TRANSPORT GATTON BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 860 metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight L Tilley, rider of 3rd past the post I AM FEARLESS, viewed the patrol footage before lodging a protest against 2nd past the post MISHANI MISTRESS alleging interference passing the 100m. After hearing submissions from connections of both runners and viewing available footage Stewards found that passing the 100m MISHANI MISTRESS shifted in under pressure resulting in I AM FEARLESS being taken inwards onto SHEEZASINGA and having to be checked. Bearing in mind where the incident took place and the one length margin between both horses at the finish the protest was dismissed, and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings.

SHEEZASINGA – Checked passing the 100m. At a subsequent inquiry M Savva, rider of MISHANI MISTRESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she made insufficient effort to prevent MISHANI MISTRESS shifting in resulting in I AM FEARLESS being taken inwards and having to be checked, which as a consequence resulted in SHEEZASINGA also having to be checked. The licence of M Savva to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence on midnight 6th January 2023 up to and inclusive of 17th January 2023, being free to resume riding in races on Wednesday 18th January. Jockey M Sava was advised of her right to internal review.

I AM FEARLESS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Over-raced in the early stages and near the 650m shifted out abruptly after rider L Tilley had difficulty restraining the horse. Checked approaching the winning post. Trainer G Richardson was advised I AM FEARLESS must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Richardson advised going forward he would be making gear adjustments to I AM FEARLESS.

EXPECT A HERO – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 50m.

Race 6: TRADIES RACEDAY SATURDAY 21 JANUARY RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres

The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when the bridle on SLY CORNER needed to be replaced.

SLY CORNER – On arrival at the barriers the bridle on the horse was replaced. Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running between the 150m until approaching the winning post. When asked to comment on tactics adopted particularly near the 400m when SLY CORNER shifted to the inside, rider A Thompson stated at that point of the race, when trailing MISHANI PHAROAH, he was of the belief that runner was not travelling well enough to take him into race and for that reason he elected to shift to the inside. He added passing the 200m MANDALAY BLONDE was racing tightly to his outside and he was unable to move that runner wider to secure clear running. He further added he was mindful that IN GREAT NIC was racing in the vicinity of his heels approaching the 250m and he then elected to try to gain a run to the inside of BEST TO HURRY however was unable to secure racing room and became held up on the heels of that runner.

BEST TO HURRY – Jumped out at the start and bumped STORM HARBOUR.

STORM HARBOUR – Bumped at the start.

ROMANCE FACTOR – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider W D’Avila reported after beginning awkwardly ROMANCE FACTOT never travelled comfortably at any stage of the event and displayed abnormal breathing patterns throughout the race. Trainer J Hanna reported he would now consider sending ROMANCE FACTOR for a spell, adding that he would have the horse examined by his own veterinary surgeon and report back any condition which come to light in the coming days.

MISHANI PHAROAH – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TOP BABE – Laid out rounding the home turn.

Race 9: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1100 metres

Soon after arriving at the barriers, lightning was detected in the immediate vicinity of the racetrack and all runners were instructed to return to the tie up stalls. A subsequent track inspection by Stewards and a delegation of senior riders found the track not suitable for racing after approximately 20 millimetres of rain and the remaining event was abandoned.
