Race 1: HEC FREEMAN AND BILL FAULKER QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (860m)
KRUMAC – Leaving the 600m, shifted in when not fully clear of WHY SO ANGRY which was obliged to steady and bumped the running rail. Jockey K. Yoshida was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
MHASAHN – Began awkwardly and was contacted when GAIRLOCH shifted out. Blundered near the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RICHBOY HARRY – Shifted in and contacted the running rail near the 600m. Again, near the 200m contacted the running rail.
TRAIL BOSS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
WHY SO ANGRY – Began awkwardly before being crowded between runners shortly after the start. Obliged to steady and bumped the running rail leaving the 600m when KRUMAC shifted in.
CANCELLED – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
GAIRLOCH – Shifted out at the start and contacted MHASAHN.
JACKYLLS DANSA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily held up on the entrance to the home straight.
KVAS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey N. Evans was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(a) for using his whip forward of the filly’s shoulder.
TINKERBELLA – Laid out and away from RICHBOY HARRY for some distance passing the 700m. Put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced approaching the winning post.
Following the running of this race, Jockey N. Evans was stood down after becoming ill. Jockey Evans was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next racing. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards’ Race-day Summary.
Race 2: BILL MCGOVEN AND MICK BUGLER MAIDEN PLATE (860m)
IT'SMEYOUWANT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Taken wider rounding the home turn when BRONZE MEMORY shifted out.
BRONZE MEMORY – Contacted on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Blundered near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RIP UP RUBY – Contacted on jumping. Raced keenly whilst being restrained near the 600m. Put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced approaching the winning post. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice L. Martyn advised the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages and would take significant fitness benefit from the run. Apprentice Martyn further added that in her opinion, the mare would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
SHAMROCK'S SECRET – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
PRINCESS SHANGHAI – Hung-out rounding the first turn. Raced keenly in the early stages.
I'M A CHOCOHOLIC – Blundered near the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BEHIND THE SCENES – Trainer B. Ahrens was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
Race 3: WALLY CROSS AND JACK BRENNAN MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
EMBEZZLED HEART (NZ) – Began awkwardly and then bumped. Contacted by SHADES OF SUMMER near the 1100m which had commenced to race fiercely and shifted out.
MOONLIGHT KICKS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages, and in doing so shifted in on several occasions tightening HANG OUT.
DENUTO – Shied at the winning post and shifted out. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice C. Vitler advised the gelding travelled well throughout the event however proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
HANG OUT – Raced in restricted room near the 1200m for some distance to the inside of MOONLIGHT KICKS which shifted in whilst over-racing. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
KING OF THE LOCHS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
BETTER BELIEVE IT – Bumped by MAEVE near the 600m.
LIPSTICK LIES – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
MAEVE – Momentarily crowded near the 600m and contacted by BETTER BELIEVE IT. Laid in rounding the home-turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Lowe advised that the mare failed to travel throughout the event and proved disappointing. Apprentice Lowe further advised that in her opinion, the mare may have come to the end of its preparation.
OUR ESPRIT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHADES OF SUMMER – Contacted on jumping. Commenced to race fiercely approaching the first turn and had to be restrained, shifted out and contacted EMBEZZLED HEART.
LUCIFER THE CAT – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn and became awkwardly placed on the heels of MAEVE which simultaneously laid in.
Race 4: NOEL STARTZ MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
LORD DANILO – Slow to begin and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Johnston was advised that the gelding would have a warning placed on it for its barrier manners. Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily became awkwardly placed on the heels of THAT’S YOU on the entrance to the home straight.
TAKE THE HINT – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 27 lengths, revealed a slow recovery. Trainer D. O’Connell was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for the poor performance.
MOR KOMPASHYN – Contacted on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
THAT'S YOU – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
JONDY GRACIE – Contacted on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Commenced to weaken from the 400m, obliging THAT’S YOU to shift wider to obtain clear running.
LILICA EBET – Slow into stride.
MAGICAL EYE – Improved onto heels near the 800m and was steadied.
ALL EYES ON HER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice B. Wheeler advised his instructions were to race in a position with cover, however when the filly commenced to race keenly in the early stages, he elected to stride forward and obtain the lead. He added that when JONDY GRACIE continued to apply pressure to his outside in the middle stages, the filly continued to race fiercely throughout the event. He further added that whilst the filly improved well from the 400m, it commenced to weaken noticeably over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Wheeler added that in hindsight he should have made more effort to relieve the pace of the race that had been established in the middle stages, and that he may have placed his mount under pressure too early which ultimately may have proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainers representative B. Killion was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Race 5: JACK TILLACK RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1400m)
STATE A FACT – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
SMOOTH FLIGHT – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into the riding of Apprentice S. Champkin in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
VICTORY'S GHOST – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHAPE OF WATER – Bumped on jumping. Carried wider leaving the 1200m, and in doing so contacted UNCLE BUD and in turn ON THE TIGHTROPE, which was trailing had to be steadied. Near the 50m, shifted out when not clear and tightened the running of UNCLE BUD, resulting in Jockey J. Stanley having to stop riding. Apprentice C. Krahnen was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
ON THE TIGHTROPE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Steadied near the 1200m.
UNCLE BUD – As Jockey J. Huxtable was overweight, Stewards permitted Jockey J. Stanley to be declared the replacement rider. Jockey J. Huxtable was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Carried wider and contacted near the 1200m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Near the 50m, tightened for room when SHAPE OF WATER shifted out when not clear. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Stanley reported that being caught wide throughout was detrimental to the overall performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
DECEMBER DIAMOND – Underwent a veterinary examination after arriving late on course due to transportation issues and was cleared to start.
TSUKINO – Tightened for room on jumping and contacted SHAPE OF WATER. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
Race 6: CORAL SHIMMING RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1400m)
BOKUDEN – Blundered on jumping. Put in an awkward stride near the 800m. Eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Huxtable reported that he had significant concerns with his mount’s actions when placed under pressure from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Cornish was advised that given Jockey Huxtable’s concerns, the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards’ prior racing again. Trainer G. Cornish advised it would be his intention to have the gelding examined by the Stable’s Veterinarian in coming days.
HAYAKU – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
HUSSON'S REVENGE – Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.
SILVER PEARL – Contacted on jumping. Laid out rounding the first turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
JACK'S BOOM – Jockey M. Hellyer advised it had not been intention to lead on the gelding, however after identifying a lack of early speed he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and obtain a prominent position.
CRAZY EYED FRED – Near the 1200m, obliged to steady when SILVER PEARL laid out. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
MAYBE SMART – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
STAR CHANCE – Contacted on jumping.
Race 7: GREG ELLIOT MEMORIAL CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (860m)
COINCIDE – Slow to begin. Blundered on the entrance to the home straight.
MOUETTE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
BAD FOREST – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.
TE PANI – Trainer I. Turner was fined $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have lacerations inside its mouth. Trainer I. Turner was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards’ prior to racing again.
SPICY DUCK – Contacted on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the inside of its off-hindleg.
BEITSOO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DELIGHTFUL DREAM – Slow to begin.
GOODES – Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 400m.
Race 8: ERROL AND ROCHELLE BACHMANN APPRENTICE RACE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1400m)
THIEF BY NIGHT – Began awkwardly.
BAROCCO BAR – Hung out for some distance in the early stages. Over-raced in the middle stages. Hung-out rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight. Trainer E. Fouchard was advised that given the gelding’s racing manners, it would be required to officially trial to the satisfactions of Stewards’ prior to racing again.
AMENOPHIS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
BEEN A SECRET – Contacted shortly after the start
UNDER THE PALAIS – Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift out off the heels of COSMIC BEAUTY to obtain clear running near the 200m.
MOOTESSA – Contacted shortly after the start. Hung out rounding the first turn. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
GRANNY'S REWARD – Refused to jump as the start was effected and took no competitive part in the remainder of the event. Trainer A. Collins was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
BAVARIAN LADY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
FASTHEARTBEAT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for a significant period and was found to be sore on palpation to the off-fore tendon. Subsequently was declared a late scratching at 2:37pm. Trainer P. Jenkins was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
TOBA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 9: SAVE THE DATE 2025 CHARITY GOLF DAY 27TH JUNE COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1100m)
APOLLO TEN – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice S. Champkin pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching and passing the winning post, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MOET AT MIDNIGHT which was obliged to check and directed inwards, further resulting in CHISUM having to be severely checked. Apprentice Champkin’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence Sunday, 18 May 2025 and to conclude Saturday, 31 May 2025 on which day she may ride. When determining penalty, Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference, Apprentice Champkin’s record in relation to this rule, guilty plea and apprentice status Apprentice Champkin was advised of her rights to an appeal.
FENTON – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
MY SICADA – Proved difficult to load. Trainer G. Banks was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
BOLD RANSOM – Slow to begin.
CHISUM – Shifted in at the start and contacted MOET AT MIDNIGHT. Momentarily held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn before shifting in.
FORT WILLIAM – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MR POLAR – Declared a late scratching at 2:25pm due to transportation difficulties.
COUNT NICHOLAS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Contacted PRESS YES rounding the home turn.
PRESS YES – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Contacted with COUNT NICHOLAS rounding the home turn.
QICKWIT – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Shifted out at the start and contacted CHISUM. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Blundered on the entrance to the home straight.
Race 10: SAVE THE DATE 2025 LADBROKES GATTON CUP 28TH JUNE FILLIES & MARES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1100m)
DIBBA DOBBA – Contacted on jumping.
STAR SEEKER – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which was beaten 30 Lengths, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Devine was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
DIAMOND WITNESS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its near hindleg which required treatment. Trainer D. O’Toole was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
MISS ZERMATT – Taken wider by MORGANITE which shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
LITTLE CHARMER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Eased from heels leaving the 800m.
MORGANITE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
BLERIOT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
SHOT DOWN BY LOVE – Leaving the 800m, shifted in when not clear of SLIM PICKINGS which was taken in across heels and obliged to check. Jockey M. Savva was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
DOUBLESHARKATTACK – Obliged to shift in to obtain clear running near the 200m.
SLIM PICKINGS – Dislodged its tongue tie in the mounting yard and subsequently had to be refitted on arrival at the barriers. Contacted on jumping. Leaving the 800m, taken in across heels and obliged to check when SHOT DOWN BY LOVE shifted in.
