GENERAL
Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 at 12:25pm.
As Jockey R. Wiggins’s was not riding due to illness, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey R. Wiggins’s was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming.
RACE 1: LADBROKES BIG BETS MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
PROUD MISS – Declared a late scratching at 11:12am due to transportation difficulties.
KING MAL – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
O'EXPLOSIVE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 1100m, checked when tightened for room to the inside of KING MAL (J. Lloyd), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
WHAT DID YOU SAY – Change of tactics; to settle further back if circumstances permit. Slow to begin and tightened for room shortly thereafter. Settled at the rear of the field.
BODBOD – Bumped by KING MAL at the start, was taken out and bumped with RARE MOON. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced greenly in the middle stages.
RARE MOON – Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 400m with MISTER MIGHTY.
SHE'S GOT GRACE – Raced wide for the majority.
VALOUROUS COMMAND – Slow to begin.
MISTER MIGHTY – Bumped near the 400m with RARE MOON. Approaching the 300m, was held up for a short distance and had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of SCION. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Soft 7 at 1:05pm.
RACE 2: LADBROKES POPULAR SRM QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 860M
Prior to the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8 at 1:23pm.
BRAVE IN SEATTLE – Bumped at the start. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice O. Kendal advised the filly raced greenly and may be better suited to races over a further distance than that of todays. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BRIGHT OUTLOOK – Began awkwardly and was bumped by DAMN SHE’S FINE shortly thereafter.
DAMN SHE'S FINE – Bumped with UP OVER'N GONE at the start and then shifted in bumping BRIGHT OUTLOOK.
I AM PIETRA – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the winning post, improved close to heels and went to the line without being fully tested.
ROSE OF CHANTILLY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
NUZANA – Began awkwardly and was bumped. Raced wide for the majority.
UP OVER'N GONE – Began awkwardly and bumped with BRAVE IN SEATTLE. Shortly after the start, shifted in and bumped with DAMN SHE'S FINE. On return to scale, Jockey L. Tilley advised he had some discomfort in his left foot after making contact with the barrier partition on jumping away.
RACE 3: BOOK YOUR CORPORATE XMAS PARTY TRACKSIDE – SUNDAY 21ST DECEMBER CLASS 3 PLATE 1600M
FOUR ACE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Cast its off-fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its near-hind fetlock.
CHANGE THE DEEL – Raced keenly in the early stages.
MIDNIGHT BOOM – Raced keenly near the 1300m, improved onto heels and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority.
FRIEND IN NEED – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS BM58 HANDICAP 1400M
PROPHET OF BOOM – Co-Trainer C. Geran was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting PROPHET OF BOOM to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear (without a bubble cheeker). On the entrance to the home straight, blundered and fell, subsequently dislodging Apprentice R. O’Connell. PROPHET OF BOOM underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice R. O’Connell was examined by the QAS officials and cleared of any injuries, however was advised by Stewards, due to the seriousness of the fall, he would require a medical clearance, inclusive with the satisfactory results of a concussion test prior to next riding.
LIETUVA – Bumped at the start.
GOOGAZ – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI EMPIRE – Tightened for room and bumped shortly after the start. Near the 1200m, raced in restricted room and was steadied to the inside of PROPHET OF BOOM (R. O’Connell) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice R. O’Connell was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Inconvenienced on the entrance to the home straight by the fallen runners and was eased down from this point onwards.
FOREBEARS – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly thereafter. On the entrance to the home straight, contacted the fallen PROPHET OF BOOM, becoming severely unbalanced and subsequently dislodged Apprentice B. Harrison. FOREBEARS underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice B. Harrison was examined by the QAS officials and cleared of any injuries.
Following the running of this race, Stewards and a delegation of riders inspected the section of track near the 300m where PROPHET OF BOOM blundered and fell. The riding group, in consultation with Queensland Jockey Association representatives, expressed concerns with continuing on with the meeting, Stewards were also of the view an unnecessary risk to both horse and rider was present and considering the continued poor weather conditions, the expected rate of track deterioration and the limited availability of remedial efforts to maintain consistency across the entirety of the racing surface, the remainder of the meeting was called off at 3:26pm.
