GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 4. B. Lerena +1kg
 
As Jockey J. Murphy had transportation difficulties and Apprentice O. Webb was not riding at today’s meeting for personal reasons, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
 
Trainer J. Bruce was fined $200 pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch LUCONI by the prescribed time.
 
Stewards took initial evidence and adjourned an inquiry into an alleged incident that occurred following the running of race 3 between licensed jockeys T. Banks and M. Schrapel.
 
Race 1: LADBROKES BIG BETS MAIDEN PLATE         860 Metres
 
DAFFERS – Declared a late scratching at 12:43pm on veterinary advice after the mare reared over in the tie-up stall area. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DAFFERS be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st BETTY MAUD – 33c the win, 27c the place
2nd SOUTHAMPTON NICCO – 30c place
3rd REVANTAS – 18c the place
 
Trainer R. Chatterton was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing and must officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
 
AIR CONTROL – Began awkwardly, bumped and lost ground.

BOLD LOUIE – Severely blundered on jumping, unbalancing apprentice L. Martyn.
 
REVANTAS – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
BALERION DRIVE – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in throughout.
 
BETTY MAUD – Laid out rounding the turn near the 800m. Laid out again rounding the home turn.
 
LOQUITO – Declared a late scratching at 12:05pm on veterinary advice after the filly was stung by a wasp in the tie-up stalls and required treatment.
 
KVAS – Began awkwardly and bumped with AIR CONTROL. Raced keenly in the early stages.


Race 2: BOOK YOUR NEXT ROUND AT GATTON JUBILEE GOLF CLUB 5462 1420 BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP      860 Metres

APOLLO TEN – Approaching the 100m, apprentice C. Sutherland lost the use of his offside rein for a short distance.

BONNIE AMORE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
WHISKEY DANCER – Raced wide throughout.
 
BUCKALTIUS – Blundered on jumping.
 
LITTLEMISSCANCAN – Began awkwardly.
 
ROTHWEILER – Momentarily held up for clear running on the entrance of the home straight before shifting in.
 
FANCI FLEUR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
QUARTERSHARE – Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good (3).


Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN PLATE       1400 Metres

GOLD DAZZLER – Held up rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration on its near side shoulder. Following the running of this race, jockey L. Tilley reported he had some discomfort in his left foot after being contacted by a cast plate from another runner.
 
LOVE AIN'T FREE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Cast the near fore plate.
 
PRINCE OF SYNERGY – Stewards approved for the gelding to race without a nasal strip as it was unable to be attached. Began awkwardly.
 
SOWILO RODINA – Slow to begin.
 
BOLD BEAUTY – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
MAGNETIC ISLAND – Apprentice O. Kendal reported her mount felt uncomfortable in its action on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying signs of heat stress and subsequently received veterinary treatment on course.
 
CIRQUE DE LA VIE (NZ) – Slow into stride. Improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be steadied.
 
OUR SASSY PRINCESS – Slow to begin.
 
PROUD MISS – Slow to begin. Held up from the entrance to the home straight until near the 200m.


Race 4: LADBROKES MEGA MULTI BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP    1400 Metres

DRIALLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
JUNGLE FEVER – Leaving the 100m, raced in restricted room and near the 50m had to be steadied when DRIALLE (A. Heinrich) shifted in under pressure. Apprentice A. Heinrich was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
TSUKINO – Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 5: GOODYEAR AUTOCARE GATTON BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP    1100 Metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when QICKWIT proved difficult to load. Trainer M. Palmer was advised a warning would be recorded against the barrier manners of the gelding.
 
XERRI – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

SCORCH – Slow into stride. Over raced on heels leaving the 800m.
 
AWESOME SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied before subsequently over racing at heels, shifting in and bumping the running rail a short distance later.
 
CRUMPETS – Raced wide for the majority. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
QICKWIT – Trainer M. Palmer was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding without a tongue tie. Bumped on jumping.
 

Race 6: SAVE THE DATE - SUN 25TH JAN - AUSTRALIA DAY LONG WEEKEND RACEDAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400M

ASSENT – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SWITCH TO GO – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported his mount was disappointing and he had recommended to connections to remove the pacifiers and give consideration to adding blinkers to the gelding’s gear.
 
SNUGG – Taken wider near the 700m when UPSTART LOVER shifted out after improving onto heels and raced wide from that point onwards. Leaving the 600m, bumped on a number of occasions with UPSTART LOVER. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

UPSTART LOVER – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and improved onto heels near the 700m and shifted out. Leaving the 600m, bumped on a number of occasions with SNUGG.

YOU THINK SO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 700m, laid out causing apprentice E. Pomfrett to become momentarily unbalanced in the saddle. Apprentice E. Pomfrett reported the mare didn’t appreciate today’ s track conditions. Apprentice E. Pomfrett was reminded of her obligations when using her whip when out of contention.
 
CAFE MOCHA – Taken wider leaving the 800m before shifting in shortly after.


Race 7: MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP     1600 Metres

GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Over raced in the early and middle stages and improved onto heels near the 1200m and again at the 800m and had to be steadied. Held up from the 400m until approaching the 200m.
 
NATIVE BEE – Raced keenly in the early stages and laid out rounding the first turn near the 1100m.
 
RED COBRA – Approaching the 1000m, brushed the running rail. Near the 700m, improved onto heels and was steadied.
 
STANDLEE – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BUGDEN – Slow into stride and was hampered shortly thereafter. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ROMAN HEIR – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.

SIR BEVERIDGE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
ED I AM – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped.
 
SHOT DOWN BY LOVE – Bumped on jumping.
 
OAKFIELD EAGLE – Blundered on jumping.
 
BOLD TYRANT – Bumped and hampered shortly after the start.
