He added, after racing in a position further back than intended, the gelding failed to travel strongly throughout and was disappointing. Trainer N. POWER OF SUCCESS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 500m for a short distance.
BRINGME – Shifted in at the start and bumped RUGBY. Raced wide without cover for the majority. Rider K. Yoshida reported his mount was inclined to hang in from the 500m, which proved difficult for him to ride BRINGME out in his normal manner.
RACE 3: RDO EQUIPMENT GATTON MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M
ACTS ALONE – Laid out rounding the home turn. Near the 300m, briefly raced in restricted room between TALLEYRAND and SLAYRIDER before being eased down approaching the 200m. Rider H. Shaw reported the gelding which led in a recent trial and as a result elected to be forward today, travelled well in the early and middle stages, however; when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, felt uncomfortable in its action and as a result, he elected to ease his mount down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Kropp was advised a warning would be placed on ACTS ALONE for its poor performance and further advised to report back in the days subsequent on the gelding’s condition upon return to the stable due to the concerns raised by H Shaw on the action of the gelding.

Laid in when placed under pressure near the 500m. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted in particular settling in a forward position, rider M. Hellyer stated the instructions were to give his mount a squeeze from the barrier, in an attempt to settle further forward than it had at its previous starts. He added, after beginning well from a wide barrier and encouraging his mount, he settled in a handy position. Trainer D. Dobbins confirmed the instructions issued and stated he has been consistent with his instructions to always race in a handy to midfield position. Although Stewards accepted his comments, nonetheless, reminded him of his obligation to notify Stewards of any changes to his regular tactics.
SEALORD (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
RACE 4: PORTERS PLAINLAND HOTEL BM60 HANDICAP 1400 M

LOVE TO BE PROUD – Bumped at the start. Over the concluding stages, raced in restricted room to the inside of PEACH GALANTES (App B. Baker) which was shifting ground. Apprentice B. Baker was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for carless riding in that she failed to make any effort to stop and straighten her mount from shifting ground. In not taking the matter any further, Stewards noted her relative inexperience and although LOVE TO BE PROUD raced in restricted room, couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that her actions cost LOVE TO BE PROUD finishing in a higher placing.
MYSTERY POWER – Passing the 1100m, had to eased when racing close to the heels of COCO JEWEL (N. Masuda), which shifted in when not quite clear. Rider N. Masuda was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
ROARING SUCCESS – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until near the 300m. When questioned on the tactics adopted in particular his riding from the 800m, Jockey R. O’Sullivan stated that his mount was travelling well through the middle stages and being towards the rear of the field on a tight track, felt it best to ride for luck. When questioned in relation to his riding near the 500m and particularly if there was an opportunity to shift wider at this stage of the event, rather than being held up for clear running. Jockey R. O’ Sullivan explained that he was still of a mindset to ride for luck at this stage and as he became aware that he was going to be unable to find clear running, shifted wider to obtain clear running whereby his mount let down strongly and finished the race off well. Stewards noted his comments and advised R. O’Sullivan that he may have been better suited shifting out and improving sooner than he did on this occasion.
TUESDAY – Blundered at the start. Briefly held up for clear running at the entrance to the home straight.
DON'T STOP ME NOW – Shifted in at the start and bumped LOVE TO BE PROUD. Rider G. Cartwright reported that after beginning only fairly, she settled further back than anticipated.
