RACE 1: MAC CITRUS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

BJORN – Slow to jump.

MRS ASIA – Bumped by another runner at the 650m.

SNITZIOLA – Had to be steadied at the 650m when crowded for room.

GOLDEN CASH – Tightened by another runner at the 650m.

JEPTOO – Raced wide early, then hung in at the 650m making contact with another runner despite the efforts of the rider and then continued to lay in for the remainder of the event. Trainer Mr B Hudson was advised that a warning would be placed against the mare for her racing manners.

Correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of BJORN to view footage of the start to see if the gelding was afforded a fair start. After doing so rider Ms K Gates was comfortable the start was effected correctly and Stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

RACE 2: GOLDEN ORANGE HOTEL MOTEL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M

DEPUTY PACK – Slow to jump.

SEQUOIA MISS – Slow into stride.

MISS PUGNACIOUS – Jumped inwards at the start.

TIN’S POCKET – Race wide throughout the event.

SACRISTIE – Had to be steadied when slightly crowded for room after passing the 600m.

LAVRO QUALO – After racing wide early pushed forward to obtain the lead at the 600m and slightly crowded runners to the inside. Rider L Appo was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Correct weight was delayed to allow the trainer of third and fourth placed horses Mr. B. Hudson to view footage of an incident at the 600m with a view to lodging an objection against second placed LAVRO QUALO. After the viewing the film Mr Hudson declined to proceed and Stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

RACE 3: GRAND HOTEL CLASS B HANDICAP 1200M

GAS BURNER – Slow to begin.

KROSS REFERENCE – Raced wide in the middle stages of the event.

SIR STEPHEN – Raced wide after it had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.

FEISTY GIRL – Began awkwardly and shifted out losing considerable ground and then raced tailed off. When questioned rider L Appo stated that after being awkwardly away the filly was not able to make ground on the field in the early stages of the event and therefore did not fully test his mount in the final stages of the race.

RACE 4: KEN O’DOWD OPEN HANDICAP 1400M

DARK ANGEL - Blundered at the 1200m when contacting the heels of another runner

PURE SUNSET – Raced three wide for the majority of the event and tired in the run to the finish. Apprentice rider J Guthmann-Chester was questioned and asked to explain his riding instructions. He stated that he was told to push forward to obtain the lead or a position outside the leader and to not restrain the gelding. After viewing the film Stewards believe after travelling 300m to the first corner, when not being able to get a position outside the leader he may have erred in his decision to stay wide when it would have been better to slightly ease his mount to obtain a position one off the fence behind the two leaders. Apprentice J Guthmann-Chester agreed with Stewards that in hindsight it would have been a better option to give the horse a chance of finishing the race off. Stewards noted his explanation.

RACE 5: BOODLES CONCRETE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400M

HITMAN HARRY – Slow to jump and raced with head in the air for a short distance after the start.

BONNAY FLYER – Had to be steadied off heels at the 900m.

RAUNCHY COL – Raced tailed off for the majority of the event and was not competitive. When questioned, trainer Mr G Teal indicated that he may retire the gelding from racing. Stewards however advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding for poor performance.
