QRIC Stewards Report

GAYNDAH JOCKEY CLUB: 13th June 2020
Weather: Fine Track: Firm 2 Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly (Chairman), C Fedrick
Starter: D Slack
Clerk of Scales: R Bellert
Judge: C Weidemann
Veterinarian: Dr N Hitchcock

General:
Subsequent to the meeting, and on review of the official Racing Australia published results for Race 5, it was noted that ADAYONDEK, which had been scratched by trainer B Loakes at 2:32pm due to transport difficulties, was placed 11th in the field, beaten 30.4 lengths.  This anomaly was corrected later that day and results amended accordingly with Racing Australia.  Stewards will inquire into how this discrepancy occurred, and a report will be forwarded to the QRIC Thoroughbred Chief Steward.

Race 1: CLASS B HDCP 1000 Metres

DONE IT AGAIN – slow to begin.

MAGIC MYSTERY – fractious leaving the saddling enclosure and reluctant to proceed to the barriers.  Stewards permitted the cross-over nose band to be removed from the gelding. Slow to begin.  Laid in under pressure over the final 200 metres.

WAMIAD ADLAW – contacted on the off hind leg by another runner when moving onto the track.  Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and cleared to start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

CHILD SUPPORT – slow to begin.

LOVE RUSH – shifted out to improve approaching the 400 metres taking TOY WHITTY wider on the track. A short distance later TWOGOBOOM, which was following, was inconvenienced when obliged to steady away from the heels of TOY WHITTY.  G Geran, rider of LOVE RUSH, was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.

MONTE SANTO – rider P Hamilton was reprimanded for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalty Stewards took into his good record in this regard.

DIAL – uncompetitive throughout the event and finished tailed off to be beaten in excess of 55 lengths.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer A Skelton was advised DIAL must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

TOY WHITTY – taken wider on the track near the 400 metres.

CRIBBY MISS – declared a late scratching at 1:30pm when unable to be loaded to the barriers.  As there was no on-course or off-course betting at this meeting, no deductions were applicable. Trainer B Hudson was advised the filly must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

STRYKING MAID – as G Steele was delayed arriving on course stewards permitted H Richardson to ride the filly.

TWOGOBOOM – inconvenienced when passing the 400 metres.

Race 3: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1200 Metres

Race 5: CLASS B HDCP 1400 Metres

Prior to correct weight P Hamilton, rider of second placegetter CROOKED ARROW, viewed the video replay in the home straight before lodging a protest against first past the post SENTIMENTAL MISS, ridden by K Gates alleging interference over the final 100 metres.  After taking evidence from all parties stewards found at a point near the 80 metres SENTIMENTAL MISS, when under riding, shifted out inconveniencing CROOKED ARROW resulting in its rider being unable to fully test his mount for a short distance. After taking into account where the incident took place, the amount of ground lost by CROOKED ARROW, and the one length margin separating both horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the protest.

At a subsequent inquiry, K Gates was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) and was advised to stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.

MOUNTEBANK – slow to begin. Rider A Faehr was fined the sum of $100 for use of the whip more than five times prior to the 100 metres.  When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, trainer J Livingstone was of the opinion the gelding did not appreciate today’s firm surface and it would be his intention to now spell MOUNTEBANK.

ALLOFIT – stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.  In light of the gelding’s recent poor record in this regard, trainer D Rideout was advised ALLOFIT must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

CROOKED ARROW – inconvenienced near the 80 metres when SENTIMENTAL MISS shifted out under pressures.

AKLAVIK – raced three-wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track rounding the home-turn.

SENTIMENTAL MISS – shifted out under pressure near the 80 metres.

ADAYONDEK – declared a late scratching at 2:32 pm after trainer B Loakes advised Gayndah Jockey Club raceday officials that he had experienced transport difficulties.  As there was no on-course or off-course betting at this meeting, no deductions were applicable.

HE’S MCCAW – slow to begin, uncompetitive throughout and finished in last place to be beaten in excess of 55 metres.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore fetlock.  Trainer W Kuskopf was advised HE’S MCCAW would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.
