BOHO BEAUTY – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Co-trainer Mr. Toby Edmonds was advised a warning would be issued against the mare’s pre-race behavior. Leaving the 900m was placed in restricted room and checked when racing to the inside of IRING which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

DARK HORSE – Raced keenly in the early stages and was steadied from heels leaving the 900m.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr. M Lakey was advised a Veterinary Certificate is required for the mare prior to next racing.

DOOBIE RUBY - As the mare had not started in a period exceeding 12 months, it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival at the track and passed suitable to race. Fractious in the parade yard dislodging jockey A Thompson.

ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – Prior to the event trainer P Campbell advised Stewards that she will be instructing Apprentice H Gillie to ride the gelding in a hands and heels fashion only if possible as the mare resents being struck with the whip.

STAR SEEKER – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer Mr. K Devine advised that the mare had been racing in a tongue tie which it resented significantly at its most recent start at Murwillumbah on 21st January, 2023 and for that reason he elected to remove that gear from the mare for todays event. Mr Devine added that in addition to that gear change he also applied blinkers to its gear for todays event which he felt may have contributed to the improved performance. Mr Devine went on to state that whilst he had expected an improved performance today, he was somewhat surprised to see it win todays event.  Stewards noted the explanation.

CHAMPION PARADE – Approaching the 900m was steadied when placed in restricted room when racing between CASH ARTIST which laid in and MASTER RED which shifted out marginally.

KNOWITALL JACK – Over raced during the early stages proving difficult to restrain. Apprentice B Wheeler reported that after over racing in the early stages his mount travelled comfortably through the middle stages however, when the horse racing in advance of him commenced to yield ground from the 900m, this resulted in him getting shuffled back through the field for some distance before being able to shift to the outside of that runner near the 700m. Apprentice Wheler further added from this point the gelding ran on only fairly and in his opinion resented the kick back. Stewards noted the explanation. Apprentice B Wheeler was reprimanded for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
