GENERAL
 
As Jockey R Jamieson was injured and not riding at the meeting, she was replaced as per the Stewards Summary.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting-
 
Race 6- BANTAMWEIGHT - J Guthmann-Chester +1/2kg.
Race 6- LUCIELLE - J Worley +1/2kg.
 
 
Race 1: GOOD LUCK SUNSHINE IN PARIS Fillies and Mares
BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1540 metres
 
SKYTAIN – J Morris, rider of SKYTAIN, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
PRINENTE – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event.
 
DOTNED – When leading the event put in an awkward stride at the 1400m crossing.
 
SHADIE MILLY – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted.
 
MAMMA MEDIA – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: XXXX Class 5 Handicap 1200 metres
 
IRING – In the early stages of the home straight shifted out to improve and bumped ATLANTIC WAY. When asked to comment on the performance rider N Callow reported the horse travelled comfortably during the race, however when placed under pressure in the home straight, responded only reasonably to his riding and was somewhat disappointed with the overall effort of IRING.
 
ATLANTIC WAY – Bumped in the early stages of the home straight. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
SPIRIT'S CHARM – After being slow to begin shifted in and bumped ALL STARS.
 
ALL STARS – After beginning awkwardly was bumped on the hindquarters by SPIRIT’S CHARM.
 
 
Race 3: THANKS DOMINIQUE Colts, Geldings and Entires
BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1540 metres
 
ATON OF DELIGHT – Jumped in at the start.
 
BANDIT – Shifted in abruptly at the start and checked.
 
PAINTED BLACK – Bumped at the start when ATON OF DELIGHT jumped in. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – Over-raced near the 1200m when the pace was steady. When asked to comment on the performance, rider M Hellyer reported after over-racing in the middle stages, WOWIT’S WILLYWONKA settled comfortably from that point, however, did not quicken as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
WAYLAID – Jumped out at the start and bumped GRATSIE.  Over-raced near the 1200m when the pace was steady. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
BUMRAH – Checked at the start.
 
GRATSIE – Bumped at the start. Over-raced near the 1200m when the pace was steady. G Cartwright, rider of GRATSIE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
Race 4: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE Maiden Plate 2000 metres
 
GALIFIANAKIS – Change of tactics, ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, was ridden forward to lead the event from the 1700m.
 
IN CLOSE REACH – Raced three wide in the middle stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 800m.
 
RIVER PARK – Slow to begin. Shifted wider on the track to improve from the 1200m and then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Rider J Murphy advised he desisted from pressuring the horse near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the near foreleg.  Trainer A Chau was advised RIVER PARK would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.
 
ZOUCAN TOUCAN - Change of tactics, ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Rider G Cartwright could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
 
LUCIELLE – J Worley, rider of LUCIELLE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
 
Race 5: JEWEL AT BRC MARCH 18 Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
MOST IMPRESSIVE – Momentarily steadied near the 900m when MINKS STAR shifted in when not fully clear. Rider N Callow reported after being crossed near the 900m the horse was inclined to hang out for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the tongue of MOST IMPRESSIVE.
 
HOT BANANAS – Jumped out at the start and bumped SPRITES.
 
GENERAL PHELPS – Slow to begin.
 
SPRITES – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
MILLIFFE – Checked near the 850m. At a subsequent inquiry B Wheeler, rider of MINK’S STAR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 850m when not fully clear resulting in MILLIFFE being checked to avoid heels. The licence of B Wheeler to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 5th March up to and including midnight 13th March 2023.
 
 
Race 6: VETRON Maiden Plate 1050 metres
 
REGALO D'ORO - Change of tactics, ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin and unable to muster early speed, was caught wide before being restrained to rearward position with cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DEEP MILLIONS – Near the 650m shifted out to improve and bumped SCHULLER.
 
SCHUELLER – Slow to begin. Bumped near the 650m.
 
AMALFI QUEEN – Trainer K Hickmott was fined $200 under LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider on the horse by the prescribed time. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
BUBBLES 'N' MORE - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
UPPER CLASS GIRL – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
FEE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: GLOBAL TURF BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1900 metres
 
ELIZANO – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event. M McGuren, rider of ELIZANO, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
BONBORA – Rider J Guthmann-Chester reported the horse travelled comfortably during the race however when placed under pressure was disappointing, adding that BONBORA coughed on a number of occasions on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer Greg Cornish if any condition comes to light in the coming days. 
 
EARLY THOUGHTS – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. C Collis, rider of EARLY THOUGHTS, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
THE DRILLER – Crowded on jumping. Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
LINCOLN TOWN - Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
THAT'LLDOTOO – Rider K Zechner reported the horse was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event.
