GENERAL
 
As jockey S Cormack was not riding at today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, he was replaced as per the Steward’s summary.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting-
 
Race 7 – DANEROCK – C Robertson +1kg
 
Due to the veterinary official being delayed at arriving on course, all races were put back one time slot with the last race to be run at 5:15pm.
 
Due to the amendment of race times, stewards permitted N Tomizawa to replace J Guthmann-Chester in race 3, owing to J Guthmann-Chester being engaged to ride at another venue.
 
 
Race 1: LA LUNA BEACH CLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
MINKS STAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice B Wheeler advised that whilst the filly had to do some work in the early stages to secure the position outside the leader, he felt MINKS STAR travelled comfortably in the middle stages however when asked to quicken in the home straight, the filly didn’t respond as he had anticipated and was one paced in its finishing effort. Apprentice Wheeler further added that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance other than in his opinion the filly raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer C Anderson advised Stewards that MINKS STAR would be sent for a spell.
 
GALAXY GENERAL – Laid in during the early stages of the event.
 
STILL READY – Jockey A Spinks advised that his mount travelled comfortably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight, it failed to quicken and in his opinion was disappointing. Jockey Spinks also recommended to connections that the gelding may appreciate a step up in distance next start.
 
MENARI MAGIC – Approaching the 600m, attempted to shift wider to improve, however was unable to do so when BOARDIE held its racing line to the outside. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BOARDIE – Approaching the 1000m point, raced in restricted room to the inside of GALAXY GENERAL which was laying in away from MINKS STAR.
 
Race 2: KURRAWA SURF CLUB Class 3 Handicap 1900 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
NEW WORLD TAPESTRY (USA) – Raced wide throughout. At the 150m, inconvenienced and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of BLAVATSKY which laid out despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey N Tomizawa was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip in an action that raises his arm above shoulder height.
 
LATELY (NZ) – Approaching the 600m, was awkwardly placed at the heels of BLAVATSKY.
 
THAT'LLDOTOO – Slow to begin.
 
BLAVATSKY – Laid out for the majority of the event and over the final 200m continued to lay out, resulting in the rider being unable to fully test his mount. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer M Currie advised that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the synthetic racing surface. Trainer M Currie was advised that a warning was placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Trainer M Currie will report to Stewards anything that comes to light in the subsequent days that may have had a bearing on the performance of the mare.
 
MISS PIERPOINT – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 3: MERMAID BEACH SURF CLUB BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1150 metres
 
RAMTASTIC – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BRAVE WARRIOR – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. Laid in during the early stages of the event.
 
QUIET RIOT – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.
 
BRAVE ENOUGH – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BRAVE WARRIOR. Approaching the 700m, shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
FLYING ANNIE – Laid out approaching the home turn. Apprentice C Collis reported that the mare failed to travel comfortably throughout the event and when asked to quicken, didn’t respond to his riding in the home straight as anticipated and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying some airway congestion. Trainer J Bruce advised Stewards that he would have a veterinary examination carried out, inclusive of an endoscopic examination and will send the results to Stewards.
 
TIMELY BEL – Raced wide throughout. Forced wider near the 700m.
 
Race 4: STANDARD MARKET COMPANY Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1050 metres
 
COSMIC SERENADE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SNEAKY STARTER – When asked to comment on the performance of the filly, Apprentice S Callow stated that her instructions were to race in a forward position, which she complied with. She added that the filly had to do some work in the early stages to secure the forward position and travelled comfortably in the middle stages, however when placed under pressure before the home turn, failed to quicken and proved disappointing. Trainer B Mair advised stewards that in her opinion the filly did not appreciate the synthetic racing surface.
 
FACETIOUS – Bumped on jumping.
 
MARNIE'S STAR – When questioned, Jockey A Spinks advised Stewards that the mare was resuming from a spell and after only beginning fairly he elected to race wider on the track to avoid kickback in the early and middle stages. He further added that MARNIE’S STAR had a tendency to lay in during the home straight, however finished the race well and will appreciate an increase in distance. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
RUSSIAN DIVA – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 5: THE YIROS SHOP Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
 
I AM AZZURRO – Raced wide throughout. Shifted in marginally and bumped TOOMUCHINFORMATION, leaving the 500m.
 
DUSKY DANCER – Shifted out momentarily leaving the 500m.
 
TOOMUCHINFORMATION – Shifted out on jumping and bumped TISANI EMPEROR. Leaving the 500m, raced in restricted room between I AM AZZURRO, which shifted in marginally after being bumped by TOOMUCHINFORMATION, and BUCKALTIUS which shifted out to improve around the heels of DUSKY DANCER. As a result of this incident, TOOMUCHINFORMATION was obliged to come to the outside of the heels of I AM AZZURRO near the 300m.
 
GREY NOISE – Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure near the 300m, shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of DUSKY DANCER, before altering course back to the inside to secure clear running. Apprentice C Collis was fined $200 pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight. Apprentice C Collis was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
TISANI EMPEROR – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer K Kemp was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
Race 6: TALLEBUDGERA SURF CLUB Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
DIS IS DUKE – Raced wide throughout.
 
CANYOUFEELIT – Bumped heavily at the start by BETTER CLASS.
 
BETTER CLASS – Began awkwardly, shifting in abruptly and bumped heavily with CANYOUFEELIT.
 
SIDESTEP ME – Over raced in the early stages when attempting to be restrained to a position with cover. Hung out from the 500m point. Rider C Robertson reported at scale that the gelding failed to settle in the early stages, then commenced to hang out from the 500m, resulting in him not being able to fully test SIDESTEP ME. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing clinical symptoms of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer G Doughty was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate inclusive with the results of an ECG and to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
GRIS AMOUR – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages, having to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions.
 
Race 7: COMMERCIAL KITCHEN COMPANY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap1540 metres
 
GENTLE PRINCE – Approaching the 1450m became awkward in its action for a short distance and lost ground. Apprentice Y Lewis advised stewards that her saddle shifted shortly after the start which she believes was the reason for the horse becoming awkward in its action. Held up from the 500m point until rounding the home turn. Apprentice Y Lewis was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
FIGHTING MAGNUS – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
EMMY REGINA – Apprentice C Collis was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
WAYLAID – Raced wide throughout.
 
FREEDOM AVENUE – Over raced in the middle stages when the pace of the race slackened.
 
BURY ROAD – Slow to begin. Apprentice M Kennedy dropped her whip at the 250m.
 
DANEROCK – Fractious before the start was effected. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SIDEWALK – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 8: BOB MCHARG 50 YEARS OF SERVICE Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 58 1050 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed due to TEE AMICI and IN FRONT being fractious in the barriers, resulting in IN FRONT being removed from the barriers and assessed by the veterinary official, and was cleared to start.
 
LUCIFER'S REWARD – Slow to begin and then bumped shortly after the start.
 
VICEMAN – Raced in restricted room momentarily before entering the home straight and had to be steadied.
 
HIGHER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice D McGillivray was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
TEE AMICI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Apprentice B Wheeler advised stewards that after beginning awkwardly, the gelding failed to muster early speed. Apprentice Wheeler added that from the 700m point he had concerns with the action of TEE AMICI, and for this reason he did not overly pressure the horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than a slow recovery.  Trainer S Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
 
IN FRONT – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn. Trainer M Faulkner was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners.
 
PLAINTIFF'S FRIEND – Checked at the start after being crowded by FREE LUNCH. Raced wide.
 
FREE LUNCH – Shifted in abruptly on jumping, crowding inside runners. Laid in during the early stages.
