GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
 
Race 4 – ALMIGHTY RISING – M. Cahill + 0.5kg (55kg)
 
Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROB VICKERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP         2000 M
 
TIRITIRI (NZ) – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
BLUSHING LUCAS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. When under pressure in the straight, laid in.
 
OSAKA MISS – Slow to begin.
 
ALALTUN (NZ) – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of mild heat stress.  
 
Race 2: TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1100 M
 
DASHING GEE GEE – Raced wide without cover throughout. When questioned, apprentice E. Lang stated she had been instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position, however when she applied pressure to her mount on leaving the gates, SHINSHINTO also went forward at that stage, obliging DASHING GEE GEE to race wide without cover. Apprentice Lang added when SHINSHINTO moved to a three wide position approaching the 800m, her mount was carried wider and remained in this position for the remainder of the race and consequently weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SHINSHINTO – Trainer I. Turner was reprimanded pursuant to AR65 for failing to produce SHINSHINTO’S thoroughbred identification card when required. Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
 
POCKETROCKET – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Hellyer was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
STAR OF ROBIGLEN – Shifted out at the start and bumped MADDISON’S MISSILE. Raced keenly in the lead.

Race 3: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP         2000 M
 
STATE A FACT – Near the 500m, checked when tightened between SIR ZINO and HIMEJI, which hung out and shifted considerable ground making the turn.
 
HIMEJI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and lay out making the turn at the 1600m. Hung out rounding the home turn. Eased down from passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DOUBLE QUICK – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and lay out making the turn at the 1600m.
 
DARABAZ – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced very wide making the turn near the 1200m. Eased down from passing the 200m.
 
SUDDEN SUSPECT – Near the 300m, was bumped by SIR ZINO, which shifted in slightly.
 
Race 4: CHANDON GARDEN SPRITZ BOOK NOW CLASS 2 HANDICAP  1050 M
 
The start of this event was delayed when FLYING RUPERT proved difficult to load.
 
ABRAZEN LAUGH – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
EUPHRATES DREAM – Held up from approaching the 500m until approaching the 300m.
 
FLYING RUPERT – Shortly after the start, was restrained to take up a rearward position.
 
MY DOG DIESEL – Apprentice S. Callow was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
BOLD RANSOM – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and hung out from the 500m. Rider J. Taylor reported the gelding was not suited by the kickback of today’s track and raced very ungenerously. Trainer G. Cornish reported it is his intention not to race the gelding on synthetic surfaces and on this basis, no action was taken.
 
MYGIRLGLADYS – Trainer advised it was the intention for the mare to be ridden more forward. Slow to muster speed and settled worse than midfield.
 
GHOST HUNTER – Raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 500m, steadied when awkward on the heels of DUSKY DANCER
 
Race 5: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP        1200 M

The start of this event was delayed when THE BRONX BULL proved difficult to load.
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish image of the dead-heated 2nd place runners. After viewing the photo finish image, Stewards were satisfied with the decision and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
 
HELL APPROACHING – Rider M. Cahill reported the gelding was reluctant to stretch out due to the kickback and consequently tailed the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Lakey reported it is his intention not to race the gelding on synthetic surfaces and on this basis, no action was taken.
 
 
FULL SCREEN – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
THE BRONX BULL – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
 
FENTON – Over raced in the early stages and for some distance approaching the 800m got its head up.
 
LUCKY JESS – Near the 800m, steadied to avoid the heels of ADELAIDE’S LACE (W. D’Avila), which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey W. D’Avila was reprimanded.
 
Race 6: LIFEFLIGHTS LOTTERIES CLASS 5 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
MISHANI FRAUDSTER – Began awkwardly, lost ground and as a result, jockey M. Cahill lost the use of his near-side iron for a short distance after the start. Raced wide without cover and was allowed to stride and take up a more forward position than at its most recent starts. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
STARTER – Slow to begin and then bumped by EXCEED EXPECT, which shifted out.

ELLIEZ STAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer L. Freedman was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
WAYLAID – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
EXCEED EXPECT – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped STARTER.
 
VOLFONI – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 7: RQ SUPPORTS RACING INDUSTRY SAFETY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1540 M
 
DICKENSIAN – Shifted out on leaving the gates. Made the crossing near the 1400m awkwardly and became unbalanced. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
AVENUE OF STARS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
MAUI (NZ) – Slow to begin and then hampered when DICKENSIAN shifted out. Made the crossing near the 1400m awkwardly and became unbalanced.
 
PERNELL – When questioned apprentice J. Williams stated it has always been the intention to be further forward at recent starts, however the gelding has not shown expected early speed from the gates. Apprentice Williams added that today PERNELL began better than expected and after interference to runners to his inside, was able to take up a forward position in contrast to at its recent starts.
 
TUSCANY BOUND – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
SHOWDRA – Tightened by TUSCANY BOUND which began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
CHAYSE 'N' STORMS – Began awkwardly and then was tightened by AVENUE OF STARS which shifted out. Jockey W. D’Avila was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
