GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 2 – RUDIMENTARY – M. Hellyer +1kg (55kg)
Race 1: ALL STRATA PROJECTS MAIDEN PLATE 1900M
ARGUABLE – Slow to begin.Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BOURNE – On return to the stables, Trainer A Usher reported the gelding had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Ms Usher was advised was advised BOURNE would be stood down from racing for 3 months under AR79(4) and must satisfactorily trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
Race 2: JP FLYING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2000M
CHERBOURG – Held up for clear running between the 600m and 400m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
TOROVISTA – Laid out and made the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion awkwardly.Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
MEANASENKO – Inconvenienced after being crowded between runners on jumping. Laid in when weakening near the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice J. McMurray explained the gelding put in a number of awkward strides at the entrance of the home straight and was then inclined to lay in from that point when weakening and for this reason he desisted from pressuring MEANASENKO over the final 200m.
TIME TO TESTIFY – Bumped at the start. Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1000m. Shifted out marginally near the 400m.
HIT 'EM UP – Began awkwardly.
VANCITY – Slow to begin. When attempting to improve into a run near the 400m, checked and lost ground between MEANASENKO (J. McMurray) which laid in when weakening and TIME TO TESTIFY (D. Smith), which shifted out marginally after shifting away from CHERBOURG (F. Sandkuhl) which shifted out to improve. In the circumstances, Stewards were unable to apportion blame to any one rider, however advised all riders to exercise grater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RUDIMENTARY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Race 3: AMALGAMATED WINDOWS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1540M
NEOCLASSICISM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
WATERMELON – Slow to begin.
FAST DA – Laid out approaching the home turn.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
MAC MONTY – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer S. Field was advised MAC MONTY would be stood down from racing for 3 months under AR79(4) and must satisfactorily trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
THE WELLIAN – As apprentice S. Willis was delayed due to transport issues and no other apprentice was available, Stewards permitted senior jockey M. Hellyer to ride the gelding.
PROMETIO MAS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Race 4: AMALGAMATED BUILDING REFURBISHMENT BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1050M
I AM VOODOO – Raced wide throughout the event.
SUNSHINE HIGHWAY – After being delayed due to transport issues, declared a late scratching at 2:22pm.
VELVET – Near the 200m, inconvenienced and obliged to steady from the heels of I AM VOODOO (C. Sutherland) which shifted in under riding when not fully clear. Apprentice C. Sutherland was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
Race 5: AMALGAMATED PAINTING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200M
PANGAEA – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, reared, striking its head on the barrier partition and then flipped over backwards. Subsequently was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:29pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on PANGAEA be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st LIETUVA - 17c win, 16c place
2nd MY DOG DIESEL - 20c place
3rd HAMILTON BROWN - n/a
Trainer A Campton was advised that PANGAEA would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
I STOLE IT – Began awkwardly, contacted the nearside barrier partition resulting in apprentice C. Sutherland momentarily losing the use of his nearside iron before regaining it a short distance later.
LIETUVA – After being delayed due to transport issues, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on course and was cleared to start. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
HAMILTON BROWN – Slow to begin.
MADAME PEARL'S - After being delayed due to transport issues, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on course and was cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer L. Gough was advised MADAME PEARL’S would be stood down from racing for 3 months under AR79(4) and must satisfactorily trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
