GENERAL


Following Randwick and Casino thoroughbred race meetings being postponed, the following time changes were made by SKY channel.
 
Race 1 – 1.35pm
Race 2 – 2.10pm
Race 3 – 2.45pm
Race 4 – 3.25pm
Race 5 – 4.00pm
Race 6 – 4.40pm
 
Stewards accepted Trainer J. Smith’s and Trainer D. Bowen’s reasons in relation to the late declaration of riders in race 5 and race 6, respectively.
 
RACE 1: THE GRANT GOLDIE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP        1900 M

SLY CORNER (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and leaving the 100m, bumped CALL OUT on several occasions.
 
WATERMELON – Forced wider leaving the 700m when SLY CORNER shifted out to improve.
 
ROYAL RIFT (IRE) – Over raced in the early stages.
 
CALL OUT – Over raced in the early stages. Bumped by SLY CORNER on several occasions over the final 100m.
 
ATOMIC GOZEN – Began awkwardly.
 
SEERESS – Began awkwardly.
 

RACE 2: BEAUDESERT CUP AUGUST 16 BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1540 M

SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) – Shifted in at the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
ARCHERS REIGN – Shifted in at the start.
 
CAPITAL BOSS – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations in regards to riding his mounts out fully to the finish line.
 
HOTZINO (NZ) – Hampered at the start. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
GUS THE BUS – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
LORD VADER – Bumped at the start by SILVER WARRIOR which shifted in.  Near the 1400m, steadied from the heels of SILVER WARRIOR (J. Franklin) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice J. Franklin was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer A. Plumb was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to trial/gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 

RACE 3: BECOME A GCTC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1540 M

BOULEVARD BOY – Trainer P. Robl was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding to race without the tongue tie which was part of its advertised gear. Shifted in at the start. Laid in approaching the 400m before being corrected by its rider. Carried wider rounding the home turn by SOUTHERN DRAW which laid out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 100m, taken inwards by SOWILO RODINA which shifted in under pressure.
 
CIRCUS MAXIMUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
NOTABADLARTE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening SOUTHERN DRAW for a number of strides approaching the 50m.
 
PREFER TO DANCE (NZ) – Jockey K. Matherson could offer no explanation for the poor performance of the gelding.
 
RAINSITPOURS (GB) – Began awkwardly. Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Over raced in the middle stages. Cast its near hind plate in running.
 
SOMAX – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SOUTHERN DRAW – Raced wide until the 900m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Near the 100m, whilst weakening, was inconvenienced by BOULEVARD BOY, which was taken inwards by SOWILO RODINA (J. Lloyd), which shifted in under pressure. Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
SOWILO RODINA – Began awkwardly. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m.
 
SISTINE CHAPEL – Shifted out at the start. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
TANGO SPIRIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SCUTI – Fractious before the start resulting in the gelding beginning awkwardly and losing ground.
 
SUMMER READY – Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.
 

RACE 4: GCTC SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M

CROWIE'S SHOUT – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
FAMOUS PEDRILLE – Commenced to hang out from the 600m and took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than a minor cough. Trainer G. Doughty was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
LUMENS LENNY – Trainer S. Morrisey was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding to race without pre-race ear muffs which was part of its advertised gear. Began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of PYROIS. Raced in restricted room leaving the 900m when SIR MAURICE and FAMOUS PEDRILLE both shifted ground whilst over racing.
 
PYROIS – Slow to begin and had its hindquarters turned by LUMENS LENNY.
 
SIR MAURICE – Commenced to over race and shifted out leaving the 900m.
 
COMMAND APPROVED – Laid out in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SUJEED – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Laid out approaching and the rounding the home turn.
 
BLACK MINTO – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 

RACE 5: GC RACING INDUSTRY AWARDS AUGUST 21 BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when RYLOV became fractious in the barriers prior to the start. The gelding was subsequently removed, underwent a Veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
THROWIN SHADE – Began awkwardly and was then hampered and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Leaving the 200m, was severely crowded and became unbalanced when KELANOA (M. Philpot) shifted out to improve. Apprentice M. Philpot, in the presence of Racing Queensland apprentice mentor M. Cahill, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that leaving the 200m, she directed her mount out around the heels of RYLOV in an effort to improve, resulting in making contact with THROWN SHADE which was severely crowded for room, steadied and lost its rightful running. Apprentice Philpot’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 17th of August 2025 and to conclude midnight the 26th of August 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Apprentice Philpot’s good record in relation to this rule, guilty plea, status of an Apprentice and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
 
PALATIAL PRINCE - Trainer G. Richardson was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting the gelding to race without winkers which was part of its advertised gear.
 
SEA OF QI – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
SEEYA LATER GATER – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Became awkwardly placed at heels approaching the winning post.
 
REPHRASE – As the mare had not raced in an extended period of time, underwent a Veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Raced in restricted room and was eased approaching the 800m when SEA OF QI (M. Palmer) shifted in. Jockey M. Palmer was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey N. Tomizawa stated, the gelding which was racing back in distance today from its previous start, did not appreciate the kick back of the synthetic surface.
 
ON THE TARGET – When asked to comment on the performance Jockey K. Matheson was of the opinion the gelding did not appreciate racing on the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 

RACE 6: GCTC RENEW MEMBERSHIPS NOW BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1540 M

VIADELAMORE (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Improved into a narrow run leaving the 100m between GLENRAY’S MATE and AU REVOIR (M. Philpot) which shifted in under pressure, resulting in the gelding being crowded for room, making contact with GLENRAY’S MATE and having to be steadied near the 50m. Apprentice M. Philpot was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
WONFORWAZZA – Improved onto heels near the 1400m and was steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer M. Morrison was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to trial/gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
PRINCETON AWARD – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and again from the 200m until leaving the 100m.
 
THE WELLIAN – Raced wide until leaving the 1100m. Improved onto heels approaching the winning post.
 
AU REVOIR – Steadied after improving onto heels leaving the 1100m. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
DAMIANI – Steadied after improving onto heels leaving the 1100m. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
GOLD MERCHANT – Steadied after improving onto heels leaving the 1100m.
 
NEOCLASSICISM – Leaving the 1100m, steadied from the heels of THE WELLIAN (A. Goindasamy) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey A. Goindasamy was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Shifted in near the 800m despite the efforts of its rider. Cast its near fore plate in running. Jockey D. McGillivray was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on 3 consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
COCO JEWEL – Raced wide until the 1100m.
 
EASTOWN – Change of tactics; to be ridden further back from the wide barrier. Raced wide in a midfield position. Jockey J. Morris was reminded of his obligations in regards to riding his mounts out fully to the finish line.
 
GLENRAY'S MATE – Shifted out at start. Raced in restricted room leaving the 800m when NEOCLASSICISM shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
