RACE 6: LPS GROUP BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1540 Metres
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey S. Sheargold, rider of the fourth placed SARSEN against SUPRENDRE (M. Hellyer) the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference approaching the 200m. On the evidence, Stewards were of the opinion that approaching the 200m, SUPRENDRE did shift out, tightening SARSEN and obliging that runner to check and lose its rightful running. Bearing in mind the interference, how both runners finished the race off and the beaten margin of 1 ¾ lengths, Stewards were not satisfied that had the interference not occurred, SARSEN would have finished ahead of SUPRENDRE at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the judges semaphored numbers.
DISSELATION – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
NIGHTSTICK – Began awkwardly and bumped BETTER YET.
SARSEN – Approaching the 200m, checked when SUPRENDRE (M. Hellyer) shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Hellyer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching the 200m, he directed his mount out when not clear, into the line of SARSEN which was tightened for room, checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Hellyer’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 15 days to commence midnight 6th of October 2025 and to conclude midnight the 21st of October 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Jockey Hellyer’s record in relation to this rule, guilty plea, forthright evidence and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
BOKUDEN – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 700m.
THE WELLIAN – Jockey A. Goindasamy advised the gelding raced flat and was disappointing when asked for an effort from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
