GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 3 – Y. Lewis – IRON GRACE +0.5kg (56kg)
Stewards accepted Trainer M. Brosnan’s reasoning for the late rider declaration on KIRORO PEAK in Race 2.
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor SHIPPING LANE by the prescribed time.
Race 1: PENGUIN CONCRETE CLASSIC MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
SECRET SCOUT – When asked to comment on the performance jockey A. Allen reported the gelding hung out throughout the event and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
INQUISITOR – Bumped at the start
SAMURAI WAND – Began awkwardly.
ELEMISS – Bumped at the start.
Race 2: FORMOSA MARINE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540M
KIRORO PEAK (NZ) - Began awkwardly. Approaching the finish line improved close to the heels of MAYOR OF KINGSTON and shifted out.
WINNING ELEMENTS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Trainer R. Davidson was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners. Approaching the 1400m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Eased down over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off-hindleg. Trainer R. Davidson was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing.
ZOUMAN ALONG– Shifted in at the start and bumped with MAYOR OF KINGSTON. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey D. Peisley reported the gelding may not have been suited to racing on the synthetic surface.
CASUAL CAT – Trainer J. Pritchard was fined $300 pursuant to AR 107 for presenting the gelding on course with unsatisfactory race plates, resulting in the gelding having to be completely re-shod prior to the race.
MAYOR OF KINGSTON – Bumped at the start.
CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Leaving the 1200m improved onto the heels of JUST WALTER and had to be steadied.
CHAYSE'N' THE KING – Change of tactics, to settle forward. Settled outside the leader. Stewards questioned Jockey K. Zechner in regards to the tactics adopted, particularly in the middle stages when he had already obtained a position with cover, and elected to shift out and pressure his mount forward to sit outside the leader. Jockey K. Zechner stated that his instructions were to be more forward, and that after not beginning well and being crossed in the early stages, the mare commenced to race keenly leaving the 1200m, so he elected to shift wider and ride his mount forward to obtain a position outside the leader approaching the 800m. He added that from the 800m, the mare dropped the bit and didn’t respond to his urgings and commenced to weaken from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery. Trainer L. Kelly was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for its poor performance.
Race 3: KOLLOSCHE REALTY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2000M
WATERMELON – Raced wide in the early stages, before improving to settle outside the leader near the 1300m. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice B. Youngberry advised the gelding had to carry a big weight in today’s event, which she believes had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts.
SETTAT (NZ) – Slow to begin.
AUTUNNO – Leaving the 1500m improved onto the heels of BLACK TYPHOON and had to be steadied. Near the 700m shifted out to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.
MEANASENKO – Began awkwardly. Beaten a considerable distance. Trainer T. Churchill was advised that the gelding would now be restricted to racing at country venues, until it establishes form. Trainer T. Churchill advised Stewards it would be the likely intention to retire the gelding.
BLACK TYPHOON – Approaching 1500m improved onto the heels MEANASENKO and had to be steadied. Trainer R. Chatterton was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its poor performance.
SEEYA LATER GATER – Laid out rounding the home turn.
Race 4: ACCURATE ROAD PROFILING SERVICES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100M
I AM VOODOO – Began awkwardly and bumped SHIPPING LANE. Near the 700m laid out, before being corrected by its rider.
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice B. Youngberry was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for permitting her mount to shift in under pressure and told she must to stop and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.
SPEED MAP – Began awkwardly.
MISSY NO NAY – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
SHIPPING LANE – Began awkwardly and was then hampered shortly after the start.
Race 5: ARRON KENNEDY MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1540 M
BLACK MINTO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Stewards questioned apprentice C. Bellamy in regards to her tactics adopted in the middle stages. She stated it was her intention to lead, however once she obtain the leading position, the mare commenced to race very keenly. She added that she attempted to settle the mare, but didn’t want to restrain too much and have the mare fight against her. She further added that BLACK MINTO was disappointing when asked for an effort from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
BIRMINGHAM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
NEOCLASSICISM – Held up from the 600m, until approaching the 400m. Jockey B. Lerena reported his saddle shifted in the early stages, placing him at some disadvantage.
EASTOWN – Blundered on jumping.
CALVARY – Began awkwardly. Jockey S. Sheargold reported the gelding may not have appreciated racing on today’s synthetic surface.
DEEP DRIVE – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
TARADALE – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 6: COASTAL TIPPER HIRE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M
HOLLYWOOD EPIC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TARPS – Laid out under pressure from the 100m.
MINTO'S PRINCE – Laid in for the majority of the event. Jockey M. Palmer reported the gelding, which was up in weight in today’s race, was inclined to lay in throughout the race and did not appreciate the kick back from the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
CAT CALL – Near the 1100m, momentarily steadied and taken in when TARPS (C. Bellamy), shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice C. Bellamy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey D. Peisley was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the finish line.
BEACHSIDE BABE – Attempted to buck for several strides shortly after the start. Trainer L McCormick was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
BOMBISCUIT – Began awkwardly.
GRANDEUR ROSE – Bumped at the start.
ROCK LOBSTER – Bumped at the start
