STEWARDS REPORT

GOLD COAST TURF CLUB

TUESDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2025

WEATHER – Fine
TRACK RATING – Synthetic
RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Stewards – D. McMahon (Chair), B. Wright, P. Reardon, T. Hendy (Cadet)

GENERAL

As Jockey J. Lloyd was injured and not riding at todays meeting following a fall at the Gold Coast trials 3/11/25, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey Lloyd was advised that he will incur a 12 day stand down and would require a medical clearance and to complete a satisfactory COG test prior to next riding.

Stewards have taken some initial evidence and adjourned an inquiry into the conduct of licensed person Les Kelly JNR during the protest hearing in race 7 and a subsequent complaint made of his conduct during the adjournment of the hearing.

RACE 1: AC-TEC SERVICES MAIDEN PLATE 1900M

KIRORO PEAK (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SAVEA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

WEEKEND ARTIST – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages, before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1500m. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Bellamy advised the gelding didn’t begin that well and had to do too much work in the early stages to obtain a forward position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

CHAYSE'N' THE KING – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

RACE 2: TFH HIRE SERVICES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP         1200M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by B. Dais, Trainer of the second placed KING KRYPTOS against SPEITHTACULAR the first placegetter, alleging interference in the home straight. On the evidence, Stewards were of the opinion that near the 100m, SPEITHTACULAR did shift in and placed KING KRYPTOS in restricted room for a short distance. However, bearing in mind the crowding, how both runners finished the race off and the beaten margin of 1 ¼ lengths, Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference not occurred, KING KRYPTOS would have finished ahead of SPEITHTACULAR at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

CHERBOURG – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced in an extended period and was cleared to start. Bumped on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer R. Dart advised the gelding would now likely be retired. However, Trainer R. Dart was advised if the gelding were to return to racing, it would require a veterinary certificate, inclusive with ultrasound results of its near-fore suspensory and would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.

SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced four-wide without cover throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 200m, bumped with DON’T BE DRAMATIC.

KING KRYPTOS – Slow to begin. Leaving the 100m, raced in restricted room for a short distance inside of SPEITHTACULAR (M. Wishart) which shifted in. Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.

THE HOPESTAR – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly. Improved close to heels over the concluding stages and went to the finish line without being fully tested. Following the running of this race, Jockey S. Sheargold reported he had some discomfort in his left ankle after making contact with the barrier partition when THE HOPESTAR became fractious prior to the start.

TWO TIME GIRL – Bumped on jumping.

RACE 5: BMD CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when STARSARISE became fractious and attempted to burrow under the front of the barriers. The mare was subsequently removed and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:09pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on STARSARISE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

1st FAST FUSION – 32c the win, 17 the place
2nd I AM VOODOO – 26c the place

ABSOLVE – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after the start. Weakened from the 500m. Jockey D. Smith reported that the gelding got its tongue over the bit. Trainer B. Gentle was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its poor performance.

RACE 6: TRADEPRO BATHROOM RENOVATIONS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1900M

WATERMELON – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

FRIEND IN NEED – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Bellamy advised the mare didn’t travel comfortably from the 800m and when placed under pressure, didn’t respond to her riding and was disappointing. As the horse had been removed from the racecourse prior to the veterinarian being able to examine it, Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing or trialing.

TARADALE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Cast its near-hind plate in running.

MAGIC OF MILLO – Slow into stride.

RACE 7: ALPHA JOCKEY CLUB BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1540M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice C. Bellamy, rider of the dead-heat first placed BLINDING SPEED against CHAYSE ‘N’ LEISA (B. Lerena) the other dead-heat first placegetter, alleging interference over the final 100m. On the evidence, Stewards were of the opinion that near the 50m, CHAYSE ‘N’ LEISA did shift in and raced tight with BLINDING SPEED from that point until the winning post. Stewards however could not be satisfied that had this not occurred, BLINDING SPEED would have finished ahead of CHAYSE ‘N’ LEISA at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Raced wide until the 1100m. Over raced in the early stages. Shifted in leaving the 100m and raced tight over the concluding stages with BLINDING SPEED.
