GENERAL
Due to Yarra Valley thoroughbreds being abandoned, the following races were rescheduled to the below times:
Race 1 – 1.10pm
Race 2 – 1.45pm
Race 3 – 2.20pm
Race 4 – 2.55pm
Race 5 – 3.35pm
Race 6 – 4.14pm
Race 7 – 4.49pm
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 3. M. Hellyer +0.5kg
Race 7. M. Palmer +1kg
Trainer J. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor CAPITAL BOSS by the prescribed time.
Race 1: GOLD COAST TITANS MAIDEN PLATE 1540 Metres
KISS THE DIRT – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Hellyer reported the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Morrison was advised that KISS THE DIRT will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
NOTABADJACKUP (NZ) – Cast its off fore plate in running.
OHH ERROL – Change of tactics; to be ridden further forward. Began awkwardly. Settled in a midfield position. Bumped with STYNSY near the 400m.
STYNSY (NZ) – Bumped with OHH ERROL near the 400m.
WHAT DID YOU SAY – Hampered between runners shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance and the tactics adopted, apprentice J. Newman advised that she understood her instructions were to have the gelding ridden further back today however, in her opinion, the gelding is better suited when racing in a more forward position. When questioned, trainer J. Moore stated that his instructions issued were to begin neutral on the gelding, and shift to the rail in an attempt to obtain cover on the fence in a handy position. Stewards advised trainer J. Moore to be more specific when issuing instructions especially to apprentice riders.
DECADAD – Began awkwardly.
PACIFIC NOVA – Began awkwardly.Commenced to weaken from the 800m and was eased out of the race at the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hindleg. Trainer J. Grob was advised that PACIFIC NOVA will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
CAIRO QUEEN – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Race 2: NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS MAIDEN PLATE 1150 Metres
CHOP CHOP GO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
HE IS THE KISS – Due to transport difficulties, rider B. Thornton was replaced by jockey M. Palmer. Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
SCION – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey K. Zechner reported that the gelding was obliged to do too much work in the early stages to obtain a forward position and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. He added that the gelding didn’t feel comfortable today on the synthetic surface.
YONAKA – Bumped on jumping.
SANS EGAL – Began awkwardly then was bumped on several occasions.
SHEMAKESMENERVOUS – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey A. Thompson advised the filly had to do too much work in the early stages which he believes had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 3 QLD MAROONS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when ALBION SQUARE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of its rider on arrival at the barriers and was found to have cast the off fore plate. After receiving farrier attention, ALBION SQUARE was found to be lame in the off foreleg and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.22pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ALBION SQUARE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st SPIETHTACULAR 0c win, 0c place
2nd MIO SORRENTO 3c place
3rd I AM VOODOO 3c place
Trainer B. Gentle was advised that ALBION SQUARE will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing again.
I AM VOODOO – Began awkwardly then blundered. Raced wide for the majority.
MIO SORRENTO – Apprentice O. Webb reported that the gelding didn’t feel comfortable today on the synthetic surface.
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BULSARA – Approaching the finishing line, raced in restricted room and had to be eased.
CRYPTOSHARE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SPIETHTACULAR – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of heat stress and was treated by the on course veterinarian.
Race 4 BRISBANE BRONCOS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1540 Metres
HULKAMANIA – Began awkwardly.
TYPHOON TIP – Raced in restricted room near the 450m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice F. Sandkuhl reported the gelding resented racing in the kickback.
Race 5 BRISBANE LIONS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2000 Metres
TEWKESBURY – Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
AUTUNNO – Slow to begin.
GREEN MEADOWS – Raced keenly for a short distance when being restrained near the 1800m. Continued to race keenly in the middle stages. Held up for clear running from the 400m until the 250m.
SEEYA LATER GATER – Change of tactics; to be ridden further forward. After being slow to begin, settled in a midfield position.
TERMITE – Slow to begin.
MAGIC OF MILLO – Began awkwardly unbalancing apprentice C. Baker. Commenced to race keenly in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward from the 1200m to take up a forward position near the 800m. When questioned regarding the tactics in the middle stages, apprentice C. Baker stated that it was not her intention to end up in a forward position, however with blinkers back on today the gelding raced keenly and she elected to allow it to stride forward rather than overly restraining MAGIC OF MILLO. Stewards noted apprentice Baker’s comments.
Race 6 DOLPHINS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1540 Metres
BIRMINGHAM – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m, steadied from the heels of CHAYSE’N’LEISA (B. Thornton) which after crossing, steadied. Jockey B. Thornton was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
CAPITAL BOSS – Disappointed for a run near the 250m, steadied and shifted in.
CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Jockey B. Thornton advised the gelding had to do too much work in the early stages which he believes had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LUCONI – Began awkwardly.
GALAXY SUNSET – Change of tactics; intention to lead if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled in a midfield position.
BLACK TYPHOON – Slow to begin.
QUALITY MISS – As Jockey A. Thompson was overweight, he was replaced by jockey D. Smith. Jockey A. Thompson was fined $300 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
Race 7 QUEENSLAND REDS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
SUJEED – Slow to begin.
MA'S EPIC – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Newman advised the mare was not suited to racing on today’s synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
STARSARISE – Raced wide with cover throughout.
GREY IMPACT – Bumped on jumping before being steadied from the heels of SURCOTE.
AIMA SUN – Slow to begin.
NETWORK ERROR – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
SURCOTE – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
ROCK LOBSTER – Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 75m with ABSOLVE.
ABSOLVE – Bumped with ROCK LOBSTER near the 75m.
PROMETIO MAS – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.
