GENERAL
As jockey N. Tomizawa and apprentice F. Sandkuhl were injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards race day summary. Both riders were advised they would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 4 – D. Peisley + 0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 6 – B. Thornton + 0.5kg (56.5kg)
RACE 1:TAB HOLLINDALE STAKES DAY ON SALE NOW MAIDEN PLATE 1540 M
WHAT DID YOU SAY – As the tongue tie was unable to be fitted and the nasal strip became detached at the barriers, Stewards permitted the gelding to race without this gear.
NAMARA (NZ) – Bumped at the start.
ALKEBULAN – Raced wide until the 1000m.
CRYSTAL GARDEN – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on the entrance to the home straight.
KAMIGAMO (NZ) – When apprentice J. Busuttin was unable to claim any of her allowance and there was no other apprentice available to replace her, Stewards permitted apprentice Busuttin to ride the filly without claiming. Apprentice Busuttin was fined $200 pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance. Began awkwardly and bumped NAMARA.
MOMORY – Jockey K. Zechner could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A. Chau was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for the poor performance.
RACE 2: VALE NOEL SMITH MAIDEN PLATE 1900M
COOLOUNDRA – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.04pm when the gelding injured itself in the tie-up stalls. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
HOPETOUN PARK – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start commenced to over race and when restrained, raced ungenerously with its head in the air. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, shifted wider on the track. Continued to over race in the middle stages.
COME ON MR SNIPS – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
WILLIE OR WONG HE – Change of tactics; intention to settle midfield. Settled towards the rear of the field.
ARTISTIC TOUCH – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB) – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LITTLE LUNCH (NZ) – Leaving the 800m was inconvenienced and obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of TWO TIME GIRL which was weakening. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PREACHABULL – Raced wide without cover throughout.
TWO TIME GIRL – Commenced to weaken from the 800m and was eased down in the home straight. Jockey H. Shaw could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Leggatt was advised the mare would be required to officially trial to Stewards satisfaction and would be ineligible to race at provincial race venues until it establishes more competitive form at country race venues.
RACE 3: M & M CAUSER 30 YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1150M
HOLLYWOOD EPIC – Apprentice B. Osmond reported that the gelding did not appreciate the kick back from today’s track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KING OF MINTO – Jockey D. Turner reported that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer L. Kelly advised that it is the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
TARPS – Began awkwardly.
ADALIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DEVINE FALLS – Slow to begin. Failed to muster speed in the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: THE GRANT GOLDIE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1050M
DUSAN – Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m, taken out by CAT CALL and was eased when racing in restricted room.
CAT CALL – Buffeted between runners at the start and lost ground. Over raced in the middle stages and proved difficult to restrain. Shifted out near the 700m, taking DUSAN and SO BE INSPIRED wider. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CHARLOTTE'S HERE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
SO BE INSPIRED – Near the 700m, forced wider on the track. Raced wide throughout. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
BEITSOO – Raced wide throughout.
ONCE A LADY – Slow to begin. Near the 400m, steadied when racing in restricted room between CHARLOTTE’S HERE and MINTO’S PRINCE (P. Hamblin) which shifted out when not clear. Jockey P. Hamblin was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
SONIC ARROW – Began awkwardly, bumped and became unbalanced.
RACE 5: CHOOKIE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2000 M
WATERMELON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CALL ME LEGEND – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
POWER ACE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
FOREVER FORTUNE – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Raced wide in the early stages. Eased down from the 200m. Jockey B. Thornton could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SMELTER (IRE) – Raced keenly in the early stages.
HELL FOLLOWS – Raced keenly near the 900m, improved onto heels and shifted out. Near the 250m, improved onto the heels of the weakening FOREVER FORTUNE, had to be checked and shifted out.
PAPAL MISS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Ipswich on 26 March 2026 and was cleared to start. Inconvenienced near the 900m.
QUICK SHOT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Ballina on 23 March 2026 and was cleared to start.
FLYING ROTHE – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Leaving the 100m, obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
RACE 6: TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1540 M
AMBASSADORS – Shifted out rounding the home turn and bumped BRUTAL SUE. Apprentice B. Osmond was reminded of his obligations to fully ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
SLY CORNER (NZ) – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Bumped near the 1400m. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight before shifting wider near the 150m.
ARCHERS REIGN – Change of Tactics; intention to settle further back. Settled at the rear of the field. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
EFFIE'S JOY – Began awkwardly and bumped THE WELLIAN. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 1400m was awkwardly placed near the heels of BOLERO, shifted out and bumped SLY CORNER. Disappointed for a run and was steadied near the 300m. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running from that point until near the 100m.
THE WELLIAN – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.
BRUTAL SUE – Over raced in the early and middle stages and leaving the 1200m improved onto the heels of ARCHERS REIGN and shifted out. Continued to over race and was allowed to stride to obtain a position outside the leaders near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped rounding the home turn. Co-Trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its racing manners.
BOLERO – Bumped at the start.
SISTINE CHAPEL – Jumped in at the start and bumped BOLERO. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
