BENZINO – Raced keen early. Cast the off-hind plate in running.
LITTLE LUNCH (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHARK PARK (NZ) – Shifted out in the home straight under pressure.
MOMENT – As apprentice B. Wheeler was unavailable and due to a lack of suitable riders available, he was replaced by apprentice B. Youngberry.
PROMISES MADE (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting a rail in the tie up stall area. Slow to begin. Rider J. Lloyd reported the filly failed to handle the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following this, after cooling down, the filly was found to be displaying signs of tying up. Stable representative B. Killion could offer no explanation for the performance other than the filly was having its first start on the synthetic surface. He added after considering the report from rider J. Lloyd, it would likely be the stable’s intention for PROMISES MADE to avoid racing on synthetic surfaces in future.
RACE 2:MEMBERS & MATES 6 JUNE MAIDEN PLATE 1540 Metres
I AM ETOILE - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period. Cast the near fore plate in running. Passing the 300m, App L. Martyn dropped her whip.
RIZU – Over raced early. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). The examination also revealed an abrasion to the right hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
SORUTAL – Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 500m, was bumped by FLYING VISION (App B. Youngberry), which shifted out to improve. Apprentice B. Youngberry was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
ALKEBULAN – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 1000m. Near the 600m, steadied when disappointed for a run between FLYING VISION and SORUTAL, both of which shifted ground slightly. For a short distance passing the 500m, was held up.
ASTERN POWERS – Rider J. Taylor explained he gave the filly a dig after the start to which ASTERN POWERS responded and when wide, was obliged to press forward and join the leader near the 1300m before then steadying to take a sit behind the leaders.
FLYING VISION – Dipped shortly after the start when bumped by RIZU. Raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 1000m, steadied when close to the heels of RIZU. ALKEBULAN, which was following, also steadied.

AMAHNI'S GIRL – Apprentice B. Youngberry reported the mare travelled well, however; when asked for an effort in the straight, proved disappointing, adding that she had to make use of the mare early to obtain a forward position, which may have had an affect on its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PEPE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m.
BRAIN WAVE – Change of tactics – intention to be more forward. Settled worse than midfield. Raced wide without cover.
SMELTER (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Weakened from the 700m. When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding in the early and middle stages, apprentice A. Graham stated she was asked to be aggressive on SMELTER and take up a forward position. She said after beginning awkwardly, with the gelding taking some time to muster speed, in accordance with her instructions and despite being wide, rode forward, however; was not able to obtain a position closer to the rail due to AMAHNI’S GIRL holding her wider. She said as a consequence, she was then obliged to race three wide for the majority of the event. She added the gelding commenced to weaken passing the 700m and as she was concerned with its action, elected to ease SMELTER out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N. Luke was advised that SMELTER would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

BEST COFFEE – When questioned, apprentice B. Youngberry explained she was asked to be forward and find the fence either in the lead or behind the leader. She said after beginning well, she rode the gelding hard, however; MR BUBBALUSKI, one of the expected leaders in the race, held its inside position and when it was clear to her she did not have the speed to press on to get ahead of MR BUBBALUSKI, she elected to come back behind that runner to find the fence. She added EFFIE’S JOY had improved to the inside resulting in her mount being obliged to race one off the rail.
RACE 8:XXXX GOLD RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1540 Metres
MIDNIGHT MADNESS – App K. Johnston reported the gelding began well, however; after being caught wide, she allowed MIDNIGHT MADNESS to settle where comfortable. SEA OF QI – In the early stages, raced keenly when being restrained to hold a position inside of ARCHER’S REIGN.
