When questioned as to the improved performance of VOODOO BLUE MAGIC trainer L. Ross stated that he was surprised by the performance and the only tangible explanation he was able to offer was that the gelding may have appreciated the rain affected conditions.

Oliver reported at scale that from the wide barrier he elected to allow the horse to settle further back than intended as he was of the view that he was going to be forced to race wide. Trainer G. Race 5 – Gold Coast $1 Million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (R.L) – 1400m
1st – Deiheros 2nd – Testashadow 3rd – Echo Gal 4th – Liberty Island

VIENNA ROYALE was a late scratching at 7.44 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by G. Schofield the rider of LIBERTY ISLAND which finished fourth against TESTASHADOW (T. Clark) being declared the second placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 150m. On the evidence it was established that TESTASHADOW did dictate the running of LIBERTY ISLAND inwards over the final 100m and made slight contact with that runner over the concluding stages. However, bearing in mind the official margin of a ½ neck and a ½ head between runners stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this incident had a material affect on the placings and therefore dismissed the protest. At a subsequent inquiry T. Clark was charged for permitting TESTASHADOW to shift in when insufficiently clear of LIBERTY ISLAND, which in turn was taken in onto SHE’S MISS DEVINE, which then made heavy contact with BOLD CIRCLE. T. Clark’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) meetings to commence midnight 17 January 2015 and to expire midnight 1 February 2015.

BOLD CIRCLE – Forced to race wide by another runner after leaving the 1000m. Bumped over the concluding stages and became unbalanced.

HIJACK HUSSY – Near the 400m momentarily tightened for room. When questioned regarding disappointing performance T. Bell stated he elected to ease the filly in the early stages when racing wide in order to obtain cover. He further stated however, when placed under pressure near the 500m it failed to respond to his riding as expected and only found the line fairly over the concluding stages. T. Bell was of the view that the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to the filly racing again. Mr Gollan confirmed that filly would now be sent for a spell. A swab sample was taken.

Jockey Bell was suspended for one (1) week which was ordered to be accumulative to his careless riding suspension from Race 2. The suspension will commence midnight 30 January 2015 and expire midnight 6 February 2015. In assessing penalty stewards took into account jockey Bell’s poor record.

AppL. Tarrant pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner in excess of the five (5) permitted occasions prior to the 100m. App Tarrant was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) weeks to commence midnight 17 January 2015 and expire midnight 7 February 2015.
