As Jockey G Cooksley was to be overweight, he was replaced on DIDDY WIN DIDDY by App. J K Johnson in Race 8; and by App. M McGillivray on LADY DE RETZ in Race 6. Jockey Cooksley was fined the sum of $200.
Race 1: Barrier Reef Pools Class 1 Plate – 2200m
1st – Isadjourned 2nd – Etain 3rd – Halo De Lago 4th – Regal Conserve
Connections have advised that it was their intention to have REGAL CONSERVE ridden in a mid to back position if circumstances permit. Raced accordingly.
ISADJOURNED – Difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned as to the improved performance, Trainer K Deacon stated that he had been impressed by the mare’s performance two starts ago at Murwillumbah where it was forced to race wide and finished the race off well. Mr Deacon added that he was at a loss to explain the mare’s poor performance at its last start at the Sunshine Coast as an endoscopic examination and veterinary test following the race failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Deacon noted that the addition of a tongue tie today may have assisted in the improved performance as the mare had worked well with the tongue tie leading into today’s race. His explanation was noted.
MR PENNY PACKER – When questioned as to the tactics adopted today, App. R Vigar stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding with cover, however, it commenced to over-race in the early stages and as such he allowed it to stride forward to lead near the 1400m. App. Vigar added that his intention was to restrain the gelding at this point in an attempt to take a sit off ETAIN which was racing to his inside, however, when ETAIN improved during the middle stages and his gelding continued to over-race, he was unable to restrain it any further. Stewards advised App. Vigar that he should have made a greater effort during the middle stages of the race to restrain his mount in an effort to give it every opportunity to finish off the race. Taking into account the apprentice’s relative inexperience stewards were not of the view that his riding was culpable under the Rules of Racing.
ETAIN – When questioned as to the tactics adopted today in the middle stages, App. M McGillivray stated that he was not concerned with the tempo being set at that point of the race and was content to remain racing to the inside of MR PENNY PACKER. App. McGillivray agreed with Stewards that in hindsight he should have restrained the mare so as to allow MR PENNY PACKER to cross to the lead thereby giving his mount every opportunity to finish off the race. Taking into account the apprentice’s relative inexperience Stewards were not of the view that his riding was culpable under the Rules of Racing.
Following this race, App. J Hull (CASINO CENTURY) was examined by the ambulance officers after complaining of heat exhaustion. App. Hull was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements. Rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

PRUSSIAN HEART – Over-raced during the early and middle stages.
SNAPCRACKLE – Jockey S Galloway reported that the mare over-raced in the early and middle stages and as a result failed to finish the race off as expected.
DIAPHYSIS – Passing the 500m steadied when tightened for room by QUICK WITTED (J Morris). Jockey Morris was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

Race 3: Crown Golden Ale QTIS 3YO H’cap – 1200m
1st – Heart of Thunder 2nd – Seashells 3rd – Bukekayo 4th – Amata
Due to transportation difficulties, Jockey JP Stanley was replaced by Jockey L Rolls on COURT LANE.
The start was delayed when HEART OF THUNDER had to be re-saddled behind the barriers.
AMATA – Began awkwardly. App. JK Johnson was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right out to the end of the race.
A BIT WICKED – Raced wide majority. Jockey A Best reported that the colt hung out for the majority of the race. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer M Webb was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s racing manners. Mr Webb indicated that the colt would be sent for an immediate spell.
HEART OF THUNDER – App. M McGillivray reported that the gelding had a tendency to over-race for the majority of the race.
TONGUE OF FIRE – Jockey S Galloway was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race.

EXTREME SPORT – Inconvenienced shortly after the start. Raced greenly in the home straight and had a tendency to lay in.
MR CARDINAL – Raced wide throughout.
STRADAVARIUS – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey J Morris stated that he was instructed to utilise the inside barrier and take up a forward position. Jockey Morris added that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however, failed to stretch out in the home straight and may have felt the effects of today’s first start back from a spell.
Race 5: Sunup Solar F&M Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Tanzanite Luck 2nd – Miss War Trace 3rd – Shattering 4th – Wulfies Lady
Trainer M Wilson reported that MISS BELLA ROSA had become cast in its box in his stables. After arriving on course the filly was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.42 pm.
RED BOHEMIA – After being late arriving on course, underwent a veterinary examination and cleared to start.
ASTRADAS – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected, then began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped another runner resulting in it losing ground at the start of the race. When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey J Morris stated that after beginning awkwardly the filly was forced to race further back in the field than anticipated and rounding the first turn near the 900 commenced to hang out and continued to hang out during the middle stages of the race. Jockey Morris stated that for this reason he was unable to place the filly under pressure rounding the home turn, however, upon straightening he was able to ride the filly with his usual vigour but had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore leg. A swab sample was taken. Trainer T Edmonds was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the filly’s next race start.
SASSY KAT – Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early stages. Inconvenienced leaving the 300m.
SHATTERING – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.

TANZANITE LUCK – Taken wider near the 1000m. Raced wide throughout.
VISION OF HOPE – Taken wider near the 900m and as a result forced to race wide for remainder of race.
I LIKE CANDY – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey P Timbery stated that it was not his pre-race intention to lead today, however, after beginning well and with the addition of blinkers the filly was able to muster speed during the early stages resulting in it leading today. Jockey Timbery added that the filly had been fractious behind the barriers at its previous start and the softer conditions in the start before had resulted in it racing further back than anticipated on both occasions. Jockery Timbery indicated that the filly would race in a similar position at its next start.
MADONI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from heat stress.
Race 6: Highgrove Bathrooms Class 4 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Vienne 2nd – Some Call Her Wild 3rd – Lady De Retz 4th – Not a Singlemoment
Trainer D Kelly was fined the sum of $100 for the late rider notification of App. N Masuda on VIENNE.
Stewards acceded to a request by Trainer S O’dea to have Jockey A Spinks replace the indisposed App. J Hull on NOT A SINGLEMOMENT.
As Jockey G Cooksley was overweight and there was no senior rider available to ride at the weight, Stewards permitted App. M McGillivray to replace him on LADY DE RETZ.
The announcement of correct weight was delayed whilst Stewards questioned Jockey B El-Issa as to the reason why he weighed in at 56.0kgs which was in effect 500g light. Under the provisions of AR143(a) a rider is permitted a half kilogram when weighing in light. Furthermore, AR118(a) states that when calculating a rider’s weight in weighing out and weighing in, no account shall be taken of fractions of a half kilogram. As Jockey El-Issa did not weigh in, in excess of the permitted half kilogram, Stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored. Notwithstanding, Jockey B El-Issa was fined the sum of $500 under AR143(b) for weighing in under the declared weight.
LONG LASTING – Reared as start was effected.
KOLONGA – Slow to begin.
BREEZE ON BY – Began awkwardly. Near 900m steadied when tightened for room and again had to be steadied near the 700m and lost ground when forced to race in restricted room. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

FULL HAMMER – Forced wider on the track passing the 900m and obliged to race wide for remainder of race.
DIDDY WIN DIDDY - When questioned as to the tactics adopted on the gelding which raced in a more forward position today, Trainer P Duff stated that the gelding had raced further back than anticipated at its last two starts when racing over shorter distances. Mr Duff added that as such he instructed App. Johnson to ride the gelding out of the barriers in the hope that it would take up a mid-field position, however, after beginning well the gelding mustered speed early which resulted in it taking up a more forward position. His explanation was noted. App. JK Johnson’s whip broke leaving the 200m.
App. B Wallace (LEROY’S LUCK) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.
