Race 1: CCS Insurance Solutions QTIS 2YO Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Capitanear 2nd – Mr Epic 3rd – Favoured Grace 4th – Dream Finnish
The start was delayed when a section of the running rail near the 100m had to be repaired.
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey B El-Issa the rider of MR EPIC which finished 3rd against FAVOURED GRACE (T Treichel) being declared the 2nd placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 200m. After viewing the patrol film and on the evidence of all parties, Stewards were of the view that approaching the 100m MR EPIC obtained a run to the outside of FAVOURED GRACE at which point FAVOURED GRACE commenced to shift out under pressure resulting in MR EPIC being unable to be fully tested over the final 60m of the race. Bearing in mind the official margin of half a length, Stewards were satisfied that this incident had a material effect on the placings and as such upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the new numbers which were:-
1st Capitanear
2nd Mr Epic
3rd Favoured Grace
4th Dream Finnish
At a subsequent inquiry Jockey T Treichel (FAVOURED GRACE) pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out over the final 100m whilst being ridden along when insufficiently clear of MR EPIC resulting in Jockey El-Issa having to stop riding that gelding and having to steady his mount to avoid the heels of CAPITANEAR (B Stower). Jockey T Treichel was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 21/02/2015 and to expire midnight 04/03/2015.
MR EPIC: Slow to begin.
HARD CHOICES: Bumped on jumping away.
BAMBY: Bumped on jumping away.
CAPITANEAR: Hampered shortly after the start.
DREAM FINNISH: Hampered shortly after the start. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey C Whiteley stated that he was obliged to restrain the filly during the early stages to avoid being caught wide and in doing so settled towards the rear of the field. Jockey Whiteley added that he placed the filly under pressure from the 500m at which point it commenced to respond and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Jockey Whiteley added that the filly raced greenly and would be better suited when stepped up in distance.
FAVOURED GRACE: Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. Raced greenly in the home straight.
COMMAND HUNTER: Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m. Raced greenly throughout.
EQUAL LUCK: Raced greenly throughout.
Race 2: JK Financial Solutions Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Kwinana 2nd – El Torito 3rd – Wiggle Wiggle 4th – It Wasn’t Me
SPURS ON: Began awkwardly. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey A Spinks stated that the gelding began awkwardly and was unable to muster speed in the early stages. Jockey Spinks added that the gelding then raced greenly throughout and as a result he was unable to place it under full pressure in the early stages of the home straight. He further added that once balanced passing the 300m the gelding commenced to respond to his riding, however, shifted in abruptly over the concluding stages and had to be steadied. Jockey Spinks was of the view that the gelding may benefit from the addition of blinkers at its next start.
GEORGETTE: Began awkwardly. Hung in throughout the home straight resulting in App. Hearn having to stop riding and straighten his mount near the 150m.
TWINCITI DANCER: Slow into stride.
HENNRAY: Blundered on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Raced very greenly in the home straight.
EL TORITO: Steadied when tightened for room on jumping away. Shifted in under pressure over the final 100m.

TEST CARD: Raced greenly throughout.
WIGGLE WIGGLE: Raced wide throughout. When questioned as to the performance, App. B Ainsworth stated that she was instructed to take up a forward position, however, after beginning awkwardly from a wide barrier she was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race. App. Ainsworth further stated that leaving the 600m the filly was restrained in order to obtain cover, however, IT WASN’T ME improved to her inside at that point. App. Ainsworth noted that the filly was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and once balanced upon straightening she was able to place it under pressure and finished the race off well. Her explanation was noted.
COOL ROCKIN’: Hung out rounding the home turn.
MOKKIE MAGIC: Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 3: Walsh & Walsh Accountants Class 3 Plate – 2200m
1st – Somerset Lass 2nd – Supercoach 3rd – Topiary 4th – More Impact
SAN CLEMENTE: Connections advised gelding would be ridden off the pace if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
SUPERCOACH: Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned as to the tactics adopted, App. J Hull stated that his instructions were to take up a position at the rear of the field. App. Hull added that the gelding began awkwardly and in doing so the gelding’s head made contact with his face. App. Hull added that passing the 1700m the gelding commenced to over-race resulting in it being positioned wider on the track and despite his efforts he was unable to restrain the gelding which resulted in it leading by a considerable distance during the middle stages of the event. App. Hull was of the view that the racing manners of the gelding had a detrimental effect on its ability to finish off the race. Stewards advised App. Hull that after passing the wining post on the first occasion he should have made a greater effort to restrain the gelding and remain at the rear of the field instead of allowing it to shift 3 wide at that point.
TOPIARY: Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.
MOSSIMO: Leaving the 1500m commenced to over-race, steadied from heels.
MORE IMPACT: Over-raced early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: Careflight Rescue Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Caught a Cracker 2nd – One More Two More 3rd – Whose Else’s 4th – Triple Won
TORPEDO: Trainer B Hill advised the gelding would be ridden in a mid-field position today after racing in a forward position at its most recent starts. Ridden accordingly. Jockey T Treichel reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out in the home straight and near the 150m was steadied from the heels of TRIPLE WON.
ONE MORE TWO MORE: Blundered on jumping away.
LOOK I’M DANCING: Began awkwardly.
CRACKINGTHENUT: Began awkwardly.

DRAMATIC SAGA: Began very awkwardly, lost ground. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that after beginning awkwardly the filly over-raced when forced to settle at the back of the field. Nonetheless, Jockey Griffin was disappointed in the overall performance and felt the filly may be better suited when stepped back in distance and allowed to settle in a truly run race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer G Hall will be interviewed at a later date.
DYNA ROSE: Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced a short distance later. Over-raced during the early and middle stages. Upon straightening improved onto the heels of another runner and had to be checked.
APACHE SOX: Raced wide throughout.
CHILLI BEACH: When questioned as to his riding of the mare rounding the home turn Jockey B El-Issa stated that he was of the view that the pattern of racing was more suited to horses positioned out in the middle of the track. For this reason he permitted the gelding to shift out upon straightening which allowed the eventual winner to improve to its inside. Bearing in mind the pattern of racing today, Stewards noted the explanation.
LOCHLEE: Momentarily held up when disappointed for a run near the 300m and then obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.

LUCK AND FAME: When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer A Willick stated that the gelding, after drawing a wide barrier at its previous 2 starts, had been pressured early to take up a forward position. Ms Willick stated that as a result the gelding over-raced on both occasions and weakened over the concluding stages. Ms Willick noted that today the gelding was able to settle comfortably in a mid-field position which enabled it to finish the race off better than it had at its previous starts. Her explanation was noted.
