SPECIFIC CHOICE – When questioned as to the performance, App. B Grylls stated that she was instructed to take up a forward position. She added that when asked to improve leaving the 600m, the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. App. Grylls was of the view that the tempo of today’s race did not suit the gelding and had a detrimental effect on its performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.

Jockey Cahill further stated that he was reluctant to restrain the filly to take up a position at the tail of the field with cover as he was satisfied that the filly was comfortable travelling in its 3 wide position during the early stages. Jockey Cahill added that the filly quickened when asked to improve leaving the 500m however peaked on its run over the concluding stages. Whilst noting that the filly was obliged to cover extra ground today, Jockey Cahill was of the view that being second up over 1400m may explain why the filly failed to finish off the race as expected. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
PLATINUM STATE – When questioned as to the improved performance, Trainer B Guy stated that he had not been disappointed in the gelding’s last start at Doomben where it set a fast early sectional which resulted in it weakening over the concluding stages. Mr Guy added that the gelding’s best performances have been over today’s distance of 1400m and due to the cancellation of recent meetings due to weather conditions had been unable to place the gelding in 1400m races. His explanation was noted.
Jockey M Cahill (MISS COVER GIRL) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the permitted number of times prior to the 100m.
Race 6: Matthew Dunn Racing Class 6 H’cap – 1400m

Jockey Colless added that the gelding commenced to improve into the race passing the 400m, however, in his opinion failed to finish the race off as expected over the final 200m and proved disappointing. Trainer M Dunn thought the gelding raced flat today and may be better suited when ridden towards the rear of the field. Mr Dunn indicated that the gelding would now be freshened before its next race.
