Race 1: Schneider Energy Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Delvaux 2nd – Devil’s Princess 3rd – Really Reilly 4th – Special Jay

CHAOTIC ART - Began awkwardly. Bumped shortly thereafter.

ISLAND EMPIRE - Bumped shortly after start. Over-raced in the early stages resulting in the gelding racing 3 wide without cover throughout. Near the 300m bumped by IL PADRONE and blundered.

DEVIL’S PRINCESS - Raced ungenerously during the middle stages and near the 700m was steadied from the heels of CHAOTIC ART.

PLANET AMERICA - Held up rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight and as a result went to the line without being fully tested. When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey L Rolls stated that his instructions were to obtain a position just off the speed with cover. He added that for that reason he allowed MUSHROOM TREATMENT to cross to the lead passing the 900m. Jockey Rolls further added that the gelding then travelled comfortably during the middle stages. However, he was unable to obtain clear running when disappointed for a run between MUSHROOM TREATMENT and CHAOTIC ART during the early stages and again when disappointed for a run between MUSHROOM TREATMENT and SPECIAL JAY over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation.

SPECIAL JAY – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey Matthew Palmer reported that his intention was to take up a position closer to the speed today, however, the gelding failed to muster the necessary speed in the early stages despite his efforts.

IL PADRONE – Near the 300m bumped DEVIL’S PRINCESS. App. S Eilbeck reported that the gelding hung out for the majority of the race resulting in her racing 4 wide without cover.

REALLY REILLY – Near the 300m checked and lost ground when tightened for room between GALLIC WONDER and SPECIAL JAY. Held up passing the 200m.

ALOFTHYM – App. T Brooker was unable to claim down to her riding weight and as a result only claimed 2 of her 3 kgs. Inconvenienced leaving the 300m and again approaching the 100m.

CHEROKEE PRINCESS – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which was slow to muster speed in the early stages and trailed the field throughout failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer B Herne was advised that the mare must compete in an official trial prior to starting again.

Jockey R Goltz (MUSHROOM TREATMENT) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race.

Jockey Matthew Palmer (SPECIAL JAY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out upon straightening when insufficiently clear of REALLY REILLY. As a consequence REALLY REILLY had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room between GALLIC WONDER and SPECIAL JAY. Taking into account Jockey Palmer’s good race riding record he was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 18/07/15 and to expire midnight 29/07/15.

App. Graham noted that despite this the gelding failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in her opinion was disappointing. Trainer L Ross expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance. Mr Ross noted that the gelding was first up from a spell and given the impost of 59 ½ kgs he was obliged to engage an apprentice today. Mr Ross was of the view that the gelding would be better suited with a more senior rider in future.

MIA MADALENA - Bumped on jumping away. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the off hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Trainer T Whittington will be advised that a certificate of fitness will be required prior to its next race start.
