After the running of Race 3, Jockey JP Stanley was stood down by the club doctor. Jockey replacements were made as per Stewards’ Race Day Summary.

Race 1: T Mac’s Last Stand QTIS 3yo C&G Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Go Better 2nd – Captain’s Son 3rd – Reverse Logic 4th – Uh Oh

PONTY - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room. Raced wide throughout and hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. Upon straightening steadied when inclined to hang in across the heels of FIVE SPICES. Trainer L Ross will be advised that a warning will be placed on the colt’s racing manners.

RUM ‘N’ SONG - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room. Raced greenly in the home straight and hung out proving difficult to ride. Approaching the 100m when continuing to hang out steadied from the heels of FIVE SPICES. Trainer L Mayfield-Smith will be advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

UH OH - Near the 600m steadied when tightened for room between GO BETTER which laid in and away from CAPTAIN’S SON and KIDD THE CONDOR which shifted out marginally.

CAPTAIN’S SON - Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

GOOD TO BE GREAT - Raced wide throughout.

REVERSE LOGIC - Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: STA Travel Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – I’m Alone 2nd – Ofcourse She Does 3rd – Hot Mist 4th – Cheval Le Vent

STORMY LEO - Slow to begin.

OFCOURSE SHE DOES - Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. Leaving the 300m inconvenienced and obliged to steady from the heels of CHEVAL LE VENT.

CHAOTIC ART - Shortly after the start checked when tightened for room. Raced wide throughout.

JACKY LEGS - Over-raced during the early stages. When being steadied from the heels of ROUGISSANTE approaching the 800m shifted out and bumped I’M ALONE.

I’M ALONE - Approaching the 800m bumped and taken wider on the track.

CHEVAL LE VENT - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. Leaving the 300m when hanging in, shifted in abruptly. Trainer M Wilson was advised that a warning will be placed on the colt’s racing manners.

SNIP OF ROYALTY - Raced wide throughout.

SPIRITED SAINT – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey V Johnston stated that the gelding raced ungenerously when forced to race inside other runners. Jockey Johnston noted that the gelding was second up today and in her opinion may have felt the effects of its first up start. Jockey Johnston was also of the view that the gelding is better suited with blinkers. Trainer P Busuttin stated that the blinkers had been removed today after the gelding was slow to begin at its previous start, however, agreed with the comments of Jockey Johnston and advised that he would experiment with the addition of blinkers again. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 3: Cater Care Australia Maiden Plate – 1800m
1st – High Adversity 2nd – Casino Gold 3rd – Galiano 4th – Onemore For Wilson

LORD CHAMBERLAIN - Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post steadied when tightened for room. Jockey J Morris (METEORIC MOMENTS) was reprimanded for shifting in when not sufficiently clear.

CARRY FORWARD - Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey V Johnston stated that the gelding usually settles in a forward position. Jockey Johnston added that after being slow to begin today she elected to allow the gelding to stride forward in the back straight in an effort to obtain a position outside the leader. However, she was unable to push forward and cross ONEMORE FOR WILSON approaching the 900m which resulted in her being obliged to race 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey Johnston conceded that in hindsight she would have been better obtaining cover at the rear of the field and then improving into the race from the 800m onwards.

METEORIC MOMENTS - Slow to begin.

GALIANO - Raced wide throughout. App. S Eilbeck reported that she had difficulty riding her mount out during the home straight as the gelding hung in under pressure. Trainer I Savins will be advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

Race 4: Smiths Snackvend CG&E Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Boy Scout 2nd – Te Rux 3rd – Manhattan Rock 4th – Falzini

The start was delayed when WHO’S THAT CAT proved difficult to load. Trainer B Currie was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

Stewards considered objections lodged by M Wilson the trainer of REGAL TRADER (T Treichel) which finished 6th against TE RUX (Matthew Palmer) being declared the 2nd placegetter and MANHATTAN ROCK (M Hellyer) being declared the 3rd placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference leaving the 100m. On the evidence it was established that MANHATTAN ROCK did shift out at the same time that TE RUX shifted in resulting in REGAL TRADER having to be checked. Bearing in mind the fact that the incident occurred 70m from the winning post and the beaten margins of 1¾ lengths, Stewards could not be satisfied that REGAL TRADER would have beaten either MANHATTAN ROCK or TE RUX had the interference not occurred and therefore dismissed both protests.

WHO’S THAT CAT – Slow to begin.

BOY SCOUT – Slow to begin.

SPURSYN – Slow to begin.

REGAL TRADER – Upon straightening disappointed for a run to the inside of FALZINI and was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running. Leaving the 100m checked and lost ground when tightened for room between MANHATTAN ROCK and TE RUX both of which shifted ground. Jockey Matthew Palmer (TE RUX) was reprimanded and Jockey M Hellyer (MANHATTAN ROCK) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. As a result of this interference REGAL TRADER was then held up over the concluding stages.

STEERING – Near the 100m steadied from the heels of BOY SCOUT.

Race 5: Student Guild F&M Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Shadow Doll 2nd – Delvaux 3rd – Sheeda Gal 4th – Embrace

FLAMENCO GIRL - Raced ungenerously when placed in restricted room to the inside of SHEEDA GAL near the 900m and as a result lost ground.

DELVAUX - Near the 800m steadied to avoid the heels of MOSSALICIOUIS which shifted in marginally.

Race 6: Griffith University BenchMark 65 H’cap – 2200m
1st – Isadjourned 2nd – Outstrip 3rd – Phantom Caller 4th – Real Sting

REAL STING - Began awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.

INIQUITY - Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden towards the lead near the 1400m.

JO’S LUCK - Taken wider passing the 1200m and forced to race 3 wide without cover for the remainder.

ISADJOURNED – Steadied from heels near the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from the near side nostril. Trainer K Deacon will be advised that the mare must gallop 1000m to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.

KIRCHNER – Held up rounding the home turn. When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey A Spinks stated that at the mare’s previous start the intention was to take up a mid field position with cover. However, on that occasion the mare was inclined to over-race and as a result settled closer to the speed than anticipated. Jockey Spinks stated that similar instructions were issued today, however, from the awkward barrier he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated.

KAZAN - Upon straightening checked when tightened for room between INIQUITY which was weakening and CHANGE OF LUCK which was taken in by JUDGE RUBY which in turn was taken in by REAL STING which laid in upon straightening.

Race 7: Coffee Bug Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Superduty 2nd – Triple Jeopardy 3rd – Sansho Dayu 4th – Bay Rust

TRIPLE JEOPARDY - Held up during the early stages of the home straight.

BLETCHY BOY - Improved onto heels leaving the 200m and was held up until a point near the 50m.

THE LYNCHES - When questioned as to the performance, Jockey C Whiteley stated that despite being obliged to race wide for the majority of the race, the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer J Petersen was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to advise stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent. Mr Petersen stated that the gelding had worked and trialled well leading in to today’s event and he had expected a forward showing. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.

Jockey V Johnston (DUNRUNIN) will be interviewed at a later date regarding the use of her whip.

Race 8: Cola Cola Class 4 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Burleigh Bullet 2nd – Chilwero 3rd – More Than Money 4th – Barley Lover

NORTHERN ZOOM – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700m steadied from heels. Raced wide throughout.

RESPIRE – Near the 900m checked and lost ground when tightened for room.

BARLEY LOVER – Near the 900m steadied from the heels of BURLEIGH BULLET.

SUNSET HILLS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CHILWERO – Raced wide throughout.

MOMENT OF IMPACT – Raced wide throughout.

MORE THAN MONEY - Held up rounding the home turn.

MILITARY MANOR – Near the 400m shifted in and bumped the running rail and became awkward.

App. S Eilbeck (BURLEIGH BULLET) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting her mount to shift in near the 900m when insufficient clear of BARLEY LOVER (T Treichel) which was taken in onto RESPIRE (J Morris). As a consequence BARLEY LOVER had to be steadied and RESPIRE had to be checked and lost ground. App. Eilbeck was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to commence at the expiration of her previous suspension at midnight Saturday 15/08/15 and to expire midnight 30/08/15.
