Race 1: Gold Coast Show Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Winning Accord 2nd – Eight Chance* 3rd – American Hero 4th – Elizondo
EIGHT CHANCE – Slow to begin. When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey J. Lloyd stated that his instructions were to obtain cover today as the gelding had overraced at its previous 2 starts. Jockey Lloyd added that after being slow to begin the gelding commenced to overrace and in his effort to have it settle it lost further ground on the field. Jockey Lloyd further added that the gelding then travelled comfortably and when placed under pressure leaving the 800m commenced to improve and finished the race off well. Jockey Lloyd was of the opinion that the gelding would be well suited in a similar pattern to today over further ground. His explanation was noted.
ELIZONDO – Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn shifted out to improve and bumped MYBOYOLIVER. Laid in under pressure passing the 200m.
MYBOYOLIVER – Raced 3 wide without cover from the 700m. Bumped rounding home turn.
DASHLEY DUBH – Trainer T. Whittington reported that the gelding may have been shin sore following the race, in which case it would be sent for a spell. Mr Whittington will confirm his intentions after reassessing the gelding in the days subsequent to the race.
Race 2: MINC Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Snitzel’s Belle 2nd – Spirit Rock 3rd – Miranda Jane 4th – Elusive Legacy
Correct weight was also delayed to enable M. Cahill the rider of second placegetter SPIRIT ROCK to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner SNITZEL’S BELLE (G. Colless). After viewing the film jockey Cahill elected not to proceed with the protest and correct weight was declared.
ELUSIVE LEGACY – Slow to begin.
SPIRIT ROCK – Near the 1000m checked when tightened for room and lost ground. Jockey J. Morris (TWO FOR THE ROAD) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SNITZEL’S BELLE, which had to be steadied. SNITZEL’S BELLE then shifted in and bumped CRACK OF DAWN, which then shifted in causing the tightening to SPIRIT ROCK. Jockey Morris’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 5 September 2015 and expire midnight 18 September 2015.
SNITZEL’S BELLE – Near the 1000m had to be steadied away from the heels of TWO FOR THE ROAD and bumped CRACK OF DAWN.
CRACK OF DAWN – Near the 1000m bumped by SNITZEL’S BELLE and became unbalanced for a short distance.
VINTAGE CHOICE – Near the 800m had to be steadied when tightened for room by SNITZEL’S BELLE, which laid in. Momentarily held up in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 3: Pickles Auction BenchMark 75 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Hora Sexta 2nd – Billabong Bird 3rd – Kid Tycoon 4th – Torbay
BILLABONG BIRD – Slow to begin.
UNION – Leaving the 500m had to be checked after being brushed by TORBAY and then shifted in making contact with the running rail and as a result lost significant ground. At a subsequent inquiry stewards found that HORA SEXTA shifted in marginally making slight contact with TORBAY, which in turn shifted in and bumped UNION. After HORA SEXTA relieved the pressure TORBAY continued to lay in on top of UNION further crowding that runner. Stewards could not be satisfied that the actions of J. Byrne (HORA SEXTA) or C. Whiteley (TORBAY) were careless and as a result took no action.
TORBAY – Leaving the 500m when brushed by HORA SEXTA shifted in and bumped UNION and then continued to lay in for a short distance thereafter. When asked to comment on the performance jockey C. Whiteley reported that he was not overly disappointed with the gelding’s performance considering it was up in class today.
AVALANCHES – App S. Polo reported the gelding overraced in the early and middle stages and was unable to be restrained despite her efforts. App Polo added that the gelding failed to respond to her riding leaving the 500m and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Bailey expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance and indicated that he would remove the blinkers at its next start in an attempt to have the gelding ridden more conservatively. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 4.

GROBBELAAR – Near the 1800m had to be steadied when tightened for room by PHANTOM CALLER, which was taken in by PER MILLE (App R. Payne). App Payne was reprimanded. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia and to have cast an off hind plate. The stable representative was advised that a veterinary clearance with the results of an ECG must be produced and the gelding must perform satisfactorily in an official trial before racing again.
PHANTOM CALLER – Approaching the 400m shifted out to improve and bumped PER MILLE.
PER MILLE – Bumped approaching 400m.

ALKIPPE – Connections advise the mare will be ridden just off the speed with cover today. Jockey A. Spinks reported that it was not his intention to lead however, after beginning well he was not inclined to overly restrain the mare in a 900m race and as a consequence settled outside the leader.
