Race 2: Birkbecks Jewellers QTIS 3yo C&G Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – El Toro Loco 2nd – Stella Ombra 3rd – Hope Island 4th – Amber Lights

EL TORO LOCO – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: Men of Business Maiden Plate – 1300m
1st – Drill 2nd – Rockleigh 3rd – Miss Oberon 4th – Lips Like Jagger

The start was initially delayed when, in the process of mounting, DRILL reared resulting in App. N Masuda suffering an injury to his face. After being examined by the ambulance officers App. Masuda was stood down from his remaining engagements and subsequently replaced by App. B Ainsworth. DRILL underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when MISS OBERON proved difficult to load. In this process the mare dislodged and kicked Jockey G Goold who was later examined by the club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

CARNECAR, when fractious in the barriers, dislodged Jockey Matthew Palmer. CARNECAR underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.
Jockey Palmer was examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. Trainer Ms R Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. Began awkwardly. Steadied near the 1000m.

BLUE STAR - Blundered shortly after the start after being bumped by CARNECAR.

SUPERIOR SUN - Near 1000m improved onto heels and when being steadied shifted out.

SAGA MISS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced when taken wider by another runner near the 1000m. When questioned as to his riding rounding the home turn and in the early stage of the straight, App. S Payne stated that his intention was to follow CARNECAR to the outside of the field. However, after CARNECAR shifted out forward of him SAGA MISS commenced to lay in and as a result he elected to allow the filly to shift back to the inside to secure clear running. App. Payne added that he allowed the filly to shift back in to the fence instead of securing an available run between LIPS LIKE JAGGER and CARNECAR because the filly whilst continuing to lay in was improving its position. Therefore he was reluctant to stop riding and straighten the filly at this point in an effort to obtain the run that was available between LIPS LIKE JAGGER and CARNECAR. Stewards noted the explanation.

VERBIER - Inconvenienced when taken wider by another runner near the 1000m. Raced wide from that point onwards.

LIPS LIKE JAGGER - Inconvenienced when taken wider by another runner near the 1000m. Held up for clear running passing the 400m.

COUNTING CARDS - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ASPEN STREET - Near 1000m checked when tightened for room by FUSI FOX which shifted in and away from DRILL (B Ainsworth). At a subsequent inquiry Stewards noted that FUSI FOX which was having its first race start was inclined to race greenly at that point. Nonetheless App. B Ainsworth was issued with a reprimand for shifting in when not fully clear of FUSI FOX.

FUSI FOX - Raced greenly throughout. Leaving the 600m shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail and lost ground.

Race 4: Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Snapper Rocks 2nd – Perisha 3rd – Amazing Rosais 4th – War Front

SNAPPER ROCKS - Bumped on jumping away. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

ALFIE JUNIOR - Bumped on jumping away. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey S Galloway stated that despite travelling well in the early and middle stages, the gelding was under pressure leaving the 600m and finished off the race fairly. Jockey Galloway was of the view that with today’s top weight of 59kgs, the gelding failed to handle the short back-up from its last start one week ago.

MAJESTIC SOUND - Raced wide during the early stages before striding forward to obtain the lead near the 1200m. App. B Ainsworth reported that the gelding hung out for the majority of the race which prevented her from riding with her usual vigour in the home straight.

RESTRICTED - Near the 900m steadied from heels.

PERISHA - Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

Jockey G Goold (WAR FRONT) was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the number of permitted occasions prior to the 100m.

FUSINA - Raced wide for the majority of the race.

GUNSMOKE - Jockey A Allen reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

TE RUX – When questioned as to the performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that he was unable to obtain cover in the early stages and as a result the gelding over-raced despite his efforts, outside the leader for the majority of the race. Jockey Griffin was of the view that this had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s performance as it had previously performed best when able to be ridden with cover.

BARAKULA – When questioned regarding the performance, Trainer J Dann stated that the gelding failed to handle the wet conditions following a downpour immediately prior to the race. Mr Dann noted that the gelding had previously performed poorly when racing on a soft track.

Race 6: McLauchlan & Partners Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – On Demand 2nd – Georgio 3rd – Tani Tei En 4th – The Lynches

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event.

JAYELEM – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

DELVAUX - Began awkwardly and bumped CHICAGO. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey A Allen stated that the mare was forced to race in restricted room from the 600m to the 300m which prevented him from improving his position. For this reason he was not overly disappointed with the mare’s finishing effort. When questioned if there was an opportunity to improve his position when the tempo slowed leaving the 800m Jockey Allen stated that he was specifically instructed to provide the mare with cover until rounding the home turn as it had performed best when ridden in this manner. A swab sample was taken.

CHICAGO - Bumped on jumping away and became unbalanced. Taken wider by another runner leaving the 1000m. Raced wide from that point onwards.

RAJA MISHAL’AL - Over-raced during the early stages.

TRICKY JET - Near the 900m improved onto the heels of GEORGIO and shifted out.

I’M ALONE - When questioned as to the performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that the gelding had to be ridden vigorously during the early stages to obtain a forward position. Jockey Griffin added that he was obliged to continue to ride the gelding along in the middle stages to maintain its position and it failed to respond when placed under pressure and proved disappointing.

Race 7: Von Bibra Auto Village F & M Class 3 Plate – 1200m
1st – Star Drop 2nd – Amajill 3rd – Lead Husson 4th – Had Me At Hello

CENTAURAINE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CASINOMAC – When questioned as to the performance Jockey D Griffin stated that the mare raced strongly in the lead but he was still disappointed with its finishing effort. Jockey Griffin was of the view that the mare failed to carry today’s impost of 59kgs.

1st – Starocity 2nd – American Hussler 3rd – Out Late 4th – Red Letter Day

Jockey Galloway was of the view that the gelding failed to handle today’s soft conditions. Jockey Galloway noted that the gelding had been disappointing in a trial leading into today’s race in similar conditions. Trainer D Kelly confirmed Jockey Galloway’s comments. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.

SUKPERFAST SAKI - Jockey D Griffin reported that the gelding again over-raced when leading today. Jockey Griffin added that in his opinion the gelding had come to the end of its current preparation.
