Following the cancellation of the Flemington and Morphettville meetings, the Gold Coast meeting was allocated amended start times:

Race 1 – 1.10pm
Race 2 – 1.45pm
Race 3 – 2.23pm
Race 4 – 3.05pm
Race 5 – 3.41pm
Race 6 – 4.25pm
Race 7 – 5.04pm

Public announcements were made to this effect.

As Jockey N Seymour was indisposed through illness, rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Optima Wealth Solutions QTIS 3YO H’cap – 900m
1st – Tibrogargan Miss 2nd – High Cost 3rd – Ra Ra Epic 4th – Frequendly

The start was delayed when JERRY’S WITNESS proved difficult to load.

BRIGADOON SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 700m shifted in and bumped the running rail and then became unbalanced for a short distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off fore cannon consistent with being galloped on.

MIA MADALENA – Slow to begin.

MEMPHIS GIRL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

App. S Eilbeck (TIBROGARGAN MISS) was reprimanded for using her whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 2: Optima Homes Class 1 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Brigliadoro 2nd – Witches Luck 3rd – O’Lynch 4th – Interim Approval

ELIZABETH’S DREAM – Slow to begin.

SO HOT – Attempted to buck in the early stages. Trainer E Ensby was advised that the gelding must compete in an official trial prior to its next race start. When questioned as to the performance Mr Ensby stated that in his opinion the gelding had come to the end of its current racing preparation and would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Jockey J Taylor (O’LYNCH) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 3: Mortgage Choice Hope Island Maiden Plate – 2200m
1st – Enemy’s Defeated 2nd – Scarlet Poet 3rd – Makas King Ruler 4th – Mr Malu

Connections advised that MAKAS KING RULER would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

The start was delayed when BERLINETTA proved difficult to load.

ENEMY’S DEFEATED - Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Passing the 1300m shifted wider on the track and was ridden forward to the lead near the 1000m.

HOAGY - Began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied from the heels of DIAMOND RACER and shifted wider on the track. Then allowed to improve forward to the lead near the 1500m.

REGULARITY - Began awkwardly. Upon straightening laid in and had to be steadied from the heels of MR MALU. Then continued to lay in for the remainder of the home straight.

NOTHING VENTURED – Began awkwardly.

GODWOOD - Slow to begin.

GAIN A LOT - Hampered by REGULARITY shortly after the start.

DIAMOND RACER - Raced wide during the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying signs of heat stress.

SCARLET POET – Over-raced during the early and middle stages before being allowed to improve forward to obtain the lead near the 800m.

THAT’S ENOUGH – Passing the 200m disappointed for a run. Then obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.

Race 4: Hupfeld Classic Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Larebil 2nd – Tide’s Out 3rd – Devil’s Fire 4th – Brilliant Sunset

PUT YOUR HANDS UP - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced fiercely in the early stages and then hung out from the 800m for the remainder of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

SHELLAC - Slow to begin. Forced extremely wide rounding the home turn.

STORMY DESTINY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running over the final 150m.

LAREBIL - Shortly after the start steadied and lost ground when tightened for room. Over-raced during the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

STORMY LEO - Obliged to race wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead.

SPLENDID STRYKER – Inclined to hang out during the middle stages and forced to race wide rounding the home turn.

TIDE’S OUT –Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

RITZY’S COMMAND – Forced extremely wide rounding the home turn. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

Jockey A Dykes (BENZOIN) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Jockey M Palmer (EVER THE OPTIMUS) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.




Race 5: Haley King BenchMark 75 H’cap – 900m
1st – Kudero 2nd – Flying Riddle 3rd – Bagger Chance 4th – Kolonga

CHARGE MISSILE - Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight to a point approaching the 100m.

DRAGON STREET - Held up rounding home turn.

MALACHITE - Held up rounding home turn.

FLYING RIDDLE - Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

ITALIAN STORM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled both nostrils and will incur a mandatory three month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.

App. M Cox (MALACHITE) was reprimanded for using her whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Jockey T Treichel (HYDRAZINE) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 6: Optima Land Development Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Rockleigh 2nd – Casino Century 3rd – Dormeuse 4th – Crimson Force

DORMEUSE - Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1200m shifted in and made contact with the running rail and then raced ungenerously in the early stages.

FORTUNATE FOUR - Slow to begin. Near the 1200m steadied and lost ground when tightened for room by CAN HE RAP which was taken in by SHUTTLE MISS.

CAN HE RAP - Approaching the 1200m hampered by SHUTTLE MISS which was taken in by CASINO CENTURY. As a result CAN HE RAP bumped FORTUNATE FOUR and had to be steadied.

SHUTTLE MISS - Approaching the 1200m inconvenienced by CASINO CENTURY which shifted in. Bumped on a number of occasions passing the 200m.

CRIMSON FORCE – Raced wide during the early stages.

ONE LUCKY SHEILA - Bumped on a number of occasions passing the 200m. Steadied from the heels of ROCKLEIGH over the concluding stages.

Jockey Matthew Palmer (CASINO CENTURY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1200m when not clear of SHUTTLE MISS which was taken in on to CAN HE RAP which in turn was taken in on to FORTUNATE FOUR. As a consequence FORTUNATE FOUR had to be steadied and lost ground. Jockey Matthew Palmer was suspended from riding in races for 9 days to commence midnight 27/12/2015 and to expire midnight 05/01/2016.

Race 7: Optima Group Class 3 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Silent Duke 2nd – Saint Hugo 3rd – Castanita 4th – Stradam

PHANTOM WHISPER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LOCHLEE and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

LOCHLEE – Bumped on jumping away.

FLYING CHARGER – Passing the 1000m commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from the heels of NEOMAGIC. Continued to over-race during the middle stages.

SPECIAL JAY – When questioned as to the performance, Jockey Matthew Palmer stated that the gelding travelled comfortably during the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure leaving the 500m failed to respond as expected and proved disappointing. Trainer D Kelly will be interviewed at a later date.
