GENERAL:
All entries in the Magic Millions 2YO & 3YO races were examined in the days prior to the race meeting.



Race 1: Marriott Surfers Paradise Magic Millions Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Wolf Cry 2nd – Havasay 3rd – Catch A Fire 4th – Giuliani

Trainer J Cummings was fined $200.00 for failing to scratch YATTARNA by the prescribed time.

Upon arriving behind the barriers TANGO ROCK underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off fore leg. TANGO ROCK was subsequently withdrawn by order of stewards at 11.36 a.m.. All monies invested on TANGO ROCK were ordered to be refunded. It was ordered that SPs would not be subject to deductions Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 11.36 a.m.:

6 cents in the dollar for the win - # 2 (WOLF CRY)
3 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #2 (WOLF CRY)
8 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - # 9 (HAVASAY)
8 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - # 13 (CATCH A FIRE)

Trainer M. Kent will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to TANGO ROCK racing again.

The start was further delayed when WOLF CRY cast its off fore leg. The colt was removed and when being examined by the veterinary surgeon cast its off fore plate. During the delay WHO’S A STAR reared in the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary examination.
Both WOLF CRY and WHO’S A STAR were both subsequently cleared to race.

ZIZOU WARRIOR – Slow to begin.

WITH PRIDE – Slow to begin.

BOURBON ROAD – Jumped away awkwardly.

WHO’S A STAR – Jumped away awkwardly.

SAGATONA – Bumped shortly after the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had hit its off hind bumper during the race.

CREDIT CARD MISS – Overraced in the early stages.

SHOW COMMAND – Inside the 300m had to be checked when tightened for room between runners.

NARANJA – Laid in under pressure in the straight.


Race 2: Sky Racing Magic Millions Country Cup – 1200m
1st – War Jet 2nd – Three Sheets 3rd – Star Wars 4th – Real Favulous

ZINDZELA – As K. O’Hara was late arriving on course stewards permitted C. Symons to be substituted as the rider.

The start was delayed when WAR JET got a hind leg cast and was removed from the barriers. WAR JET underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

EQUISSENTIAL – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

OL’ BROWN EYES – Near the 800m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of BURLEIGH BULLET.

THREE SHEETS – Near the 800m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room.

MESTALLA – Raced wide throughout.

BORIS BADENOV – Raced wide throughout.

REGAL TRADER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

WAR JET – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near fore leg consistent with being galloped on.

REAL FAVULOUS – Lost an off hind plate in running.


Race 3: Magic Millions QTIS Open Plate – 1300m
1st – Buffering 2nd – Mister Booze 3rd – Steel Zip 4th –Spur Le Jouer

BUFFERING – After arriving on course the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

SAGA OF THE STORM – The filly was examined by the veterinary surgeon after arriving on course and cleared to start. Began awkwardly.

SIEGFRIED – Near the 900m when racing strongly had to be steadied from the heels of STEEL ZIP.

MR JETSET – Lost an off fore plate in running.

B. Stewart the rider of MISTER BOOZE was fined $1,000.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards took into account B. Stewart’s poor record in regard to this breach.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective.


Race 4: Magic Millions Fillies & Mares H’Cap – 1300m
1st – I Am Zelady 2nd – Private Secretary 3rd – Tina Melina 4th – Queen Of Kariba

The start was delayed when TINA MELINA became fractious in the barriers and as a result the barrier blanket became loose. The horse was removed and when the barrier blanket could not be refitted the horse was reloaded and jumped away without the assistance of the barrier blanket.

PRIVATE SECRETARY – As J. McDonald was overweight stewards permitted T. Angland to be substituted as the rider. Jockey McDonald’s explanation was accepted. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide throughout.

ECHO GAL – Restless in the barriers, jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

REAL SURREAL – Slow to begin.

QUEEN OF KARIBA – Slow to begin.

MISS COVER GIRL – Held up in the early stages of the straight. Raced wide throughout.

PEACE FORCE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

TUKIYO – Raced wide throughout.

KALANDULA – Raced wide throughout.


Race 5: Crown Resorts Magic Millions Trophy (Stayers Cup) – 1800m
1st – Tinto 2nd – Feltre 3rd – Centre Pivot 4th – Worthy Cause

BLACK JAG – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

HOT SAGA – Slow to begin.

OUR BOY NICHOLAS – Slow to begin.

GLENDARA - Approaching the 1400m had to be steadied when tightened for room between TRAKSTAR and BLACK JAG, which shifted in. Jockey J. Velazquez was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

CENTRE PIVOT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until after passing the 300m.

R. Wiggins the rider of FELTRE was fined $1,000.00 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. In assessing penalty stewards were not of the opinion that his failure had a material affect on the placings.


Race 6: Jewel Magic Millions Cup (R.L.) – 1400m
1st – Lucky Hussler 2nd – Strawberry Boy 3rd – Baligari 4th – Murt The Flirt

BULL POINT – Trainer D. Vandyke advised intention will be to race as close to the speed if possible if circumstances permit. The horse settled to the rear of the field and raced wide throughout.

ILLUSTRIOUS LAD – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages and then had to be checked when tightened for room near the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that leaving the 1000m jockey G. Schofield (AUSSIES LOVE SPORT) eased and shifted in causing initial tightening to ILLUSTRIOUS LAD. Shortly thereafter AUSSIES LOVE SPORT was taken in by SPURTONIC (T. Berry), which was taken in by BACHMAN (K. McEvoy). Bearing in mind the racing manners of ILLUSTRIOUS LAD stewards were not of the view that this interference could be attributed to the carelessness of any one rider. Nonetheless jockeys Schofield and McEvoy were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination of ILLUSTRIOUS LAD revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress.

MURT THE FLIRT – Steadied near the 900m when placed in restricted room.

HARADA BAY – Restrained to avoid heels passing the 600m.

FONTELINA – Near the 400m when weakening had to be steadied from the heels of GRACIOUS PROSPECT. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SPURTONIC – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was eased down over the concluding stages, revealed the gelding to be short striding in front.

GRACIOUS PROSPECT – Raced wide throughout.

OPEN BOOK – Raced wide throughout.

BACHMAN - Raced wide throughout.

TESTASHADOW – Raced wide throughout.

J. Bowditch the rider of BALIGARI was fined $500.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.


Race 7: Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (R.L.) – 1400m
1st – Mahuta 2nd – Single Gaze 3rd – Egyptian Symbol 4th – Flippant

EGYPTIAN SYMPOL – Shifted in near the 1300m and made contact with another runner. Upon straightening was disappointed for a run and was then held up until obtaining clear running near the 250m.

SINGLE GAZE – Bumped near the 1300m.

SAGARONNE – Near the 750m had to be checked away from heels when improving inside another runner. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the near fore leg.

FLIPPANT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

MADOTTI – Raced wide throughout.

SIR BACCHUS – Raced wide throughout.


Race 8: Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic (R.L.) - 1200m
1st – Capitalist 2nd – Nikitas 3rd – Candika 4th – Niccolance

CLARO EL BANCO – Trainer J. Petch advised the gelding would be ridden further back in the field and would attempt to obtain cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Jumped away awkwardly.

JUST ORM – Trainer T. Gollan advised the intention would be to obtain cover behind the leaders if circumstances permit. Raced outside the leader in the early stages. For some distance passing the 800m was placed in restricted room to the inside of HIGHLAND BEAT and eventually had to be eased. A short distance later was taken wider and raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the race. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened over the final 300m, revealed lacerations to the off hind leg.

ZELADY’S NIGHT OUT – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

FARAWAY TOWN – Shortly after the start was bumped heavily by another runner.

PUNISHING – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped another runner. Raced wide for the majority.

NICCOLANCE – Steadied from heels making the home turn.

SLUMBER PARTY – Raced wide without cover throughout.

RAINY DAY WOMAN – Jockey M. Payne reported her saddle slipped back placing her at a disadvantage for the majority of the race.

D. Lane the rider of HIGHLAND BEAT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that for a considerable distance passing the 800m he unnecessarily tightened the running of JUST ORM and CAPITALIST. D. Lane’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 9 January 2016 and expire midnight 19 January 2016.


Race 9: Myer Magic Millions Sprint – 1100m
1st – Husson Eagle 2nd – Wild Rain 3rd – Le Cordon Bleu 4th – Temple Of Boom

KING’S TROOP – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

WEINHOLT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

THE STOREMAN – Had to be eased when tightened for room shortly after the start between STRATURBO and DIDNTCOSTALOT, which shifted out.

ADEBISI – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority.

TIBROGARGAN MISS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
