Jockey J. Byrne (RAIDO) was fined $200 for breaching AR137A(5)(a)(ii) (10 times).

GOLDEN SHOES – Stewards sought an explanation from App E. Ljung regarding her riding of the gelding in the home straight. App Ljung explained from an inside barrier the gelding did not muster any early speed and after travelling a short distance was a clear last. She added that soon after straightening GOLDEN SHOES commenced to make ground however, became awkwardly placed at the heels of PUFFS GIRL. She further added that she then attempted to shift to the inside of that runner but again became awkwardly placed at the heels of GRACEVILLE and as a result was unable to fully test the gelding in the home straight. Stewards noted her explanation.

RAIDO – Trainer T. Gollan was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding today as compared to its most recent starts. Mr Gollan explained that he was most disappointed with the geldings race at Ipswich recently and in his view it may have choked down in that race and that was the reason it compounded badly over the final stages. He added that he removed the blinkers for today and added a tongue tie, which in his opinion was the reason why the horse improved.

The start was further delayed when SHARPAMAL which was fractious in the barriers, reared and sat down, was removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared unfit to race. Trainer H. Page will be advised that SHARPAMAL will be required to obtain a barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

Brooker  explained that she anticipated being in a forward position but when the horse was slow to begin she was reluctant to ride with any vigour as the horse has a tendency to overrace when back in the field.  She further added that she was prevented from fully testing the horse in the home straight and was unable to ride it out in her normal manner due to the horse hanging out quite badly in the home straight and for this reason she elected to ride hands and heels and the horse finished the race off very strongly.

MADAME DE BAN – Jumped awkwardly.

THREE POINTS – Jumped awkwardly. Tightened for room approaching the winning post on the first occasion. Shifted out under pressure near the 200m taking MADAME DE BAN out onto SHE GOES POP. App A. Sewell (THREE POINTS) was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.

PERILOUS LOVE – Jockey J. Orman explained that his mount did not appreciate the firm surface today.

WAR BABY – Stewards questioned App B. Thornton regarding his riding of WAR BABY, in particular the reason for him allowing the horse to improve from the 600m when the pace was strong. App Thornton explained that WAR BABY raced keenly during the race as it was stepping up in distance up in distance from its most recent start and for this reason when LEPRECHAUN LAD commenced to give ground he elected to ride forward from the 500m.  Stewards advised App Thornton that he had erred in allowing his mount to improve at that point however, they did not feel this error was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the Rules.

PILLARA –Apost race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg and to have tied up behind. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to the mare starting again. Lost the off hind plate in running.

RACE 9: Book Tickets @ GCTC.COM.AU BenchMark 90 Handicap – 1200m

Prior to correct weight stewards viewed the official patrol footage to establish whether FIERY HEIGHTS had been afforded a fair start as just prior to the start being effected the horse put its head down resulting in J. Lloyd losing the use of his reins and as a result he was in the process of attempting to dismount.   As this occurred simultaneously as the start was effected and as the stewards were of the opinion that FIERY HEIGHTS was therefore riderless, it was subsequently declared a non-runner.  All monies invested on FIERY HEIGHTS were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 5.27  p.m.:-

8 cents in the dollar for the win - #3 (PERFECT DARE)
8 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #3 (PERFECT DARE)
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter – #9 (MISHANI EL LOBO)
