GRAND ASSET – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MADAM – Slow to begin.

RAZZY – Commenced to hang in badly after leaving the 800m and continued to do so for the remainder. Jockey M. McGillivray reported to stewards that after his mount hung in badly his saddle shifted near the 400m, which placed him at a significant disadvantage and as a result he did not pressure his mount in the home straight. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that the mare must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

YAEL – Near the 600m had to be checked to avoid the heels of RAZZY, which was hanging in.

SQUALL – Near the 500m was severely checked when tightened for room by RAZZY, which hung in badly despite the efforts of its rider.

He further stated that he had advised the trainer that the gelding would be better suited stepping up in distance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 3: Lone Star Rib House QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 900m

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey M. McGillivray the rider of the third placegetter GODFATHERS GIRL to view the film to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against ARROW EXPRESS (App R. Goldsbury) being declared the winner. After doing so jockey McGillivray declined to proceed.

COOL ATTITUDE – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Cahill reported to stewards that in his view the filly may have resented racing in earmuffs, which he attributed to the poor performance.

TEQUILA BOOM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

SHE ZA BOSS – Began awkwardly and a short distance later was severely tightened for room. When afforded an opportunity to comment on the performance jockey R. Stewart stated that after beginning only fairly he was unable to obtain a forward position as intended and settled further back than anticipated. He added that the filly had shown good early speed in its recent trials and as a result he was expecting to settle closer to the speed and when unable to do so this may have attributed to its performance. He further stated that the filly would be better suited once it steps up in distance at its future starts. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a routine swab sample was taken.

DULCIE TIE – Bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced when crowded for room at the start.

QUANYIN – Approaching the 700m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room. Raced wide throughout.

HERMITAGE – Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied from the heels of AMERICAN CAT, which shifted in.

KIDLAT – Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of HERMITAGE. Tailed off and finished a distant last. Stable representative advised that a warning would be placed on the colt due to being uncompetitive.

NAMIB – Inconvenienced over the concluding stages by NASHVILLE SKYLINE, which shifted out under pressure.

RACE 7: Lone Star Rib House Cup BenchMark 70 Handicap – 1800m

FACE LIKE THUNDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance jockey J. Lloyd stated that after being slow to begin he was unable to obtain a forward position as intended. He added that when the pace slackened in the middle stages near the 800m he was obliged to race behind other runners and was unable to improve. He further stated that after being held up approaching the home turn he was then able to obtain clear running over the final 300m however the mare failed to quicken and found the line only fairly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

CASHINKO – Overraced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from heels near the 1000m.

GODZONE GIRL – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey J. Orman explained that it was not his intention to leadas he had been instructed to attempt to obtain a position with cover. He added that after beginning from a wide barrier he was unable to obtain a position with cover and therefore elected to improve forward to the outright lead. Stewards noted his explanation.

DANSU – Near the 600m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

OUR ROCKY – Near the 600m had to be checked after improving onto heels. Over the concluding stages had to be checked when tightened for room between JOMARS ELEMENT and HAPPY GO LUCKY, both of which shifted ground. As stewards were satisfied that there was no carelessness from any rider the matter was reported as a racing incident.

TABBING – Hung out rounding the home turn.

HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Held up rounding the home turn. When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey L. Rolls explained that when the gelding has raced over longer distances has previously settled closer to the speed. He added that today over 1200m the gelding was always going to settle further back as the gelding is unable to muster the necessary speed to obtain a forward position. Stewards noted his comments.
