General
Following further rain after the scratching deadline at 7.30am the track was downgraded to a Heavy 9 at 11.35am.

Race 1: BOXING DAY RACEDAY BOOK NOW! Maiden Plate 900 metres

AONACH MOR – Shifted out shortly after the start. Jockey A Allen was fined $300 for use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100 metres which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

BIG TALK – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

COALBANK CAVALRY – Laid out under pressure over the final 150 metres.

KEEPMOVING FORWARD – Raced five wide without cover.

SOCIALEYES – Prior to entering the mounting yard had to have its off hind plate refitted. Raced four wide without cover without.

SAN ANTONIO – Was fractious in the tie up stall and kicked out prior to being saddled. Subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Over the final 150 metres was inconvenienced by COALBANK CAVALRY and forced wider on the course.

OUR OPINION – Passing the 100 metres apprentice J Lloyd lost the use of his off side rein for a short distance.

SPRING NYMPH – Bumped on jumping. Rider S Galloway reported that his mount was unable to muster speed in the early stages however the mare finished the race off quite strongly and in his opinion would be better suited in races over a further distance than that of today’s event.

TINY TEE – Slow to begin and was bumped. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor was fined $400 for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100 metres which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)


Race 2: CHRISTIAN SHEATHER Maiden Plate 1100 metres

REACHFORTHESTARS – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after the start. Rider A Mallyon reported that in his opinion the mare did not appreciate todays heavy track condition.


Race 3: SHERI COOK Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres

The start of this race was delayed by 1 minute when BELLARINE proved difficult to load.

EPICURIOUS – Slow to begin.

ICONISTA – Slow to muster speed.


Race 4: STEVE COOK Class 5 Plate 1100 metres

No racing incidents.

Race 5: MARLENE COOK Class 2 Handicap 900 metres

DARK SON – Slow to begin.

TOURMASTER – Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 250 metres.

MILITARY KINGS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

CORAJILLO – Blundered shortly after the start.

WHISTLIN' ARROW – Slow to begin.

Race 6: ROSS COOK BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1800 metres

THATFRIDAYFEELING – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly crowding runners to its outside.

I'M CALLIN' DIBS – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. Was ridden forward passing the 1600 metres to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres.

BOMBAY NIGHTS – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarters by RIGHTEOUSNESS and became unbalanced. Apprentice E Atkinson was reprimanded for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100 metres which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

HELSUN – Crowded on jumping and lost ground.

RIGHTEOUSNESS – Crowded for room on jumping and lost ground.

MADAM MAHAL – Began awkwardly.


Race 7: COASTAL TIPPER HIRE BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1200 metres

PHABENI – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ROCKY NUGGET – Slow to begin. After settling in a rearward position, the gelding failed to maintain contact with the main body of the field and at a point passing 600 metres apprentice J Lloyd desisted from pressuring his mount as he felt there may be something amiss with ROCKY NUGGET. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Cornish was advised that gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

TRAMONTO – After passing the 100 metres rider A Mallyon, whilst riding his mount along, became in close proximity to ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM and whilst using his whip, his whip accidently made contact with ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM’S rider C Taylor.

MARY VALLEY – After leading for the majority of the event, commenced to weaken upon straightening and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor explained that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages however in his opinion failed to let down when placed under pressure due to the heavy track conditions. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to have a poor post-race recovery. A post-race swab was taken. Trainer S Ryan advised Stewards that in light of today’s performance it would be his intention to send the filly for a spell.

Race 8: COASTAL TIPPER HIRE Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres


MISSILE MANIA – Held up for a short distance approaching the home turn.

GO DARCY – Crowded for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

FAST THINKER – Rider T Wolfgram was fined $400 for use of the whip 16 times in total which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(5)

PICTON – Was bumped passing the 500 metres and forced wider on the course by MISSILE MANIA which shifted out to improve.

VOLFONI – Bumped on jumping. Rider L Rolls was reprimanded for use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100 metres which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

STONELEIGH JACKSON – Began awkwardly.
