GENERAL
Apprentice N Fazackerley was fined the sum of $300 for having possession of a mobile phone in the jockeys’ room.
Race 1: AMALGAMATED PAINTING SERVICES QTIS 2YO MDN PLT -1200m
FILTHY RICH – Performed below market expectations – Rider L Rolls reported the colt raced flat today and may not have handled today’s heavy surface. Trainer D Schmidt reported that FILTHY RICH would now be gelded and sent for a spell after today’s performance.
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Slow to begin.
WATACHOICE – A post-race veterinary examination identified mild heat stress.
Race 2: AMALGAMATED WINDOW REPLACEMENT CL 6 PLT - 1800m
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Near the 600m bumped by WILLIAM which shifted in marginally. Held up from the 500m until passing the 300m. Rider M Potgieter reported that his mount was left flat footed after being held up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WILLIAM – Laid in near the 600m and bumped with CLASS OF ROYALTY.
RIVAL MO – Declared a late scratching at 10.45 am after experiencing transport difficulties en route to the course.
ROSSMAY – Made the crossing near the 1600m awkwardly.
Race 3: JP FLYING MDN HCP - 2200m
ANACHEEVA LAD – Difficult to load. Trainer P Kings was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. At the start, shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Over the concluding stages, moved in over the heels of REDENZO BULLET which shifted out.
THRASHER – Laid out near the 200m.
BOAT HARBOUR – Near the 1800m, steadied when momentarily crowded by CAPTAIN RIDDLEE (J Taylor) which shifted in. Rider J Taylor was advised to exercise far greater in similar circumstances.
REDENZO BULLET – Crowded at the start between BELLICE and TORQUE TO ROMAN which was carried in by ANACHEEVA LAD. Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and take the lead passing the 1600m.
TORQUE TO ROMAN – Crowded at the start by ANACHEEVA LAD which shifted in.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Heavy (9).
Race 4: AMALGAMATED BALUSTRADING CL 4 PLT – 1400m
SIDEKISS - A post-race veterinary examination identified mild heat stress.
REDENZO GAL – Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field to gain cover at the 900m.
Race 5: AMALGAMATED WATERPROOFING MDN PLT - 1300m
LEO THE LION – Raced wide in the early stages before taking up a position outside the leader near the 800m.
ADELAIDE'S DIAMOND – Raced wide with cover. Carried wider and rounding the home turn by ANARCHY. Approaching the 400m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ANARCHY.
ANARCHY – Hung out rounding the home turn. Rider J Taylor reported that his mount raced greenly and hung out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Cowan was advised that a warning a would be placed on its record in relation to hanging. Trainer T Cowan reported that he would now experiment with gear.
BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Raced wide without cover.
OFF ROAD – Began awkwardly. Near the 1100m, had to be steadied away from the heels of CREDIBLE before shifting out and bumping with ADELAIDE’S DIAMOND.
MOONLIGHT ECLIPSE – Slow to begin.
ORDERS – Trainer K Hickmott advised Stewards that he instructed rider S Galloway to use the whip sparingly through the event. Near the 1100m, was crowded and had to be steadied off the heels of CREDIBLE which was carried in by SCENIC RIM (A Chau). Rider A Chau pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 26th December 2020 and to expire on 3rd January 2021. When assessing penalty, Stewards took into account Jockey Chau’s record, guilty plea and low degree of carelessness.
Race 6: AMALGAMATED ABSEILING SERVICES BM 62 HCP - 900m
SHE'S CHOOSIE – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start by MAGIC DESERT MOON.
ROTHABYE – Rider B Pengelly stated that the gelding failed to travel throughout and was eased down in the home straight. Trainer K Hickmott was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings due to its poor performance. Trainer K Hickmott added that he would now step the gelding up in his distance.
LYTAFYRE – Shifted out at the start and bumped with BAY OF DRAGONS. Trainer W Hulbert reported that the gelding failed to handle the Heavy (9) track. Rider J Guthmann-Chester was fined $800 for failing to ride his mount out over the concluding stages which in the opinion of the stewards, materially affected the result and cost LYTAFYRE 4th place.
MISHANI REBEL – Raced wide without cover.
CORDONED – Rider S Cormack reported that CORDONED failed to handle the Heavy (9) track.
INKBLOT – Raced wide with cover. Laid in throughout.
MAGIC DESERT MOON – Shortly after the start, had to be steadied off the heels of BAY OF DRAGONS which shifted out.
BAY OF DRAGONS – Bumped with LYTAFYRE at the start.
Race 7: AMALGAMATED CONCRETE REPAIR SPECIALISTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HCP - 1200m
RISALDAR – Declared a late scratching at 10.45 am after experiencing transport difficulties en route to the course.
THE DARK – Began awkwardly. Jockey J Morris was fined the sum of $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
LET'S CONQUER – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room to the inside of TOFFIE LADY which laid in. Rider T Wolfgram reported that in his opinion the gelding would be more effective in distances further than todays event.
MAKEUP – Performed below market expectations. Rider J Guthmann-Chester could offer no excuse for the performance. Trainer G Doughty could offer no explanation of the disappointing performance as the mare had previously won on a heavy track, however, would report back to Stewards on the condition of MAKEUP in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
TOFFIE LADY – Laid in throughout.
XUANNU – Raced wide without cover.
WANTED MISS – Began awkwardly and steadied shortly after the start.
NAKANAI – (12YO) Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start.
Race 8: AMALGAMATED BUILDING REFURBISHMENT BM 68 HCP – 1300m
VIVENDO IL SOGNO – Laid out in the home straight.
MERLIN'S MAGIC – Shifted out at the start and bumped with RIVA CAPRI.
RIVA CAPRI – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover.
SUGAR ZONE – Raced wide with cover. Near the 350m when weakening, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STAY SMART which shifted out and away from VIVENDO IL SOGNO (E Atkinson), which had improved to the inside of STAY SMART. Apprentice E Atkinson was reprimanded as a result.
THE BIG EATER – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of STAY SMART.
