GENERAL
 
Following a track inspection prior to the scratching deadline, it was determined that the starting points for the races over 1200m and 1800m had not recovered sufficiently following rainfall during the week to be satisfactory for racing. As a consequence, the decision was made for Race 3, the 1200m event, to be started from the course proper rather than the chute, and the distance for race 4 to be shortened from 1800m to 1750m (approx).
 
Race 1: MECCA BAH QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 900 metres
 
CRUISING BILL – Began awkwardly losing ground. Near the 550m steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. Laid in for the majority and approaching the home turn was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. On returning to scale jockey Meehan reported that his saddle shifted on jumping which placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
 
MISHANI HURRICANE – Began awkwardly.
 
BOLD STORM – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m was tightened for room and checked when racing to the inside of MY MISS MOONPIE which shifted in and away from MISHANI HURRICANE despite the efforts of its rider. Laid out rounding the home turn and in doing so bumped another runner.
 
GRACIEDE – Began awkwardly.
 
RUN PEGGY RUN – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: BOHLE BARN QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1300 metres
 
 
PROUD OF YOU – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.
 
BINDING – Near the 1000m was bumped and became unbalanced when racing to the inside of PROUD OF YOU which shifted in whilst racing ungenerously.
 
HONKYTONK DIVA – After being slow to begin, was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader approaching the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHALOOK – Laid out marginally over the final 150m and as a result was unable to be fully tested by its rider after bumping with HONKYTONK DIVA on a number of occasions.
 
 
Race 3: COMMERCIAL KITCHEN COMPANY Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
SEA OF QI – Raced wide until a point leaving the 800m. Following the event it was noted that Jockey P Payne had injured his right thumb during the event, however declined attention from the attending ambulance officials.
 
AGRO AGAIN – Near the 150m, was forced to shift in abruptly when awkwardly placed at the heels of ALIBOOG which shifted in under pressure. Jockey A Fancourt the rider of ALIBOOG was advised to exercise more care. Hung out for the majority of the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer D Murphy was advised a warning would be issued against the geldings racing manners.
 
ALIBOOG – Near the 800m, momentarily raced in restricted room. After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained by its rider in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover passing the 1000m.
 
BEYOND THE SEA – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and was steadied.
 
MOONSHINE EXPRESS – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and was steadied.
 
 
Race 4: SOCIAL EATING HOUSE Class 1 Handicap 1750 metres
 
HANDBALL – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground.
 
IMPEL GAZELLE – Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and as a result was held up for a short distance. Jockey J Guthmann-Chester was fined $200 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
SHOPPING WISE – Jockey N Callow reported that the gelding was reluctant to stretch out at any stage during the event and from the 1000m despite his urgings commenced to yield ground, and for that reason he elected to ease the horse out of the race at this point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Booth was advised that in light of todays performance, the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing.
 
AGENT OF MAYHEM – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority. Jockey C Robertson was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
TEE AMICI – Began awkwardly. Jockey J Huxtable could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
WELL WELL WELL– Raced wide until a point near the 1300m.
 
GO MILLO – Jockey A Allen was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
 
Race 5: KURRAWA SURF CLUB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 900 metres
 
CHEVY NOVA – Slow to begin.
 
DEEP STATE – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start and lost ground. Momentarily raced in restricted room rounding the home turn. A post-race examination of the gelding revealed lacerations to both hindlegs consistent with having been galloped on.
 
MASTER RED – Raced wide throughout. On returning to scale, Jockey N Callow reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out during the middle stages and as a result shifted wider on the track. He added that in the home straight the gelding commenced to race more tractably and was able to make steady ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
ARROW EXPRESS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. The trainer’s representative for trainer Neil Hocking was advised that he would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it next racing.
 
 
Race 6: LA LUNA BEACH CLUB RATIINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap1100 metres
 
POETIC CHOICE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
 
MOSSERATI – Began awkwardly losing ground.
 
VON SAGA – Near the 900m, when being restrained commenced to race keenly and as a result was steadied when placed in restricted room by ZA HIDDEN DRAGON which shifted in. Apprentice D McGillivray was advised to exercise more care.
 
AWARD KNIGHT – Approaching the 900m, improved onto heels and shifted out abruptly. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 700m.
 
SUPREME DIVA – Bumped on jumping.
 
Following This event Jockey B Appo took ill and was examined by the ambulance officials. Whilst Jockey Appo had completed his engagements at this meeting, he was stood down from his engagements at this evenings Toowoomba meeting. Jockey Appo was advised he would require a medical clearance before next riding.
 
Race 7: LA LUNA BEACH CLUB RATIINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap1100 metres
 
WARSET – Began awkwardly.
 
WILMOT PASS – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
 
MAHUSSEY – Began awkwardly.
 
WILL HE FOXTROT – Jockey A Fancourt reported that the gelding travelled comfortably during the event however failed to quicken from the 500m when placed under pressure and in her opinion proved disappointing. Jockey Fancourt added that she suggested to connections that the gelding may benefit from the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Stewards questioned Jockey S Cormack in relation to his riding of the mare in the home straight. Of concern to stewards was the vigour that he showed on the horse. Jockey Cormack advised that he was instructed by trainer M Eggleston that the mare only has a short sprint and for that reason to wait as long as possible into the home straight before overly pressuring the mare. Jockey Cormack added that for that reason he did not place the mare under greater pressure until approaching the 200m. Mr Cormack did however advise that from the 200m the mare was unable to quicken and ran on only fairly for the remainder of the event. Trainer M Eggleston confirmed the instructions issued to jockey Cormack and advised that in his opinion the mare not running on in the home straight was attributed to it not backing up from its run at the same venue on a heavy track 7 days prior to today’s event. Stewards in noting the explanation of both parties did inform both Trainer M Eggleston and jockey Cormack that should they issue or receive instructions of a similar nature in future they should notify stewards prior to the event so as to not leave the tactics open to questioning. Stewards did however reserve the right to review the betting on this event and should any abnormalities become apparent the matter may be revisited.
