GENERAL
 
Prior to the commencement of the meeting, stewards, track officials and a delegation of senior riders inspected the 900m and 1200m chute starting points. All parties were satisfied to proceed with races from these starting points for today’s meeting.
 
Trainer L. Gough was fined of $200 pursuant to LR 67(1) for the late rider declaration of EMPEROR TEIO engaged in race 3.
 
Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider declaration of NUDGE BAR (NZ) engaged in race 5.
 
Stewards permitted apprentice S. Tomlinson to claim only 0.5kg of his allowance on CORONEL in race 4.
 
 
Race 1: THE PALMS SUPER SATURDAYS ON SALE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 900 metres
 
LOST MEDIA – Jumped awkwardly. Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Passing the 800m, after making the crossing awkwardly, had to be retrained to avoid the heels of BELLZEN.
 
SONIC LIGHT – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FIERY RING. Inconvenienced leaving the 800m.
 
FIERY RING – Jumped awkwardly. Passing the 800m, had to steady and shift wider to avoid the heels of LADY FALVELON which was checked. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BETTER PAGE – Raced greenly approaching the 800m and shifted inwards, causing inside runners to be tightened for racing room.
 
SHOTGUN DIVA – Jumped awkwardly. Passing the 800m, was tightened for room and taken inwards by BETTER PAGE which shifted in when racing greenly.
 
LADY FALVELON – Severely checked leaving the 800m when having to be restrained to avoid the heels of SHOTGUN DIVA who was carried in by BETTER PAGE which shifted in when racing greenly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: PHOENIX TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 900 metres
 
SPLASHER – Began awkwardly and was then bumped heavily by PHEONIX RIVER. Raced wide. Jockey N Callow reported he was concerned with the horse’s action over the concluding stages and for that reason he did not fully test his mount over the concluding stages. Cast its off-fore plate during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainers’ representative for L. Hatch was advised that the gelding will require results from an ECG and trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
 
PHOENIX RIVER – Began extremely awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SPLASHER. Raced wide.
 
DERBARI – Raced wide.
 
DOLLOP – Raced wide.
 
SALAD DODGER – Approaching the 100m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of BARONESSA which shifted out under pressure. Jockey A. Allen the rider of BARONESSA was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
SAM'S A NATURAL – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
BARONESSA – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DREAM WEAVING – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
 
Race 3: WEST TRANS Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
CAMPEEDO – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1:44pm after the gelding became extremely agitated and was unable to be pre-race sampled. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on CAMPEEDO be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 
 
1st - 8c the win, 6c the place
2nd - 9c the place
3rd - 12c the place
 
Trainer L. Kelly was advised that CAMPEEDO would not be permitted to start in a race until stewards are comfortability satisfied that the gelding’s manners permit it to be subjected to routine sample collection methods.
 
The start was delayed approximately 4 minutes owing to the late withdrawal of CAMPEEDO.
 
BEAU FLYER – Jockey N Callow advised that his mount raced greenly throughout. Became awkward approaching the 1000m and shifted in resulting in inside runners being momentarily tightened for racing room. Approaching the 500m, when racing greenly, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
EMBOLDEN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels leaving the 800m.
 
LYRICAL LOVER – Bumped shortly after the start. Steadied from the heels of BEAU FLYER approaching the 1000m. Inconvenienced and forced wider approaching the 900m.
 
EMPEROR TEIO – Began awkwardly.
 
GOLD SAMURAI – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards.
 
BIG IMPACT – On arrival to the barriers, underwent a pre-race examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

KUBABA – Began awkwardly and was the hampered shortly after. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1000m. Approaching the 900m shifted out after becoming awkward at the heels of BEAU FLYER which shifted in and away from BIG IMPACT.
 
QUEEN OF ADELAIDE – Approaching the 500m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of BEAU FLYER and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 4: GOLD COAST TYRES & AUTO BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
WRITTLE – Jockey R Fradd reported that his mount travelled well throughout, however when put under pressure it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that the gelding may benefit with the addition of blinkers.
 
COSSIE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DARCHINIAN – Slow to begin.
 
IN GREAT NIC – Approaching the 1000m, momentarily steadied from the heels of COSSIE which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice Yvette Lewis was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a), for this incident.
 
KEETA – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey C Bayliss stated that KEETA did not appreciate todays track conditions and also the gelding may have got its tongue back and in his opinion the gelding would benefit with the addition of a tongue tie and blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame bilaterally behind. Trainer Mick Mair was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again.
 
KERMANTIC – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: WASTE TECH OPEN Handicap 1350 metres
 
MAGIC CHARLEE – Began awkwardly, bumping with TRADUCE and became unbalanced. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey N Callow advised that after beginning awkwardly he settled in a rearward position, however his mount commenced to race keenly due to the steady tempo in the early stages and therefore he elected to shift wider and improve forward to the position outside the lead near the 800m.
 
TRADUCE (NZ) – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Approaching the 1200m was momentarily inconvenienced by MAGIC CHARLEE which shifted out when racing keenly. Over raced for a short distance when being restrained to a position with cover leaving the 1200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a soft 7 retrospectively.
 
Race 6: SIMS METAL Class 5 Handicap 1100 metres
 
THE GENERAL (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was then steadied from the heels of AZZAREACH which shifted in on jumping. Over raced for the majority of the event and improved onto heels at the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room approaching the 50m and brushed IRING.
 
HODGSON – Raced keenly in the middle stages and had to be steadied from heels on a number of occasions.
 
AZZAREACH – Shifted in on jumping. Jockey R Fradd reported to stewards that the gelding was first up today and raced keenly when leading and, in his opinion, would be better suited in races over a further distance than that of today’s event. Cast its off-hind plate during the event. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be mildly lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer D. Bougoure was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the AAZAREACH being permitted to race again.
 
IRING – Slow to begin and then bumped shortly afterwards resulting in the gelding losing ground. Brushed momentarily with THE GENERAL approaching the 50m.
 
 
LOGAN'S BLADE – Raced wide.
 
DEFERENCE – Jumped outwards at the start.
 
Race 7: BIN IT NOW BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1700 metres
 
CALL ME LEGEND – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m, put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced.
 
TIOMO – Slow to begin.
 
AVENUE OF STARS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester advised that after beginning well the gelding raced keenly after it assumed the lead. He further added the gelding had won a recent race at the Gold Coast on the 13/08/22 when leading and was of the opinion this racing pattern suited AVENUE OF STARS.
 
LAPHROAIG – Laid in leaving the 500m and was then held up rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of PAINTED BLACK. Approaching the 200m had to be checked from the heels of TIOMO, which shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey J Grisedale, rider of TIOMO, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) and had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of nine days to commence midnight Sunday 11th of September and to conclude midnight Tuesday 20th of September.  Mr Grisedale was advised of his right to internal review.
 
MEATBALL – Shifted in on its own accord and brushed the running rail approaching the 1200m.
 
ZAMOSA (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Laid in approaching and rounding the home turn then continued to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 8: ISUZU GC Class 2 Handicap 1350 metres
 
PIZZO – Began awkwardly. Jockey B Pengelly reported that the gelding travelled well throughout, however when placed under pressure in the home straight did not quicken as well as he anticipated and, in his opinion, may not have appreciated the soft track conditions.
 
COOL ENCOUNTER – Began awkwardly.
 
GOING TO THE SUN – Taken hold of by its rider and eased down in the home straight. Rider C Taylor dismounted shortly after the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards questioned Jockey C. Taylor regarding his riding of the gelding in the home straight. Jockey Taylor advised stewards that the gelding was under pressure from the 700m and shortly after entering the home straight became awkward in its action resulting in him taking hold of the gelding and easing it out of the race due to concerns the horse may have injured itself. Jockey Taylor was advised that this matter remained open to inquiry pending further investigations by stewards.
 
FORGET ROMANCE – Raced wide throughout.
 
AL SAHARA – Jumped awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn
 
PERFECT QUALITY – Approaching the 800m, when over racing improved onto heels and shifted wider.
