Race 1: MAGIC MILLIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres
 
The start was delayed initially when WILD CALM got its leg up in the barrier. After being removed from the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
 
The start was further delayed when ARTS OBJECT proved difficult to load.
 
MR WALLACE – Cast both hind plates in running. Began awkwardly, shifting in bumping another runner.
 
WINDSHADOW – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start.
 
JACKSON ON TIME – From the wide barrier, was restrained to a rearward position on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
CASSIMIR – Tightened for room at the start. Raced five-wide without cover for the majority.
 
BEL AIR – Began awkwardly. Near the 450m, when attempting to secure clear running, became awkward on heels and shifted out abruptly. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SILENTSAR – Began awkwardly, shifting in making heavy contact with another runner.
 
PHAROAH MAGIC – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
SHA OF GOMER – Over raced whilst being restrained in the early stages.
 
SNITCAT – Raced wide without cover during the early and middle stages. Near the 200m, was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
AVEBURY (NZ) – As jockey James McDonald had transportation difficulties, he was replaced as the rider of AVEBURY by jockey Andrew Mallyon. Bumped heavily on jumping and as a result became unbalanced. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey A Mallyon reported that the filly hung out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
WILD CALM – Slow to muster early speed.
 
ARTS OBJECT – Slow to begin. Raced four-wide for the majority.
 
IRON GRACE – Hung out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: AQUIS STALLIONS GOLD NUGGET 1100 metres
 
DESERT SAFARI – Jockey C Schofield reported that the colt raced greenly during the event and when asked to quicken from the 450m, failed to respond to his riding and ran on only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages and laid out under pressure.
 
QUASIMOTO – Jockey K McEvoy was unable to explain the performance of the gelding which drifted noticeably in betting and performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SONNY DAZE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out bumping another runner. Laid out under pressure in the early part of the home straight. 
 
WORX – Slow to begin.
 
LIMERO – Hampered on jumping.
 
 
Race 3: AQUIS STALLIONS GOLD PEARL 1100 metres
 
SHE MINE – Reared over in the tie up stalls and was found to be lame in the off-foreleg. Subsequently, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1:01pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SHE MINE be refunded with the following deductions to apply-
 
1st – 0c the win, 4c the place
2nd – 4c the place
3rd – 2c the place
 
Trainer G Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required for the filly prior to it next racing.
 
The start was delayed when MIXED SPICE became fractious in the barriers. After being removed from the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. A secondary veterinary examination following the event revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
ANGELIQUE – Made the home turn awkwardly.
 
BEDAUB – Began awkwardly.
 
EXCEL D'OR – On returning to scale, jockey B Loy advised that in his opinion the filly was not entirely comfortable on the firm racing surface. Jockey B Loy was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
MISS JOELENE – Slow to muster early speed.
 
SHE'S A ROGUE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. When asked to comment on the below market expectation performance, jockey M Harley advised that in his opinion the filly was not entirely comfortable on the firm racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
TRACY'S SPIRIT – Began awkwardly.
 
TRIFLING – Shifted in shortly after the start and was steadied to avoid heels.
 
Race 4: PIERATA FIRST YEARLINGS OPEN Quality Handicap 900 metres
 
PRINCESS LUNAR – After dislodging jockey T Harrison on entering the track, galloped a considerable distance riderless before colliding with a fence and escaping the track. A short time later entered an adjoining canal and became cast. After some time was freed by turf club officials and immediately underwent a veterinary examination where no significant abnormalities were detected. Subsequently PRINCESS LUNAR was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1:51pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on PRINCESS LUNAR be refunded with the following deductions to apply-
 
1st – 1c the win, 2c the place
2nd – 1c the place
3rd – 2c the place
 
Trainer S Morrisey was advised that the mare would be required to officially barrier trial prior to it next racing.
 
As a consequence of this delay, the field which had arrived at the barriers, were returned to the tie-up stalls and unsaddled. Further the starting time for all events were put back one race, with the final race to be run at 5:43pm.
 
Upon re-entering the enclosure for this event, all runners were examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.
 
Jockey T Harrison was examined by the club doctor following this incident and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
REMLAPS GEM – Raced wide.
 
LE PALMIER – Began awkwardly and was then bumped by another runner. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m.
 
THE BOPPER – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey J McDonald was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using his whip excessively during the event, that being on 15 occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a laceration to its tongue.
 
BELIEBER – Near the 500m, when awkwardly placed at heels, was restrained for some distance and eased.
 
DESERT MAN – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
RENEGADE – Knuckled on jumping.
 
SUPERARE – Began awkwardly.
 
STREAKA – Raced extremely wide without cover for the entire event. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a good 3.
 
Race 5: DUBIOUS FIRST YEARLINGS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap1200 metres QTIS: $110000
 
JEMELDI – Began awkwardly.
 
BILLIONAIR BABY – From the wide barrier, was restrained in the early stages to a rearward position. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
HARD TO SAY – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. On returning to scale, jockey C Schofield reported to stewards that the gelding felt awkward in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer J Deamer was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required for the gelding prior to it next racing.
 
BUSTING – Began awkwardly.
 
CORFE CASTLE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO Fillies & Mares Class 4 Plate 1300 metres
 
COCO ROX – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
VERY INTOXICATING – Approaching the 1200m, momentarily raced in restricted room.
 
AMATHUBA – After beginning only reasonably, was obliged to settle further back in than field than anticipated.
 
CARARTIE – From the wide barrier, was restrained to a rearward position in the early stages.
 
OLENTIA – Began awkwardly. Jockey J Byrne reported that despite beginning awkwardly and losing some ground at the start, he was still able to obtain what he felt was a favourable position in running. Jockey Byrne added that the filly travelled comfortably during the event and ran on reasonably in the home straight, however in his opinion was not entirely comfortable on the firm racing surface.
 
XTRA GEAR – Made contact with the barrier partition on jumping. Jockey M Harley reported that the mare which was racing first up from a spell today weakened over the concluding stages and did not appreciate the firm racing surface. He added that in his opinion the mare would derive a significant fitness benefit from today’s event.
 
PARISIAN LADY - Jockey B Thompson reported that in his opinion the filly was not suited by the firm racing surface.
 
LATAKIA – Laid in during the middle stages.
 
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1300 metres
 
ARENTEE – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
 
LUCKY EXCHANGE – Slow to begin.
 
I AM LETHAL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up an unable to improve from the 500m until the early stages of the home straight. Disappointed for a run near the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
MOBSTAR – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
PRIME ASSET – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
 
PENTITO – Began awkwardly.
 
CHARLIE'S CASE – Near the 1100m, momentarily steadied when placed in restricted room. Near the 1000m, whilst racing fiercely, steadied to avoid the heels of another runner. Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Hung out over the final 400m.
 
RESONATOR – Jockey J McDonald reported that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by the firm racing surface.
 
WEALTHY INVESTOR – Whilst over racing in the middle stages, improved onto heels and was steadied near the 600m.
 
DAYTONA – Raced three-wide with cover throughout. On returning to scale, jockey C Williams reported that the gelding hung out during the event and when returning to scale had its tongue over the bit.
 
WEST OF AFRICA – Bumped on jumping and then tightened for room shortly after the start, losing ground.
 
OAKFIELD TRIUMPH – Trainer K Buchanan was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider notification.
 
DATA PATCH – Held up from rounding the home turn until a point near the 200m.
 
 
Race 8: THE TAB WAVE 1800 metres
 
The start was delayed when TYRESA proved difficult to load. A warning was issued against the filly’s barrier manners.
 
THE CUNNING FOX (NZ) – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey C Williams reported that despite racing wide during the event, he was unable to explain the below market expectation performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer P Payne reported that the gelding would now be spelled following the poor performance.
 
DEFICIT – Held up from the 400m until a point near the 250m.
 
MILITARY GAMBLER – Raced four-wide without cover for the majority.
 
HEAD OF STATE – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
 
BULLOO – Began awkwardly.
 
MISHANI SPARTAN – Raced four-wide with cover throughout.
 
TYRESA – Near the 500m, attempted to shift out to secure clear running, however, was prevented from doing so by another runner and as a result became held up.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.
 
Race 9: TAB BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1425 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed owing to jockey W Pike having to be re-weighed.
 
SIR ROCKET – Apprentice J Lloyd reported that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by the firm racing surface.
 
LORD OLYMPUS – Slow to muster early speed. Momentarily placed in restricted room whilst tiring over the concluding stages.
 
IMPASSE – Slow to begin.
 
INDISPENSABLE – Hung in under pressure in the home straight, proving very difficult to ride out.
 
ROCK AMORE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Momentarily placed in restricted room whilst tiring over the final 200m. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor reported that the gelding failed to travel strongly on the bit at any stage during the event and failed to quicken when placed under pressure. Apprentice Wilson-Taylor added that in his opinion the gelding also was not suited by the firm racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MIRANN – Owing to the earlier delay which resulted in the races being put back one time slot, jockey K McEvoy was unable to fulfil this engagement due to travel requirements and as a result was replaced by jockey T Marshall.
 
BOLD WARRIOR – Raced keenly in the early stages. Stewards questioned trainer G Doughty in relation to the seemingly improved performance. Mr Doughty advised that at Ballina last start the gelding raced four-wide whilst also required to carry 60kg and therefore was not entirely disappointed with the performance on that occasion. Mr Doughty added that further in his opinion racing back at the Gold Coast where it had won on seven prior occasions, was the major contributing factor to the improved performance.
