Race 1: GC RACING INDUSTRY AWARDS AUGUST 21 QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD COLTS & GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE 1015 Metres
BOOM BREAK – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
INSAIN – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the home straight.
KINGZOU – Cast the off-hind plate in running.
MR PLAYTIME – Began awkwardly.
ZOUCHASE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 2: TAB WE'RE ON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1015 Metres
BELLA SPIRITO – Near the 800m, steadied when tightened between CIPHERTEXT and GROOVE JET, which shifted in slightly after initially being taken in by NITE CHILL (Y. Lewis), which shifted in before being corrected. Rider Y. Lewis was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
CIPHERTEXT – Rider K. Matheson reported the filly may be better suited over a longer journey.
GROOVE JET – Raced three wide without cover from the 500m.
NITE CHILL – Began awkwardly. Rider Y. Lewis reported her mount hung in throughout.
SOUL PURSUIT – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
SPIRIT SEEKER – Hampered between runners on jumping. Near the 800m. checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of BELLA SPIRITO, which had steadied after receiving interference.
Race 3: BEAUDESERT CUP ON SALE AUGUST 16 QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1015 Metres
I'M LUCKY TWO – Declared a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.57pm due to the very late arrival following a traffic incident enroute.
BOSS MODE – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages. Steadied shortly after the start.
HOLY HAVOC – Buffeted between runners for several strides shortly after the start.
METALCRAFT – When asked to comment on the performance, rider K. Matheson could offer no excuse the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
READY AND MABEL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to late arrival on course.
MOONSPELL – Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Steadied shortly after the start when tightened by ELRONTE. Cast the off-hind plate in running.
SUSSUSUDIO – Began awkwardly.
WHY SO ANGRY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to late arrival on course. Slow to begin. Near the 1200m, rolled in slightly and became momentarily awkward on the heels of METALCRAFT. Rider L. Tilley reported the gelding resented the kickback.
Race 4: ULTRA LIVING HOMES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
YOSHINO – Change of tactics – to be ridden more forward. Settled just worse than midfield.
PYROIS – Rider L. Tilley reported the gelding may have choked down during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
FAMOUS PEDRILLE – Rider A. Thompson was fined $300 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride and found to be overweight. He was replaced by K. Zechner. Cast the off-hind plate in running.
TOOLATEMATE – Near the 600m, contacted the rail when racing tight to the inside of MERCHANT LADY.
Race 5: GCTC SPRING CARNIVAL PACKAGES ON SALE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300 Metres
BOULEVARD BOY – Passing the 900m, was awkwardly placed to the inside of SANS EGAL and momentarily steadied. NOATABADLARTE, which was following, steadied as a consequence. Raced keenly during the middle stages. Passing the winning post, was tightened between PRIVATE SHOWTIME and SANS EGAL which shifted in and away from CASTELVETRANO.
NOTABADLARTE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Steadied passing the 900m. Raced keenly during the middle stages.
ROTATE – Slow to begin and then tightened by CASTELVETRANO, which shifted in. Approaching the 800m, shifted out from the heels of NOTABADLARTE obliging PHYLISS and SWEET ANTHE to race wider.
BESIEGE – Raced keenly during the early stages. Raced three wide without cover the majority.
SANS EGAL – Began awkwardly.
CASTELVETRANO – Rider K. Matheson was fined $300 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride and found to be overweight. He was replaced by M. Hellyer. Began awkwardly and shifted in.
Race 6: HAPPY 21ST LILY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
THOUGHT OF THAT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced in a significant period of time. Stewards accepted trainer L. Abbott’s explanation for the late declaration of rider. Slow to begin.
BRENTWOOD – Raced three wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
ESTRAPAZ – Began awkwardly. Rider D. Turner could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance, which was having its first start for the stable. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SIZZLING GAL – Slow to begin, then steadied from the heels of LIVING FREE after AWAYGOES THE BUNNY began awkwardly and shifted in.
AWAYGOESTHEBUNNY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly during the early and middle stages. Near the 500m, improved onto the heels of BRENTWOOD, shifted out, bumped BOWRIDER and was checked.
BOWRIDER – Raced keenly during the early stages.
BEAT HOLLOW – Began awkwardly.
Race 7: TAB FASTER VISION BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1800 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when the bridle on THE WELLIAN had to be replaced.
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Tightened shortly after jumping when THE WELLIAN shifted out. Rider A. Allen reported his mount didn’t handle the track conditions and associated kickback. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BOVIDAE – Began awkwardly.
ARCHERS REIGN – Tightened shortly after jumping when THE WELLIAN shifted out.
EL ASTEROID (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a tendon injury to the right fore superficial digital flexor tendon and was treated on course. Trainer J. Bellamy was advised that EL ASTEROID will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
GUARDED OPTIMIST (NZ) – Slow to begin.
THE WELLIAN – Shifted out and caused tightening to runners on the outside.
EASTOWN – Began awkwardly. When questioned, rider Y. Lewis explained that she was instructed to lead on the gelding from the wide gate. She said she was able to do so and cross ARCHERS REIGN and then attempted to restrain EASTOWN prior to the 1200m, however, the gelding was racing very keenly and would not come back when asked. She further added that she was able to settle the gelding passing the 900m, however; when asked for an effort approaching the home turn, did not respond and in her view, was not suited to the distance of the race. Trainer S. Morrisey confirmed the instructions and was notified of the provisions of AR100(1)(a) if there is an intention to change riding tactics from its previous start.
Race 8: AQUIS STALLIONS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
DUNLOE – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Held up for a run from the 500m until the 300m. Held up over concluding stages and hampered. App J. Franklin reported despite being held up on the home turn and over the concluding stages, the gelding was slightly disappointing in its performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
NAGAMIE – Raced keenly during the early stages. Held up for a run from the 500m until the 300m.
GRAND METEOR – Raced wide without cover.
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Shifted out on jumping.
BOROGORU – Rider J. Morris was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race, where possible.
GOLD MERCHANT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced in a significant period of time. Bumped on jumping.
GOING TO THE SUN – Bumped on jumping. When making ground quickly approaching the winning post, checked from the heels of NAILS AND PRIDE, shifted out slightly, hampering DUNLOE, which had been held up.
