Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today's meeting:
Race 4 – SAILOR’S SECRET – K. Matheson +1kg (55.5kg)
Race 4 – LADY SHOTGUN – A. Thompson +1kg (55kg)
Race 7 – CHARLES RENNIE – S. Cummins +1kg (55kg)
 
Race 3 - JEDIAH – Declared a late scratching at 8:08am after sustaining an injury to the near foreleg. Trainer L. Derecourt was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing.
 
Race 5 - MISS UCHITEL – Declared a late scratching at 8:08am. Stewards accepted trainer M. Dunn’s reasons for the late scratching.
 
Race 7 - ODETTE'S ORCHIDS – Declared a late scratching at 8:35am. Stewards accepted trainer D. Graham’s reasons for the late scratching.
 
As Apprentice J. Williams was ill and not riding at today’s meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary. Apprentice Williams was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.

 
RACE 1: THE CYRIL SMALL MAIDEN HANDICAP         1800 M

GREEN CHAI – Bumped on jumping.
 
CAPTAIN INSANO – Shifted in at the start and bumped PREFER TO DANCE.
 
JAMCART (NZ) – Shifted out at the start and bumped PREFER TO DANCE. After racing keenly in the middle stags, shifted out near the 800m and raced wide for the remainder.
 
MUSTANG SNOOKS – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Weakened from the 400m. Jockey G. Walters could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer M. Morrison was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
PREFER TO DANCE (NZ) – Tightened for room at the start and was bumped. Raced wide throughout.
 
SHIRLEY PEARLY – Approaching the 200m, momentarily steadied when tightened for room between OBSTRUCTIONIST and PREFER TO DANCE which shifted in marginally.
 
WEEKEND ARTIST – Approaching the 1500m, taken in by GREEN CHAI which shifted in when not clear. Rounding the home turn, improved onto the heels of the weakening MUSTANG SNOOKS and had to be checked for a number of strides.
 
CAESAR CAKE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey D. Turner reported his mount hung out throughout.
 
COSMIC INSANITY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m.
 
OBSTRUCTIONIST (NZ) – Raced wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment, Jockey Y. Lewis advised that being obliged to race wide without cover throughout was detrimental to the overall performance.
 
SCUTI – Raced wide throughout.
 
BETA BETTER – Approaching the 1500m, steadied from the heels of WEEKEND ARTIST which was taken in by GREEN CHAI (C. Bellamy) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice C. Bellamy was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
 
RACE 2: QJA REMEMBERS OUR FALLEN RIDERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M

CAMPAI – Began awkwardly.
 
RAN NA LADY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped RUSSIAN PINS. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
DON'T BE DRAMATIC – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
DUSAN – Slow to begin. Raced four wide without cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. Apprentice S. Champkin reported her mount over raced throughout the event.
 
JEWELS STATEMENT – Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey M. McGuren pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 16 occasions in totality. Jockey McGuren’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 4th August 2025 and to expire midnight 12th August 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered jockey McGuren’s record in relation to this rule and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
 
LA SOEUR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from near the 250m until the 150m.
 
RUSSIAN PINS – Bumped on jumping.
 
 
RACE 3: JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 M

CHILLED WITH ICE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Leaving the 900m, when the pace of the race eased, improved onto the heels of EGZAKLY and had to be checked. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
JACOB'S WELL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey S. Cummins was reminded of his obligations in relation to using the whip on his mounts when out of contention.
 
MOANA GOLD (NZ) – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
TOTALLY UNDERRATED – Trainer S. McGuren was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Raced wide throughout.
 
VIDEO VIXEN – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 800m, when being restrained, became unbalanced and lost ground.
 
DELLUCY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
HE IS THE KISS – Near the 900m, had to be steadied from the heels of CHILLED WITH ICE. Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until leaving the 300m.
 
OUR JEWEL – Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 250m. Near the 900m, restrained from the heels of KINZOU (C. Waddell) which shifted in when not clear. Jockey C. Wadell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 900m, she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear, tightening the running of OUR JEWEL (N. Tomizawa) which as a result had to be restrained to avoid the heels of KINZOU and lost its rightful running. Jockey Waddell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 9th of August 2025 and to conclude midnight 17th August 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Jockey Waddell’s guilty plea, record in relation to this rule and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
 
YONAKA – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
RACE 4: THE LYLE PLUMB SENIOR OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M

INVER PARK (GB) – Began awkwardly. Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room between LADY SHOTGUN and TOESONTHENOSE (D. Turner) which was racing tight. Jockey D. Turner was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
TYCOONIST – Jockey A. Allen could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding which weakened from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer E. Fouchard was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its poor performance.
 
RISE OF THE MASSES – Jockey C. Bayliss reported the gelding proved disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight.
 
TOESONTHENOSE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
LADY SHOTGUN – Began awkwardly. Near the 1000m, made contact with the running rail when racing in restricted room to the inside of INVER PARK which was taken in by TOESONTHENOSE which was racing tight.
 
TWYFORD – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Hellyer advised the gelding didn’t travel comfortably and was disappointing in its performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrythmia. Trainer J. Hubbard was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive with the results of an ECG before being required to trial/gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards and have a post-gallop auscultation completed by a veterinarian, prior to next racing.
 
TAVIS TOWN (NZ) – Trainer P. Duncan was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
 
 
RACE 5: DAVE BROWN'S CELEBRATION OF LIFE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400 M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Trainer R. Beaton, Starter K. Watson and Stewards reviewed the footage of the start. After viewing the footage, Stewards were satisfied that YES TO EXCESS had been afforded a fair start and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
 
BOWRIDER – Bumped on jumping.
 
TARPS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice C. Bellamy reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – Began awkwardly and was bumped.
 
RINGER'S REWARD – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
YES TO EXCESS – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Beaton was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
 
RACE 6: THE ARTHUR LISTER BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1800 M

PUNJABI LANDING – Began awkwardly. Near the 100m, became unbalanced after contacting the running rail when bumped on the hindquarters by SAXINOUE which was laying in when awkwardly placed when racing tight to the inside of HE’S A COPY BOY.
 
REGAL EDITION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1100m, improved onto heels and had to be checked. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on the off foreleg. Trainer D. Murphy was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing.
 
GUARDED OPTIMIST (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
WANDA'S OUTLAW – Severely hampered on jumping and lost ground.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ADAM – Shifted out at the start and hampered WANDA’S OUTLAW. Jockey A. Thompson reported the mare, which was on a short backup, raced flat in today’s event.
 
SAXINOUE – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping WANDA’S OUTLAW. Raced keenly in the early stages. Blundered passing the crossing near the 1500m. Near the 1000m, made contact with the running rail for a number of strides. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 300m, momentarily steadied when CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM shifted out to improve.
 
FAMILY OF LEAGUE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
Following the running of this race, Jockey A. Thompson was examined by the QAS officials after reporting he had pain in his left foot after making contact with the barriers on jumping. Jockey Thompson was stood down by the QAS officials from his remaining engagements and advised he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
 
 
RACE 7: THE KEITH BALLARD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M

Correct weight was delayed for a significant period of time allowing Stewards to review the photo finish for 3rd and 4th place. After consultation with the judges and reviewing the photo, Stewards were satisfied and declared correct weight on their numbers.
 
MASTER ARTIST – Began awkwardly and a short distance later lost ground.
 
BETTER BE READY – Raced wide throughout.
 
GAYLORD (NZ) – Near the 900m, whilst racing keenly, improved onto heels and shifted out.
 
CAPITAL DIVA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 900m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
MISS WATERLINE – Began awkwardly.
 
CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m and again near the 100m.
 
CHARLES RENNIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MAJESTIC AFFAIR – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Allen advised that when asked for an effort from the 600m, the mare didn’t respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Randall was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its poor performance.

 
RACE 8: THANK YOU GCTC RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 M

ARCHERS REIGN – Trainer J. Sweeney was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Raced wide throughout.
 
AUREATE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CALVARY. Near the 1100m, raced in restricted room when taken in by TENNESSEE WHISKEY.
 
BOROGORU – Near the 1200m, momentarily steadied from the heels of MOONSHINE RUN (C. Whiteley) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey C. Whiteley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Near the 1100m, severely hampered and lost its position when racing to the inside of HURRICANE HARLOW, which was taken in by AUREATE which was in turn taken in by TENNESSEE WHISKEY (D. Turner) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey D. Turner was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1100m when not clear of AUREATE (Y. Lewis), taking that runner in resulting in tightening to HURRICANE HARLOW (R. Jamieson) and BOROGORU (B. Lerena) resulting in both of those runners being severely hampered. In issuing the charge, Stewards acknowledge the racing manners of HURRICANE HARLOW which shifted in and away from AUREATE in the incident. Jockey Turner’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 10th August 2025 and to expire midnight 18th August 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Jockey Turner’s record in relation to this rule, contribution to the incident from HURRICANE HARLOW and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines. Held up approaching the home turn, improved onto heels near the 400m and was steadied. Leaving the 200m, momentarily steadied when HURRICANE HARLOW shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Lerena advised that after receiving interference in the early stages and being held up behind weakening horses rounding the home turn, the gelding didn’t respond to his riding as expected when placed under pressure and was disappointing.
 
CALVARY – Tightened for room at the start and was bumped.

MOONSHINE RUN – Near the 1000m, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. Held up approaching the 400m before shifting out to obtain clear running.
 
BONJOUR RUPERT – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Allen advised his mount didn’t appreciate racing inside runners and when asked for an effort from the 600m, was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MILEY'S MEMORY – Blundered on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the mare is best suited by being able to lead and dictate in her races. He added that when unable to lead from the wide barrier and sit off the lead, that this had a bearing on the overall performance.
 
VETOED – Near the 400m, steadied when tightened for room between MISS SHU and MOONSHINE RUN (C. Whiteley) which shifted out to improve when not fully clear. Jockey C. Whiteley was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
HURRICANE HARLOW – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1100m, raced in restricted room and was severely hampered. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 200m until the 150m.
 
TENNESSEE WHISKEY (NZ) – Shifted in at the start and bumped GOLD MERCHANT.
 
GOLD MERCHANT – Tightened for room at the start and was bumped.
 
FORTY TIMES (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority.
 
ALL VALOUR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the horse leading, Trainer D. Forster advised that her instructions given to Jockey K. Matheson were to be in a forward position, which has been the same instructions given for its previous starts. She added that the gelding has been slow away at its last starts which is the reason for it settling further back. Stewards noted the explanation. Trainer D. Forster advised Stewards that the gelding would now be leaving her stable.
