Clerk of Scales – P. Reardon
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight request:
Race 5. B. Lerena +0.5kg
RACE 1: SAMARA MAIDEN PLATE 1800 Metres
EFFIE’S JOY – Had the tongue tie refitted on arrival at the barriers. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages getting its head up. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Approaching the 200m, steadied from the heels of BAILS (app J. Newman), which shifted in, and TAMIEKA WARRIOR, which shifted out slightly. Apprentice J. Newman was advised to exercise greater care.
NIENNA – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
TAMIEKA WARRIOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 2: PHLAT CRETE OPEN HANDICAP 1720 Metres
INVER PARK – Raced keenly in the early stages.
WARP SPEED – Apprentice B. Youngberry was severely reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for using her whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
SWEET PROPOSAL – Hellyer – Underwent a farrier inspection of its hind plates on arrival at the barriers. Slow into stride then tightened for room when CHAYSE’N’ARTIE shifted in. Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider M. Hellyer reported after being slow into stride, the mare was unable to take up its usual leading position. He said SWEET PROPOSAL raced keen early but settled in the middle stages. He added on straightening, he shifted SWEET PROPOSAL into clear running, however; the mare failed to respond as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a swelling to the inside of the off fore cannon. Stable representative T. Pollard was advised SWEET PROPOSAL will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft (6).
RACE 3: ZAHLIA BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
I AM VOODOO – Blundered on jumping. Passing the 700m, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAGURO and tight to the inside of ZOUTHUR. Passing the 300m, steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of MAGURO, which after rolling out, then shifted in slightly. From this point onwards went to the end of the race without being tested.
MIO SORRENTO – Held up for a run approaching the 200m and passing the 100m, shifted out and went to the end of the race without being tested. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to steady and come back to the outside of ZOUTHUR passing the 200m, rider C. Collis stated he had committed to the run to the inside of ZOUTHUR and to take hold and shift out across its heels, would have required him checking the mare. When asked as to whether he could have ridden the gelding with any vigour passing the 75m when there was clear running, jockey Collis said the gelding had lost all momentum after being held up and it was his belief the race was over at that point. After consideration, rider C. Collis was issued with a charge under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out fully to the finish, when there was clear opportunity to do so. Rider C. Collis pleaded guilty and was fined $300.
PLATINUM LIES – Martyn – Began awkwardly, took an awkward step and shifted out.
BENGAL DIAMOND - Shortly after the start, PLATINUM LIES, which had begun awkwardly, took an awkward step and shifted out, tightening the running of BENGAL DIAMOND, which was then tightened from the outside by MIO SORRENTO, resulting in BENGAL DIAMOND clipping the heels of MIO SORRENTO and blundering.
RACE 4: PHLAT RAIL CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
MAJESTIC BOOM – Approaching the 300m, when racing tight with ARATIRI, rider D. Peisley’s whip became entangled in the whip hand of rider A. Allen (ARATIRI) before he was able to regain the whip from that rider. Evidence was taken from riders D. Peisley (MAJESTIC BOOM) and A. Allen (ARATIRI) relative to their actions after D. Peisley lost the use of his whip and the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
PIERATA’S GEM – Approaching the 300m, steadied when disappointed for a run between MAJESTIC BOOM and ARATIRI, which was taken out slightly by DIRTY DANCING (App B. Youngberry). Apprentice Youngberry was advised to exercise more care. Approaching the 150m, changed course to the outside of DIRTY DANICNG to obtain clear running.
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Reared on jumping.
SUJEED – Slow to begin.

Youngberry reported the gelding is better suited to leading and may have preference to firmer tracks. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
VORKUTA – Shortly after the start, laid in and steadied from the heels of SAPANA’S PEARL. Near the 700m, laid in and contacted the rail, and again approaching the 400m.
