GENERAL
 
As apprentice L. Martyn was ill and rider C. Collis was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Both apprentice Martyn and rider Collis were advised they would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 8 – VOS SAVANT – B. Lerena +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 8 – ARATIRI – J. Lloyd +1kg (55kg)
Race 9 – CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE – B. Lerena +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 9 – HASTEN DELIGHT – D. Turner +0.5kg (54.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: ROYALE, GOLD COAST BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1800M
 
MR O'REILLY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 1600m, steadied to avoid the heels of DEEP DAWN (A. Allen), which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider A. Allen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Rider J. Lloyd reported his saddle shifted near the 1200m placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race and for this reason he didn’t test his mount in the home straight.

DEEP DRIVE – Began awkwardly. Rider K. Zechner reported the mare was disappointing and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Doughty advised the mare would be going for a freshen up.   
 
WEXFORD MISS (IRE) – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages and made the crossing awkwardly leaving the 1600m. Momentarily held up on the entrance to the home straight.


Race 2: QUEENS WHARF TOWER 5, BRISBANE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
 
LA BIANCA – Declared a late withdrawal at 12:51pm on veterinary advice after the filly became fractious whilst being saddled and contacted its head in tie-up stalls. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on LA BIANCA be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st ENFORCEABLE – 3c the win, 3c the place
2nd MISHANI COMRADE – 15c the place
3rd LA PROFECIA – 6c the place

NARUKAMI – Taken in at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider B. Thornton reported the gelding, which was having its first start, wasn’t suited to todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DRAMACEY – Began awkwardly. Near the 300m, steadied and shifted in across the heels of NARUKAMI (B. Thornton), which laid out under pressure. Jockey B. Thornton was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
I AM PIETRA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHOW ME THE DOUGH – Shifted in shortly after the start. Laid in during the early stages. Brushed the rail near the 900m and again leaving the 700m. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

THRASH A BULLY – Near the 900m, contacted the rail and became unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of MISHANI COMRADE.
 
MISHANI COMRADE – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Cast its near-fore plate in running.
 
SUCCESSISMAGIC – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 100m, momentarily lost the use of his near-side rein for several strides. Steadied approaching the winning post when THRASH A BULLY (App J. Newman), shifted in when not clear. Apprentice J. Newman was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
MILDURA LAD – Bumped on jumping.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 3.

Race 3: QUEENS WHARF TOWER 6, BRISBANE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M

BALLISTIC STAR – Became fractious and reared, then sat down in the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination and was a late withdrawal at 1:45pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BALLISTIC STAR be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st EXPRESS DELIVERY – 30c the win, 27c the place
2nd VALOURI – 24c the place
3rd ODE TO BEAUTY– 22c the place
 
Trainer A. Campton was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
EXPRESS DELIVERY – Began awkwardly.
 
LISTING CAPITAL – Slow to begin and shifted in abruptly shortly after the start. Checked leaving the 700m. Rider D. Turner reported his mount didn’t feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
ESCAPE BEACH – Leaving the 700m, checked and clipped the heels of SAN GIMIGNANO.
 
LISTEN JANI – Taken in leaving the 700m.
 
VALOURI – Raced wide throughout.
 
SINFULL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after the filly had some blood in its mouth leaving the mounting enclosure. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
FYANSFORD FLYER – Laid in during the middle stages.
 
SAN GIMIGNANO – Raced keen early. Near the 900m, steadied when racing in restricted room between LISTEN JANI and FYANSFORD FLYER.
 
ODE TO BEAUTY – Leaving the 700m, tightened for room and steadied when racing inside LISTEN JANI, which was taken in by FYANSFORD FLYER (B. Lerena), which was laying in. ESCAPE BEACH and LISTING CAPITAL, which were following, were checked. Stewards acknowledged that rider B. Lerena was making an effort to correct his mount, however; he was told that he needs to make a greater effort in similar circumstances.


Race 4: VICTORIA TOWER, BROADBEACH CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200M

MISHANI RENEGADE – Began awkwardly and then steadied from heels shortly after the start.

TREPORTI – Began awkwardly.
 
COSMIC BEAUTY – Rider A. Allen reported the mare was disappointing over the final 200m.
 
KATDEEL – Slow into stride. Raced wide early and laid out leaving the 900m.
 
NORTH OF ELI – Brushed the rail near the 700m.
 
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.


Race 5: ALBERT TOWER, BROADBEACH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

I AM VOODOO – Raced wide throughout.

ELECTED (IRE) –Near the 800m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of MILESTONE (T. Brooker), which shifted in when not clear. Rider T. Brooker was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
BACK ON DE QUO – Began awkwardly. Rider D. Turner reported the gelding may be better suited to tracks with more give in them.
 
BONNIE AMORE – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Krahnen reported the mare, which was first up, may be better suited to tracks with more give in them. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 

Race 6: DUSK CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M
 
ON THE THRONE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Over raced in the early and middle stages and got its head up for a short distance near the1000m. Rider C. Whiteley reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
DA VINCI GLOW – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped MISS HIGHFALUTIN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled from both nostrils. Stable was advised the filly would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop/trial 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
MY CHARM – Slow to begin.
 
SOME GIRLS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MISS HIGHFALUTIN (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was taken in and bumped by DA VINCI GLOW shortly after the start. Passing the 1300m, steadied to avoid the heels of DA VINCI GLOW (D. Turner), which shifted in when not clear. Rider D. Turner was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Apprentice J. Newman reported the mare sprinted for a short distance on straightening but failed to let down as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
VERONA AFFAIR – Dropped its head as the start was effected and as a result began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early and middle stages.

PEAK MISS – Began awkwardly.
 
SUMMER READY – Raced wide without cover for the majority.


Race 7: OM ENGINEERING CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300M
 
The start of this race was initially delayed when WILL IT SNOW proved difficult to proceed to the barriers and further when CHICAGO KING needed to be checked by the farrier. Trainers’ representative for B. Laming was advised a warning would be placed on WILL IT SNOW for its pre-race manners.
 
NOIRE EMPEROR – Began awkwardly.
 
CHICAGO KING – Bumped on jumping.
 
KING OF MINTO – Bumped on jumping and then shifted in after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
SPECIAL ARTIST – Bumped on jumping.
 
WILL IT SNOW (NZ) – Bumped on jumping and then shortly after was checked from the heels of KING OF MINTO. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ELIZABASS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration to its near-hindleg, consistent with having been galloped on.
 
HOME ZONE – Began awkwardly. Checked from heels near the 1100m. Stewards took initial evidence from apprentice J. Newman and rider K. Zechner and adjourned an inquiry into an incident leaving the 1100m to allow for evidence to be taken from rider A. Thompson.
 
PEE BEE NOIR – Began awkwardly and bumped KING OF MINTO.
 
MISHANI BREEZE – Bumped on jumping.


Race 8: VALE IAN HOLLINDALE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400M

ORIENTE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until the 700m.

INTRUDER – Bumped on multiple occasions with EVERY HEART approaching the 400m.
 
EVERY HEART – Bumped on multiple occasions with INTRUDER approaching the 400m.
 
I STOLE IT – Slow to begin.
 
VOS SAVANT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until the 200m. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn when ARATIRI shifted out.
 
GOING TO THE SUN – Taken wider rounding the home turn.


Race 9: TAB LIVE VISION OPEN HANDICAP 1400M

WINSTON SMURFHILL (NZ) – Late withdrawal at 4:30pm due to the track upgrade to a good 3.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Approaching the 200m, checked when improving into a run between HADOUKEN (J. Newman), which shifted out before being corrected and HULKAMANIA (K. Zechner), which shifted in. Both apprentice J. Newman and rider K. Zechner were advised to exercise greater care.
 
HULKAMANIA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
ALL'S FAIR – Trainer B. Hull was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
